I too go for the cheaper option. I actually make my own foam core inserts. Buying a pack of foam core sheets with some hot glue and boom! You do have to make the extra effort. But it’s really satisfying to make it your own. Folded Space are great, you don’t have to worry about cutting it and measuring all to fit in the box. The average cost for Folded Space here in Oz is around $25-35Aud. But If I buy a pack of Foam core sheets $19. I could make inserts for 5 big games and or more for some smaller games.

Living in a 3rd world country, accesories are a luxurie I rarelly can afford, so I made my own inserts with foamboard and some glue. Sometimes I take the ideas from BGG, but sometimes I made them from scratch. I Rarelly keep the original insert (if there is one) because they usually are clunky or non functional (you can not take it and put it in the table and you have to have some tray or bowls or something to put the meeples or coins).

I'm a huge fan of Folded Space as well. I have a bunch of their inserts and what I like most about them is that I can get the expansions into the main box to save space on my shelf. I haven't spent much on blinging out my games because I find them to be pretty expensive and would rather buy another game with that money, HOWEVER, in Spiel I did splurge a bit and bought the metal minis for Bad Bones. Completely unnecessary, but I was swept up in the excitement of the con and couldn't hold myself back. For accessories I've picked up a couple of leather/felt dice trays that also snap together in the corners and I love that they lay flat so they're super easy to store and then some smaller Game Trayz to hold components on the table. Some of them I just put directly in the boxes if they fit so that set up is that much easier next time. I have some smaller wooden bowls from years ago (I have no idea where I bought them) and they're so nice on the table, but of course, being wood, they don't store as easily as the stackable Game Trayz. With Spiel I got really lucky and did most of my shopping on the Thursday and ended up with a bunch of games that did end up selling out. While apparently half the crowds as usual, it still felt very busy to me, but it was my first time ever going and I'm sure next year I'll be surprised at the crowds. Also it was great to be able to find tables often enough to try out games. There were some I was really excited for that ended up being just okay and a couple that I thought would be just okay that ended up being great. Oh and one massive bomb, but that could have been the teach we had. It didn't seem like there was much game there, but we're not sure if we played properly.

One of my favorite accessories is a lazy susan. We use it for games where the orientation of the game board matters. We got tired of two people being at a disadvantage the whole game by looking at everything upside down. I made a few thin boards in various sizes to accommodate all the different needs.

I typically don't buy inserts, as I usually organize with plastic storage organizers of various sizes. The other thing about inserts is that there usually isn't much room for expansions, promos, or sleeved cards, so I like the flexibility of being able to reorganize for those or if I later get component upgrades. As for accessories, a dice tray, a dice tower, and plastic bowls are pretty typical. But probably my favorite thing to use are small cloth bags, which I use for games that require small tiles or chits to be 'shuffled', like those of Castles of Burgundy or Maracaibo. It's much easier stirring around within a bag and drawing a random tile, than trying to hold a stack of tiles in your hand and manually shuffling. Great video by the way!

for some of my favourite games, I have old jewelry boxes in them with the components inside, especially if it fits the theme - makes the games feel so special :) and for on the table components we just have two decorative wooden bowls I got travelling, a long one and a small round one and they work for almost every game. some of my smaller games I’ve been storing two games in one box if they have huge boxes just because we don’t have much room and I find it’s working great (Carcassonne Hunters and Gatherers share with Carcassonne Over Hill and Dale, Shifting Stones shares with Marrakech, Draftosaurus lets Sushi Roll in) probably a faux pas but it works for us! :)

Absolutely love the Folded Space inserts. After getting the one for DEAD OF WINTER (which I'd picked up second hand without any insert), I've now worked through pretty much all they do for games I own. When I get a game, checking if they have an insert for it is one of the first things I'll do. And I find putting them together so relaxing.

I made it a point this pandemic to support local restaurants, and so I order take out/deliveries A LOT. Along with them came plastic containers for soups, gravy, etc (my country isn't environmental-friendly, hence the plastic). I clean them and use them as my organizers for games! So I don't buy inserts, never been that big of a fan. Thanks for this!

We Australians are infectiously likeable. Get what I did there... I adore the Too Many Bones dice tray. They are leather and are designed to absorb the “bounce” from dice hitting the base. They are great. Folded Inserts as a brand is great. Glue is needed. I use plastic glues as normal ones seem not as reliable.

I do have a Folded space insert for King of Tokyo that works awesome with all the expansions, 13 monsters in total, all in the original box! And one I created my own customized insert for Flip over Frog, made with green cardboard and matching felt. For most games that don't have insert and have teams of colorful needles I like to use that kind of transparent textile little bags that you normally use for jewelry, the kind that have a double ribbon at the top...too bad you can't add pictures to KZitem comments :)

I am also a fan of the Folded Space inserts. Folded Space is based out of Bulgaria. A couple of my first Folded Space inserts were for Imperial Settlers and Great Western Trail. (The cardboard insert that came with GWT was torn when I opened GWT for the first time, so getting a Folded Space insert for that game was a no-brainer.) I have purchased other Folded Space inserts for games like Roll Player and the larger boxes of Lord of the Rings LCG and Star Wars: The Card Game LCG. I especially like that Folded Space makes their inserts to fit sleeved cards. I’ve also printed inserts on 3D printers that are available at our public library. I’ve printed full inserts for games like Arkham Horror LCG and Game of Thrones LCG. They make organization so much better!

