Hey guys! This is a basics video so I released it on Friday instead of my usual Monday video. I hope you guys enjoy learning what a CSG mesh is. Thanks,

Very usefull. I am trying to get my head around 3D. 2D is a bit easier. Useful to export to blender.

It is! That's the best part of csg meshes!

I'm trying to make a space game but I need to be able to have "far away" objects like a star, planet and the like. I found some one did it using view ports but I can't understand how, I'm missing some thing. They have the project and it works great but they don't have any info on how. Also I didn't know that the csg messes was so power full great tutorial.

Hey thanks for watching! I wonder if they used billboard meshes which is images that rotate to follow the camera. It makes it look like there is a 3d object out there but its actually an image. Im glad you found it helpful if you have any suggestions for future content let me know!

There is a video on yt called godot night scene shader, procedural moon and stars, its basically a shader that does that, might be exactly what you need

I would like to see a tutorial one day on how to make a fully functional TV (3D mesh ) in a game . ( ability to run videos on tv screen, changing channel etc)

That would be a fun one I can definitely look at that

I've heard 'for prototyping' a few times - is it bad for general use, or just ugly? Is it a suitable basis to place asset pack architecture against - with /without collision on the asset? Thanks, just getting my head around using a3d pack soon

Wow I replied to he wrong comment... CSG meshes are great for prototyping if you're going to use them for actual level assets I wouldn't use them for anything super detailed because the Boolean system is less efficient than actually modeling the object.. You can definitely use them for collision though but again it may be better to just model the object

Appologies - I suppose im looking for something that starts like your 'Exporting Assets from Unreal' video, and the workflow to prototype then fill a scene with existing assets. I know, real basic stuff 😕 just using the wrong key words I think. Any videos that come to mind?

Hey, can you pls make a tutorial for, 2d collision check? I am converting a project from Unity to Godot and finding obstacles, like updating velocity for kinemetic body and collision detection. Thanks in advance.

Would you recommend to use csg meshes for destructible grounds?
@FinePointCGI

You could but Id suggest using actual mesh unless your going to at runtime break up the mesh. Usually in my exp that is predone in a program like Blender and just "simulated" in the engine, but if you are just doing it at runtime and slicing the mesh a csg mesh will work.

I know this sounds like a dumb question, how how do you zoom in to a place in your scene that is not the center? Shift scrolling does not work in Godot

You need to click your middle mouse button down and move and it'll pan around or you can click the right mouse button and use wasd to fly around. I'm not sure if its what your looking for

That channel is by far underrated. There is indeed some quality content. I am glad to subscribed to it a while ago already. 👍 (I usually only upvote videos and don't comment them to show that I like them … unless I want to do something "for the Algorithm" 😉)

@@FinePointCGI Thanks for offering. … hmmm … 🤔 … generally I am into 3D in Godot. So, this video about CSG meshes was pretty good already, very interesting, especially because I never used them before (I normally either use `MeshInstance` with the built-in cube meshes to try something out or I am having my own models made in Blender that I import to Godot). Not sure if there's anything else I really need to know. Speaking of Blender-to-Godot-workflow, I found it quite irritating for some (way too long) time that the Z-direction in Godot is different from the Y-direction in Blender. I mean, I don't care about the swap of the axis names, I can deal with that. What I had trouble with is: In Blender you normally have an object's front in the negative Y. In Godot the "front" is the negative Z. But the negative Z-axis in Godot is the opposite direction of what the negative Y is in Blender. That being said, someone gets pretty fast into trouble when dealing with `look_at()` when using `Spatial` nodes in 3D scenes. Maybe a short video that clarifies that confusion about not only the name swapping (Blender Y=Godot Z, that's easy), but especially about the swapped direction could help some people (though the most are more into 2D where it's not a problem at all). -Blender Y = +Godot Z, but "front" is -Blender Y and "front" is -Godot Z, that's confusing and leads to issues in understanding of how spatial nodes work in Godot which is essential to know when working with methods like `look_at()`. I am not sure if your audience is generally interested in that, but I rarely find videos on that topic. (Maybe it's explained in one or another "basic tutorial", but I don't think I need that basic tutorials any more 😅. That's why I may have missed that one in the early months of using Godot. 😆) Other than that…? I don't know. Maybe some advanced topics like how to use threads in Godot and how to build UIs that use threads to calculate stuff (e.g. a PCG script for generating maps relying on an `OpenSimplexNoise` or generally calculating stuff which results in objects being placed into a scene or being changed somehow … things that may block the UI). Just an idea. 🙂
