I've never spent a dime on this game, but i've been playing since pretty early on (mid 2014 i think) and so i accumulated enough event premiums, the occasional golden wager and, especially after the market came out, premium plane tickets to sell there that the grind wasn't so bad, especially later on. Honestly i didn't care about jets at all for most of the time playing the game, to the point where after getting my first one and not really liking it (i think it was the mig9 in like late 2015/16?) i just started hopping around trees when i got to tier 4. I only really started playing jets in 2018-19 it wasn't until i sold a event vehicle on the market and a bunch of build-a-tank parts and bought a tier V premium on sale with gaijin coin that i really got into top tier for larger nations, while smaller nations are comparatively pretty easy.

@RJ Why wouldnt the grind be as hard? Cheap vehicles now were expensive as shit for us. For example the F86F2 sabre was still the full 380,000 RP, and 1.7 Million silver lions just to buy, another 460k to crew. All the now “mid-low” tier vehicles were once top tier and had the price to match. It’s arguably even worse of a grind for an older player because they’ve had to pay top dollar in RP and SL every single time a new vehicle came out. Like i said, 380k RP for leo 1, then 380K more for leo 1a1, then 380k more for leo 2 k etc etc. Versus a new player now all of those previous vehicles are cheap af.

@@SeekerHead F89, F-5C, Su-11 and now kinda the J-35A. They're not a big deal to get rid of when flown by someone with low skill, but when flown by someone who knows what they're doing, they can be basically unstoppable. And that's the problem with that. Otherwise, I also disagree with what you said. Even though jet and prop combat are very different, it's still the same game. A lot of basic game machanics that may come automaticly to you these new players know nothing about. These are things like how to use your keyboard correctly or how to use integrated voice commands for example. And there's quite a big difference between trying to learn them at 1.0-3.0 where most players you'll be facing are new or in a 10.0 premium where 80% of your enemies will know what they're doing. Then there's also the issue of players buying a premium straight away and after getting insta killed 4 games in a row, after which they just give up and never touch wt again. I'd say before you buy a premium, you should at least have a rank 3. And also, you're kinda wrong about the 'it makes no difference'. Even if the 2 are nothing alike, there is a transitional period. It's much easier to learn jet combat at 7.0 then at 9.3. It's kinda like how it's easier to learn to swim by slowly going deeper then by jumping straight into the deep end.

I fly a lot of top tier jets and my complaint about the premiums is not new players purchasing them but the volume of them in matchmaking it feels at time that 3/4s of the player in the 9.3-10.3 br are flying premium aircraft. It makes flying these Brs incredibly stale in my opinion, why does it have to be so rare to see a Yak38m, Cl13, F86K, and F4c. Top Tier feels flooded by the amount of Premium Harriers and F5cs constantly about. Sure they can be easy kills but it does make top tier less enjoyable for me personally. the other issue has typically been how these aircraft have been balanced, i don't think anyone can argue about how badly the Harriers launch was handled. The premiums at these Brs should probably stick to less known aircraft or more diverse prototypes that we would not see in the main tech line rather then just another Harriers or F5 model.

The F5 gains the upper hand and has now a slow, fat SU 7 infront of it. However, the F5 loses in the end and you know why? Great points, surprised me as I thought you were going the opposite way on that, as so many do. War Thunder just has a super bitchy playerbase and the salt it spills over in matches all the time, and out the mouth. People in all walks of life in general have the seniority complex where things should be handed to them as they have been there longer, but it rarely is about that. Education doesn't make you smarter, it just is an opportunity to prove your intelligence, and in a game like this, indeed, learning curves exist and so many genres to get good at. Given how bad stock syndrome and economy is, it is a wonder that more people just don't buy premiums to start out with, because the game is a lot easier to learn if you don't have a crippled vehicle compared to what you are facing, and not enough money to buy repairs or upgrades. I would probably recommend it, especially yeah if you just want to learn high tier jets, then you don't need to worry about years and years of props. Or like people that might be interested in coming over from DCS for more pvp, or someone that is amazing at ace combat or something, they didn't have to mess with props if they didn't want to. Best part for us vets is that they will be easy kills for a while, so why complain? Often it is because we expect more out of our team and that is our own problem, not the other player that sees how to do well completely different, as there isn't a clear way. I have played on and off and jets are very upsetting to me, I just don't get it, I can't afford to grind modules on them because it is generally too expensive. I have tons of planes researched and can't afford them. I have all the planes spaded pretty much through tier 3 and spading in tier 4 is really difficult because of money. I often need to run a premium plane to earn bank. I did recently buy an F-86A-5 and wow it was fun in first match. However, I feel like there won't be anything I can do after my free repairs run out and I meet a wall of Mig-21s su-7's and whatever at 9.3. I want to just skip jets before that kind of, not sure what to do. Thinking of buying into it to learn though, Hunter, F-5, etc, but there is no premium stability, they can raise a BR and kill a premium at any time. Like my German KV1 C that is now 5.0 that I have played like twice because I wasn't ready for that tier. Cheers m8, here you earned a sub.
@SeekerHead

