I just want to say… anytime I see younger people, many say Lebron is the GOAT. However, anytime they really dive into Michael Jordan, they ALWAYS end up realizing that Jordan is the best to ever do it. You can still be a Lebron fan while recognizing that Jordan is on a different level. He is the unicorn that nobody will ever catch.
@pistabacsi462

I would disagree. Lebron plays against better all around talent, more sophisticated defense, and more overall athletic ability in the league which again contributes to better defense. Gone are the days of slow players who had to grab you to play any form of defense. Now players have the speed to actually stay in front of you, defenses use the whole team now to lock players down. In Jordans era he beats one white dude on the perimeter and the defense collapses immediately, its not that impressive.

@@NostalgikOne debunked these 90s babies newbie false Casual regurgitated narratives 100s of times. No sweat doing it one more time. 8-14 teams logically means it’s far better than a 30 league team because 30 teams is accepting everyone and their mama while 8-14 is elite of elite exclusive all star studdered league. So that debunks any mention of 8 teams as a knock for casuals that don’t understand it’s a compliment Explains why there was more hofs at onetime and more stacked hof squads in a smaller league. And that higher skilled league of wilts era was ensured by the more difficult rules and circumstances they were forced to be battle tested with and live by such as no backdown punishment allowed whatsoever having skill for every position as most important no matter your size, no wrist carrying allowed whatsoever which we can see MJ and lebron and so many players of their eras do all day long which were walking turnovers in wilts era whose players created the same space without wrist carrying or taking extra steps and even put up more points despite faster pace which is harder to keep up with athletically and skill through fatigue and with harder rims to shoot on and far harder shoes to move around in Plus 2 hand check and zone defenses were both legal and implemented and no flagrant foul at all which MJ experienced specifically to help him out while wilt changed 4 rules to the entire game to try and make it harder for wilt cuz he was too great and threatening the entire sport. So as you can see wilt is In a different universe above MJ as far as what was more impressive and harder to deal with As a guard MJ has never led the league in assists but wilt has as a center. Wilt has also been able to get 11 steals as a center. MJ could not as a guard (only 10) Wilt can guard all time level players 1-5 more effectively than MJ ever could. Wilt is on record being praised by an all time guard Frazier who said (it was like wilt was omnipresent on the court making it difficult for me, everywhere I was, he was there tonight) something MJ was not good enough to force an all time great center to say So saying MJ doing anything AS A GUARD is not impressive whatsoever when the things wilt did AS A CENTER was far and away more impressive if being objective and not biased and it’s all scientifically proven and logic based on the reality of what happened

