I built a hi pot tester with a small neon transformer, variac, and i used a voltage trippler circuit. I used diodes that are for microwave oven power supply. Mine goes 0 to 10 kv. Not much current is needed, in fact you want to limit the current to no more than 1 ma. I use a 100 ua meter in series to detect current if there is a dieelectric breakdown.

Bbi, I saw a guy had built a very nice hipot tester using a laser power supply. 150 bucks from china, and a few extra meters allowed it to measure leakage current too. Google should find it. It's the route I will probably go. Stay safe. 73.

I spent years repairing those old tube TV ,and today I am still afraid of HV, as a ham I mostly stick to the Transister Amp, my station is max at 200 watts, well I try to keep it at that

But I don't like to think about that much it can mess you up if it doesn't terminate you that's seriously scary if you think about it

Nice. When high voltage parts fail in our big transmitters and start arcing things go bad quick often faster than the controller can say no no and shut down the HV. I guessed when I saw this on Patreon that yeah he's gonna hv components with it. I wish I still had mine like that and the tubes I had with it. Real neon is getting hard to find. If I find more I don't think I will hook them up with telephone cord this time.

The Transformer in the High Pot test in the cage you are talked about was 4x5 meters and the metal fence was 2.5-3 meters high inside the transformer was 1,8 meter high ! In feets 6 feet high with a very large insulater on top Everything was in that cage The dut , Cable we testing , everything The door must be closed and a switch starting a timer that switching on the transformer Hughe Giant warning Lights indicating DANGER HIGH VOLTAGE The door to go inside , also short the High voltage And a Sirene Horn go off and warning lights ! Evrything for safety, max voltage 30 KV! , the stick was about 1,5 meter 5-6 Feet ! With hook to shortout the high voltage after test , the load in a spool coaxial cable is Very Very much Deadly !! Please Consider whatever you do Never touch the transformer there could be a residual capacitor! Caused by wiring 1 cm twisted wire is 1 PF Its is your life , you have one ! No more

random question. i have 1000.. but how do these guys run these huge amps in their car? in one of your videos you said you have a 1000 amp power supply. what does the average car do in amps? anyway love these videos

Excuse me Mr. BBI but, at 7:33 didn't you want to say 1.4143? That's the Square-Root of 2. It's how we calculate the DC voltage of a rectified and filtered power supply by multiplying the AC input voltage to the rectifier by the Square-root of 2. Of course that doesn't include the voltage drop of the rectifier diodes. It's not 1.145

If there is still a vacuum in that thang, you may want to see if there is a considerable amount of X rays coming off it, because it's generating some.
