In one of Paw Paws earlier videos, he explained that thistle is invasive. You have to dig them. Immediately place in a bag. You want to get them before the flower. They produce seeds like crazy. Those are definitely something you don’t want.

You’ve got a medicinal garden there. That thistle may be the most medicinal plant there. Those fields with the wildflowers are absolutely beautiful. Reminds me of my childhood. There was a power line field 3 or 4 miles back in the woods behind my grandparents’ place full of all different kinds of wildflowers. We called it The Field of Dreams. I loved to run through it with my hands out over the flowers 🌺💐🌸. It was so magical. Thanks for that reminder, Jami.

Yup and make sure you DON'T LET THE FLOWERS GET TO WHERE THEY ARE GETTING READY TO RELEASE THE SEEDS!!! Then when you get it out of the ground you end up with the seeds going everywhere You gotta make sure that it all goes into a bucket or bag and get rid of them now would probably be a goodtime to get them out while the flowers aren't ready to drop seeds ❤❤❤

It’s not weird to want to pack up your horses and go on a field trip. I am not a horse person, but a lifetime friend was! Her family would pack up the family, with friends in toe and go camping!! 8 horses would go with us!! We out set up camp and explore the National Forest and the State park on horse pack. In the evening we sit around the camp fire like an old west cowboy movie!! And we would sleep in a tent and listen to the munching on grass!! We explorer some amazing place on the hills on horse back!!! The good ol’ days!!

Born and raised in Texas and I grew up with all those wildflowers. The little pink buttercups were my grandma's favorite ones. When you sniff them, you get yellow buttery powder on your nose. Brings back sweet memories of my childhood with my grandma living next door in Humble. Not too far from Plum Grove. Anyway, you inspired me now so I'm headed to some country backroads to find my own fields of wildflowers. 🌼🌸🌺🌻🌷

Lady Bird Johnson, wife of President Johnson, headed an effort to plant wildflowers along the highways in Texas in 1965. She helped establish the Wildflower Research Center in Austin, TX and it was named after her in 1997. You may have benefited by having some of the wildflower seeds spread into your field. A couple years ago, I drove through your area of Texas in April and was amazed at the vast amount of beautiful flowers all long the freeway. Cars and cars of people were pulled over taking pictures. I drove across the entire country and only saw those wildflowers in Texas.

To get the skunk smell out. Don’t get the dog wet first. Cover them with blue dawn dish soap and baking soda add peroxide and make it a paste. Let sit as long as possible then rinse with water. The skunks spray is an oil so if you use water first creates a barrier and then any soap can’t do the job and clean them.

Hi Jamie! The book you are looking for is called Newcomb’s Wildflower Guide. It is my favorite by FAR! It teaches you how to identify flowers instead of just giving an answer. The identification key is easy to use, and I have learned so much from that guide! Also important to remember, “weeds” are just plants that humans have forgotten how to use. Sooo many “weeds” have medicinal uses.

U might want to hurry and get those thistles out before those flowers drop their seeds or your hay field is going to be over ran with thistle. I’d love to see the horses out there grazing for the day. What about the people that take their horses to shows or out riding? Do they stay at the show for multiple days or the people riding only ride from their house? I’m not a horse person so I don’t know but I would think they take their horses for just day trips. Such a wonderful day on the J&L! As per PawPaw and several other Pros I have spoken with unless you remove the thistle root you accomplish nothing. They make a tool that claims to help pull the invasive plant from the ground but the main root is long, tough and grows straight down - I have doubts re that issue. I was told Home Depot, Lowe's, Tractor Supply were good options for the tool. Heavy lawn bags are necessary to quickly stuff the plant inside, the flowery section seeds can blow away and quickly start new plants. I wouldn't bother with plastic lawn bags, I purchased the thick brown paper lawn bags. The prickly bits will rips and snags the plastic, then seeds escape and the cycle repeats. When I attempted to purchase the tool they were sold-out so I purchased a narrow shovel. It was effective but not easy. I thought about weed killer but at that time I had pets and didn't want to take that risk. Boiling water helped but the long root survived so it quickly returned. The best results occur with smaller plants, before they flower but they can be eradicated. That might be a job for Ben. He's focused.