Thanks man appreciated. If you are looking to get a premium jet for learning, the F5C is an interesting option in that case because of its BR. It can compete at top tier, but certainly won’t be the best, but it will be good enough to understand the top tier meta and combat style. On the flip side, at 10.3 you could also get a down tier into the 9.3-7 brackets, which will bring an entirely different combat style to learn. It could be confusing, but also could be a way to get your foot into the door of multiple eras.

A nice tip I have for people struggling to get used to jet combat that I have is that flying your plane to death in test flight before you buy, after your buy and when you have unlocked new weapons is the best way to mitigate the bit where you blame the plane for not performing ETC. Test flights provide a safe environment to test the limits of your plane and get used to the armaments. It sounds like a no brainer if you guys do already do that, but you'd be amazed at how many people I see just ripping their wings or failing to use their guns or even failing to bomb static targets in a dive.. I have more jet experience now than prop experience these days, but whenever I unlock a plane I'm still spending an hour or more flying it in the test flight to see what I can get away with.

You actually made some good points in the video, but I think you forgot to mention about one of the important things in jets, crew level. That's probably why I think people are complaining about new players buying top tier premiums. If you grind from rank 1 and work your way up, you'd already have a lot of crew points to spend on crew skills so it won't hamper your performance when getting into jet tier. If a new player just straight up buy a lets say an F-5C, then I have huge doubts that they even know the concept of crew skills in the first place. I mean, sure they can just buy crew points with GE from the pack, but if they don't know about it, then it'll only make their own experience worse than those who already have a high level crew from grinding.

Stumbled upon this channel a few days ago, and then stumbled upon this video - amazing work with the content, keep it up! Free to player here, with 2,290 hours on the game. I don't think the grind is *particularly* bad, mostly because I think I'm just used to how bad it is. Seeing post-match screenshots of users complaining about how bad the grind has become, with their premium accounts, slightly gets on my nerves (complaining about 4,000 RP per match on a good match when my highest is normally around 1,500 RP) but it's their hard earned money. I've got rank VI USA air, and rank V for USA, Germany, and rank VI for USSR ground. (All vehicles for USSR ground up to rank VI have been spaded and unlocked, which I'm happy about.) I only have 1 'proper' premium aircraft, and that's the Vixen, since I had an incredibly good discount on it and just got it with whatever GE I had lying around. The rest of the premiums are just battle pass free vehicles.

So, I've been playing this game for almost 8 years as well, with around 3k hours played. I completely agree with you regarding air RB. It's really not that big of a deal. Unfortunately, ground RB is another story. Certain nations have certain BR brackets where they will lose more often than not due to 50% of the teams being made up of players that only own the 1 premium vehicle and don't even bother with backups. For a gamemode that relies on strength in numbers a lot of the time, it's hard to win a match when half of your team has died in their T-72AV or XM-1 in the first 5 minutes of the match, left the game, and now you're outnumbered 2-1 for the rest of the match. While I do also agree with you when you say that people should spend their hard-earned money on whatever they please, I personally follow the etiquette of only using a premium or event vehicle when I have at least one other vehicle of the same BR in the main tech tree to use along side it.
@JollyRogers102
2 жыл бұрын
I've seen a comment on WT Live about this telling Gaijin should lock out people from buying a nation's premiums until they reached the tier. Personally, I wasn't a fan of this solution as I saw this as too much of an overkill, especially for the experienced players who just wanted to speedrun through a nation. My idea on this is that every premium vehicle (or at least tanks) should come with a hefty amount of backups (maybe as much as you have free repairs), so that whatever skill level you are, you can at least have that one other vehicle along. Imo, it would at least not affect the team sizes that much, and when it comes to experience ultimately tanks "suffer" from that same prop-jet transition you face in Air, as MBTs and WW2 tanks play very differently in my opinion. Of course, there's also the fact that grinding through standard tank trees do come with more experience (especially in map knowledge, which is so far the only one that comes to me as obvious) than planes, but in the end, even though I could kick ass in my late WW2 germans, I sucked ass in the Leo 1. EDIT : It would be interesting to have a video on the subject of ground vehicles as well.

