I am biased for the Studio sounding great but that Standard absolutely sings. Regardless, there’s something about a Les Paul into a Marshall that just ticks every box.

I had a 1992 Studio that had a maple neck with an ebony board, I now have have six high end Gibson LP's, I wish I had that studio back, that guitar had a 59 round neck profile, fricken rocked.

Damn! It’s always the ones you let go, but, can’t argue with six high end Gibson’s!

I had both but sold the Standard and kept the Studio. It's a mid 90's and has a back cutaway a little like a Strat - never seen one like that before. I also routed it's body edges off to stop it cutting into my side.

Oh really? I can’t say I’ve ever seen an LP with a belly cut! I bet it’s comfortable to play though?!

@@dougiearcher Likewise. People don't believe it. Serial number dates it to 1995 I think. Will check again sometime soon.

I have the same year Studio, also white with ebony board. These are also chambered, so they’re really light compared to most Studios and Standards. Mine is under 8 lbs. these also have a 59 neck while most new Studios have the slimmer 60s neck. These white also ones tend to have lots of finish cracks.

I had a LP studio just like that one except the volume and tone knobs where different. Unfortunately I could not connect with it. It looked good like that but felt cheaply made to me for some strange reason. I got rid of it after a while. Shortly after, I bought another LP studio that is black with a FR which I still have today. I feel fortunate to have seen it and bought it at the time as I always wanted an LP with a FR. Thanks for the video. 😃

Damn a LP with a FR! Very nice. Glad you’ve managed to connect with a Studio! Witchhat knobs make all the difference.

I actually prefer the sound of the studio pickups, but I like the look of the standard

I completely get that! Would be interesting to do a pickup swap and see how it affects the sound of each guitar.

Standard is more expensive. Has neck and body binding. Studio has no binding and fiddly coil taps. The new studio model has binding on the neck. I don’t care for binding but coil taps kinda suck.
@dougiearcher

I did see the specs of the new coil taps - after watching a couple of videos there seems an audible loss of treble…? Strange feature. Agree with yourself though, I’ve never been a user nor fan of guitars with coil tap. (So far, never say never).

I had a studio from the early 90s and it was horrible. Ridiculously heavy , wouldn’t stay in tune and didn’t sound good at all. I now only have customs and one standard that sound amazing. I use string butler on all Gibsons to fix the break angle at the nut

The pickups are the biggest difference. The standard just has plastic binding added, which I dislike the feel of. Studio for 1k less all day long