@@NostalgikOne MJs 1988 season was great but far far from the greatest season ever and an infant in front of many of Wilts seasons. Before we name all the different things wilt has done in several seasons at a time, let’s point out the reality of what’s more impressive and reliable than what when looking at accomplishments Dunk champion is irrelevant for obvious reasons but we can add that cuz MJ needs all the silly stuff to mention that he can get infront of the walking record book of Wilt MVP is an opinion based award subject to bias and inconsistency. Guys like Kobe have less of them than guys like Nash and curry All star game is exhibition and purely for fan entertainment and nothing else. But hey we can use that unreliable award too like dunk champ if you want DPOY created in 1983 and unlike blocks, there’s not even a single trace of the award being thought of or recorded in newspaper articles or game logs before it’s official creation in 1983 meanwhile with blocks you could see it happen live on Tv or in the arena and they were tracked in newspaper articles next game and it’s a real pure action based thing while DPOY is a bunch of opinions biased and inconsistent only dating back to 83 Guys like tony Allen have less of them than guys like Marcus smart kawhi Leonard and Joakim Noah with 0 DPOY at all. Tho great defenders have gotten the award it’s not consistent and falls on opinion where as something like steals leader and blocks leader is concrete Obviously DPOY beginning In 1983 also should not be used in an all time convo if it’s that limited all time wise but hey we can still use that for MJ Steal title awesome something concrete Scoring title awesome something concrete All nba first team suffers same issue as mvp but let’s give MJ that still First team defense suffers same issue as DPOY even worse when you look at how players like Kobe have so many more than tony Allen Bruce Owen bill Russell whom retired the same year it was created etc let’s still give MJ that tho Playoffppg leader awesome something concrete PER leader imaginary analytics made up by made up formulas people throw around that aren’t proven to be necessary in the slightest for accurate arguments instead of sticking with traditional stats and tally counting the intangible actions on the court through observation. Lets use it anyway tho WS same issue as PER and absolutely silly to have PER and WS as two separate things. But let’s use it anyway 131 blocks in a single season. Due to lazy research, people have settled this as a record but Jerry west clearly has him beat when you do true research Let’s give MJ that tho 1st player ever with 200 steals 100 blocks in same season 2 seasons in a row. @thepurintosityking Yes and now imagine him with an open lane and still lightning fast without a big or 2 parked in the lane. Jordan would take on the entire opposing team and the physicality he endured was scary. Every game he played against Detroit, NY or Miami and several other teams I thought this is it. I thought he would be permanently injured and we wouldn’t be able to see this incredible player anymore. But every time he got up and kept going. If you look at today’s game you see players not being allowed to play defense with the lane wide open and after beating someone off the dribble the perimeter wide open. You have new rules that allow gathering the ball which used to be called a travel. All the rules are in place to benefit the scorer and make defending more difficult. Of course for the fans you want to see action and I think that what defenses used to get away with in most of Jordan’s years was dangerous so a balance of the 2 I think would be better. Money talks and people want to see offense so I see a game today I barely recognize compared to the 80s and 90s.
@robinweber9640

@thepurintosityking It's not just being ahead of his time either. We have this warped perception that nba players are moving faster now. They aren't. No one in the current nba is stopping jordan. You think Jrue Holiday is quick enough to guard jordan? Hell no. Not even close
@pistabacsi462
3 жыл бұрын
Jordan had an anal retentive attitude on the court for sure, he had to beat you and that definitely made him a great defensive player. That being said, LeBron has taken players in this era (where you cant just grab people like jordan did), and he has shut down some of the greatest offensive players of all time. In miami when he faced D rose and those bulls, Rose was MVP and he was Unstoppable, everyone claimed it and he truly was special in that season - LeBron smothered him with ease. Go watch those tapes instead of ignoring them. LeBron carries teams with scoring, passing, point guard duties AND he is able to defend the best player on the court positions 1-4 and sometimes 5's. Jordan was great, sure nobody is taking that away from him - however the same hand checking that he had to compete with on offense, he could use on defense which makes defense MUCH easier. Again something people completely dismiss, when you can grab players defense becomes easier, steals are easier, predicting passes are easier, moving players the way you want them to move is easier. Imagine LeBron putting his hands on players TODAY (not back in the 90's when the league average bench press was 135 lbs), Lebron would carry players off the court with ease today. Lebron had to become a defender without hand checking - and he STILL excelled in an era where there has been an offensive explosion. And please dont come back and say lebron wouldnt be able to handle the 90's...if Jordan who was a buck 90 could then Lebron who is 240-245 would have had absolutely NO issues both on offense and ESPECIALLY on defense.
@gabeg2434
3 жыл бұрын
@@pistabacsi462 ok so I looked at the videos and Lebron hardly ever guarded Rose one on one. In fact, even when Lebron came to double Rose did well against the double team. Jordan weighed about 215-220 during his championship years and he never left Chicago to join a super team to win a championship. Jordan in fact would have no problem offensively vs Lebron as most experts have agreed. On defense, Jordan was as strong as a big as many bigs including Oakley, Horry and Grant have attested to. Even with the argument that Lebron had to become a defender without hand checking, imagine Jordan’s output if there was no hand checking. The only thing that makes sense in your argument was that Jordan was anal retentive. Yes he was sickly anal retentive and he would have used that fact and his determination and will to completely dominate this era just as he dominated the 80s and 90s. These are just facts that you can look up and remember Jordan never said he was the greatest but pretty much everybody else did. We all know what Lebron said and we know that only younger people like his contemporaries may agree with this self aggrandizement.