Le Havre yay! I’d watch any sort from you, but yeah I’m into the long game. Folded Space is Bulgarian IIRC. And I’m very into foamcore inserts. I used to build my own, and often design them myself. (also, black makes it look a bit better than grey, I think) Now I usually just go for baggies and some little plastic cups/boxes. I can’t remember the name of the company off-hand, but think of the ones that come with Alchemists for the money and result tokens. I just got a bunch of those and use the boxes and baggies in the game box. Baggies are for a player’s setup, and boxes are for resources that will be accessed throughout the game.

Thanks Monique and Naveen for another very enjoyable and informative video as always! I'm also a fan of Folded Space inserts, but I had to LOL a little about Naveen's comment that you haven't run into any issues when storing board games vertically. I actually was about to post a caution here about that even before hearing that! The first Folding Space insert that I constructed was for Lords of Waterdeep with the Scoundrels expansion. I was raving a little to my family after having constructed it about what an improvement it was over the out-of-the-box insert. But when I opened the box up to show them, I was greeted with a huge mess of mixed up components. You should have heard the laughing! This is not by any means meant as a criticism of Folded Space inserts per se, but rather just a caution that certain inserts for certain games might not lend themselves to being stored vertically. That or you must take care to cover any open dead space areas above insert compartments for small loose components. I wound up using a thin. compressable piece of foam rubber for the LoW box

I recentely started to 3D print my own organizers and inserts. I desperately needed one for our Eldritch Horror collection. We had a wooden one, but it was falling apart and it was really hard to get to. So I found a couple of models online, designed the rest and printed. They are light, removable separately from the box and most importantly, I could organize it the way I wanted.

Thanks for the vid! In terms of internal game storage, I have a couple packages of ten circular/rectangular containers from Dollar Tree, a few Folded Space and Broken Token (long ago) organizers for games I have multiple expansions, a bulk of small ziplock bags, and card sleeves for games with cards that may be handled and/or shuffled a lot. Likewise, I'm not much of a dice tower person; more into dice trays (mostly foldable Die Hard Dice brand) and dice cups (mostly Easy Roller brand). Mountain Goats is a growing family favorite! Other BoardGameTables small box games Sequoia and (upcoming) Dandelions look to be great dice fillers as well. :)

Kabuto Sumo was my best purchase at Origins! Early on I got some of the rules wrong which led to a tug of war stalemate a little more often but it’s turned into such an easy one to pull out and has been popular every time I brought it out, whether with my wife, siblings, or game night. Definitely treat it as a casual game because it is just more fun if people aren’t playing too defensively. Despite that there’s some cool depth managing your ammunition and using some of the abilities, especially stacking. Setup and helping people figure out how to push the disc into the platform is my only real complaint, and both of those get easier with more plays. I like the wooden inserts but I’m very selective about the games I use them for. I enjoy the wood crafting so that’s also a plus. That said I’m not sure about what the future looks like for the brand I normally used, so hopefully they clean up their act or else I can find another brand to fill that void. Not a fan of foam core and I feel like it takes up more space in the box than wood. Just built a wooden dice tower, I’m looking forward to pulling it out next time my brother brings over zombicide! I am very bad about bouncing dice off tables and trays so I think I’d rather have the tower do it for me.

I have a folded space insert for Lost Ruins of Arnak which I can't recommend enough. Sure, it doesn't look as thematic as some of the wooden/3D printed ones you can get online but it was easily the most affordable. I've gotten the game to the table far more than I would have done without the insert just because it makes set up much quicker which is the biggest barrier for me due to limited time available to play games. Another accessory I keep plenty of is dice, but used to track enemy health in games like Marvel United. Again, helps with set up time as it's quicker to give each of the spawning enemies a die than manage multiple health tokens.

I have Bites on order - can hardly wait. My wife and I have the 2-player and 4-player games in one cabinet (by player count, then alphabetical by title, vertically). Then most of our other lighter games in another cabinet, by max player count, then alphabetical, vertical. The heavier games are in another cabinet, sorted by type (18xx, wargames, Euros). The heavy Euros are not in any specific order, alas. But they will be soon, as we buy a Kallax for our anniversary present to ourselves.

Great video - thank you! This question is for anyone, but is there a reason why so many people store their games vertically in the Ikea Kallax? It doesn’t seem to hold more games but it does mess up the components and all of the boxes tip when you take one box out to play. My collection has grown a lot in the last year and I’m just figuring out how to best store everything. Thanks for any input!

Because stacking games puts lots of weight(pressure) on the bottom boxes is one main reason. It doesn't mess up the components for many of my games to be honest

I enjoy Kabuto Sumo but agree with you about the anti-climatix nature of it. Perhaps if the chits wern't all round it'd play better. out of 6 games we've only pushed an opponent off once (and that was an own goal!) the rest one of us has just run out of peices. Has Naveen trued Hibachi? (Reprint of Safranito) It's dexterity but I feel like you have a lot more control. Low set up time as well.