I literally barely ever played planes past rank 1 other than using p47s as cas, I don't remember how I got them, but this was before jet premiums, the second the f86f35 came out I pre ordered it because prop gameplay sucked, I got the entire tree barely touching props, I loved jets even when I was doing bad and I sometimes touch props and I don't regret skipping them, only feels like I dodged a bullet The only problem I have with jet premiums is there's not a good starter jet premium for every nation, because learning to not rip in the f35 was a bitch to learn without jet experience, and the second I played the f80 it clicked and I understood, things like the su11 are good and the squad 262, and that should be the change, they should have 7.0 premiums that are good general aircraft in most modes, things like the f89 are to specialized, and that often forces conscious players to get things like the f5c because it can do more in more situations

Nice video SeekerHead. I think there are some "universal" pilot habits that take time to pick up, such as maintaining situational awareness, using manual pitch/roll instead of solely relying on mouse aim, and keeping the pilot from blacking out in the fight, but otherwise I agree with the points you made. Jet combat is a very different beast than prop planes. There was another point that caught my attention though, and that was that you considered the game's lack of a ranked matchmaker etc. to be a plus. I think this is where I actually disagree the most. I've also been playing for about 8 years now and more than anything else, I love good dogfights and 1v1s versus a competent pilot in a competitive plane. Close fights alongside an attentive teammate whittling down superior numbers and coming on top stick out in my mind much clearer than the dozens and dozens of matches where ground-pounders and lemming trains dive into the woodchipper and one team is mopped up in less than two minutes. So long as RB Air remains a barebones TDM, I think it would greatly benefit from a skill-based matchmaker.

I agree. I always had something telling me that jet combat was completely different from props, but since everyone in the community was saying otherwise I just brushed it off. Then finally a guy comes up and says what is the truth in my opinion. As long as you know your key binds and how to control a plane you should be fine. So maybe grind out through tier 2 or 3 to learn then fundamentals. I also recommend test flying planes to get more accustomed to their maneuverability, performance, guns, etc.

This is late but if you see it and it helps, that's all that matters. I'm an F-5C player who bought it after spending a good amount of time grinding to rank 5 jets. Only got it bc someone I was playing with got it and said it was really good. While that's true, the F-5C is a nearly unequaled dogfighter at 10.3 BR, you're still gonna struggle a lot to start. You'll die, A LOT. Missiles are a thing at that BR, and some are better than others, just depends what you're against. I didn't even know what the RWR was (the green circle that shows you if you're radar locked or on someone's radar. There's a lot of nuances with top tier game play to keep track of, far more than in props. I really would get some practice in on props before going for premium jets. You may even save yourself some embarrassment, because if good/decent players see a low level premium, they'll likely get made fun of. It took me 2 months of grinding to hit a positive KD in the F-5C, so expect a slow learning process. On the other hand, I've gotten all my rank 6 jets researched in a month, when it took a solid year with premium time to grind to rank 5. Proly didn't help I took a long hiatus from the game lol.

We’re under no obligation to say anything good about the game to stay partnered. Aside from that, I made this video way before i was even in the CC program. This is my honest opinion, and especially so at the 11:00 minute mark. Everyone should be able to have access to a jet without having to grind for 2 years to play it. People have lives and shit to do. So many people download the game for modern vehicles only, and then never get to unlock any. It’s better that they buy a premium than just quit the game entirely. Being fine with premiums but not top tier premiums is nothing short of false elitism. You think just because you’re at top tier you’re playing the best players in the game - and having noobs ruins it? Laughable, think again. Top tier is honestly some of the worst players in the game, regardless of how good they were on previous BRs, because they can’t grasp the concept of modern jet fighting. If skill isn’t going up in tandem with BR, why should anyone have to deal with premiums? Why should there even be premiums? Your argument is a fallacy