There have been lots of great defensive guards like Payton, Paul, Kidd, Stockton, etc. We usually judge them based on steals, but MJ was able to guard and block dominant bigs like Dominique, Ewing, and Hakeem. That second three-peat Bulls squad (especially before Pippen's back issues) was scary. Jordan was the best defensive guard in the league, Pippen was the best defensive wing in the league, and Rodman was the best defensive big. The triangle offense was tough to stop, but they were one of the best defensive squads ever. LeBron: 5× NBA All-Defensive First Team (2009-2013), 0x Defensive Player of the Year Jordan: 9× NBA All-Defensive First Team (1988-1993, 1996-1998) 1x Defensive Player of the Year LeBron is an elite defender when he wants to be, but one of the reasons he's been able to play for so long at such a high level is that he takes possessions off to recover. Michael didn't know how to do that. He played all-out. The argument for LeBron is basically that he's had the greatest career, because he's been consistently great for so long (although if that's the argument, I'm taking Kareem). I don't know how you can argue that LeBron is the better player.

I understand what you're saying. We've become a "I want everything RIGHT NOW" society. But On-The-Court basketball wasn't meant to be played like a video game. That's exactly what it's become. Everything is pretty much offense, offense, offense. Like you said... just pull up & take a three, run down the court, pull up & take a three, run down the court, pass a few times, pull up & take a three... rinse and repeat. Individual shots have been rendered completely meaningless. Like a marbles in a jar. It's pretty much whichever team jacks up the most 3s wins the game. To me, it feels like I'm sitting, watching someone else play a video game. For my eyes it's just too monotonous. I can leave the tv, go to the bathroom, come back and haven't missed anything of importance. I could miss the whole regular season, no problem. I just sit down and watch the screen with yet another person with the video controllers. For me, that's one of the main reasons I just can't sit down and watch for any extended periods. The last time I was really into NBA basketball was the years when Lebron & the Heat were playing Duncan & the Spurs in the Finals. Well those are my thoughts.

Also remember, he averaged 30+ without shooting 3's in a much more contact NBA. No contest in this now more of a stat chasing game. LeBron would've played against some of the great power forwards in the game, not small forwards. The likes of the next defensive genius of the game, like "the Worm", Dennis Rodman.

Right! When you realize how great of a defensive player Jordan was, it makes it all the more impressive that Iverson crossed them over. And even when you look at the clip, Jordan actually recovered pretty well and had a hand in his face when he shot the shot

The late 80s and early 90s were my favorite era because it was very well balanced in terms of scoring and defense. Late 90s became much focused on defense causing many players having lower fg% And slow offense pacing. Now the recent years is the opposite, the players rarely play down the clock shoot much from outside and defend less close, avoiding being crossed but letting too much space for the opponent to move or to shoot.

The sad thing is, these young guys will never truly know how great MJ really is/was. You can watch highlights all you want. You need to watch the games, know what was on the line at that time. know the situation when a play was made. It's like watching a Barry Sander 30yrd run for a touchdown highlight. Great moves and great run. But did you realize that that run was a 4th down play with the Lions trailing in the 3rd?
@grimmettcleaningservices7003
3 жыл бұрын
Exactly! I think that's the reason why they set up these Jordan videos to show sequences. This young dude on this channel didn't just see pure highlights, he got to see actual sequences in games. He got to see Jordan score an important situation, like being down and trying to come back, or with a slim lead and trying to ice the game, and that's when Jordan made a fair amount of these plays. They were unbelievable, I opened it plays made during crucial moments and games. Us older guys got to see Jordan play, so unfortunately almost any player afterwards is going to pale in comparison. It's just like with Tom brady, I never thought in a million years I would witness a quarterback make 10 super bowls and win 7! As this younger generation gets older, they're going to understand what we're coming from with Jordan when the younger generation at that time insist on comparing the current due to Tom brady. They're going to laugh their butts off, and tell lots of stories about witnessing Tom'ss greatness.

@@uppercutshurt5199 You're not wrong, but to be honest most all time greats aren't great talent evaluators. It's usually the bench warmers or role players that are good at talent evaluation and are probably better teachers.
