The weekend of Sept 20-22, 2024 was a special one... the LEGO Store's move to Esplanade Aventura from the neighboring Aventura Mall (north Miami, FL) was complete and the store was finally able to hold Opening weekend festivities. The LEGO Group had a mural build for the weekend and the all-hands-on-deck effort involved completing 3072 6x6 plates full of colorful brick.
Better yet, members of the Greater Florida LEGO Users Group (GFLUG) got an opportunity to display and showcase our My Own Creations (MOCs) as well. For me, it was my first public display in Miami-Dade County of my Midtown Miami skyscrapers, Freedom Tower, and Brightline train. Luis (who some of you might recognize from LEGO Masters) brought his beautiful battle scene inspired by D&D, Steph L and Matt M put together a city with an awesome Publix, Matt also had a stunning painting of Santorini, Jay Gates brought his city, and David and Alex Glenn came down from Largo with a Wild West scene.
This video shows a walking tour of the expanded store. Great enlarged floor space, but as you would expect, a smaller pick-a-brick wall. Oh well. But the hit is not that bad as most stores already had bins taken away to sell baseplates and dispense boxes. The inventory was amazing, though, and since the merchandise was locked away for so long, there were sets that were temporarily out of stock elsewhere.
Kudos to LEGO's team for inviting us and the very hospitable store crew, which not only spanned Aventura but included other stores in the area. It was a "Family Event" of sorts since some of the staff was already familiar. Congratulations to the store's team on the opening and hope this one enjoys many successes in the future!