Whatever you do don't get ho229 as your 1st jet unless you specifically play this game to fly this aircraft. Most of the skills of ho229 are not transferable to other jets of any other nation, or even the jet that comes right after it (the g91 r3) maybe outside energy management. Ho229 teaches you to: 1. Hold down the trigger, many other jets have sub 5 second burst time before they are out of ammo. 2. Engage in turn fights and stall fights, almost all other jets have high stall speeds and turn very slowly compared to props and the ho229 3. Forget the x axis or rolling, other jets have very responsive yaw steering and wing fins for rolling 4. Climb a lot, other jets have a far easier time of retaining their energy so they don't have to climb that much, really only enough to have room for maneuvering and regaining energy a little bit faster 5. Sometimes it's ok to just go slow, due to ho229s exceptional turn rate (at the cost of yaw axis maneuverability) sometimes it's ok to go slow and just dodge incoming fire from energy fighters like the f80, mig9, or the kikka, other jets rely almost solely on their speed to avoid fire, in combination with erratic moves while slowly working their enemy to overshoot them, in a ho229 you can often just bank full right or left and the enemy can't follow that. Hope I've helped someone to make the correct choice of 1st jet.

Straight out of college, I ended up landing a full time job and just like that I don't have as much time to play as I used to in order to unlock all the cool new aircraft. Recently I just got promoted with my job and have even less time. So to compensate, I just bought some top tier premium vehicles for the countries I play the most (USA+ Germany + USSR) during the October sale a few years ago so I wouldn't lag behind for the rest of the year (some of the premiums like the XM-1, BO-105, KA50, T-72 TURMS, etc, are still strong even now so I haven't bought any more since). Also, most of the premiums are real money makers even without premium time, so I'm able to pay the ridiculous top tier repair costs, weapon restocking, etc. Yeah it sucks, but I get it. It's F2P and Gaijin has to make money somehow. Either way, I make more than enough money to justify these purchases and I don't care what people think. When I was in HS I played with MuchFlight a lot before and after he was a gamemaster. He was always FTP and never spent a cent on the game. It took him years to research just a few tech trees. Keep in mind this was in 2013-2016 when the trees were much smaller.

Best advice I can give buying premium is buy the pack on the store and use those GE to level your crew up!

Welp, i 've been playing WT since 2013. 10k + games in my beloved FW 190-D13 with a 4-1 KD in RB. It was the first premium i bought and i still play it a whole lot. I have all ger and ru aircraft tech trees unlocked, but i never rly got into jets except recently (i think the most battles in a single jet so far was lower than 10). I always hated it because i suck at it. First one was Mig-9. I remember stock, i would finally reach the middle of the map and everybody was already dead. These past days, i jumped in a stock MiG-23MLD. Let me tell you, even if i can be considered a quite experienced player, so far, in the past two days with the MLD, i think i have at most 10 kills for around 60 games played. Jets are so different. Even guns. I mean, i use stealth ammo in my FW and could hit 1.2km shots with my eyes closed, yet i didn't manage a single gun kill with the MLD yet. Before i unlocked missiles, it was just painfull. I resorted to ground to even get some rp to grind the first missile unlock. That said, about what you said about boom & zoom, so far the only kills i managed to get were boom and zoom from the ground delivering a fox-2 un noticed then heading out. Maybe my playstyle just doesn't fit jets, idk. Anyways. It's so different that i think getting a premium jet doesn't matter for a dime. I'm only starting to get descent (meaning a kill every 2-3 games). No double kill yet tho.

I bought the F86F-35 after like 3 years of owning the game and really only bought it to boost me to tier V I was at the beginning if tier IV and was getting stuck on the insane RP required to unlock the planes. I had enough experience to play decently and never made people think I sucked. But my problem wasn't learning to fly the jet but fight the high tier jets at 9.0 or 9.7 the -35 is a 8.7 but CONSTANTLY gets uptiered so you have to battle Mig-19's Mig-21's J29's A-4e's etc. And the -35 is outdated in every way except the engine you have to survive basically because you have every disadvantage. And after months of owning the plane I've been getting through tier IV doing exactly what I wanted to do. It's a lovely plane that flies well and outruns almost all other sabres. But you don't fight what you are supposed to fight. (Historical enemies like the Mig-15 or even Mig-17 not the Mig-21 ). So i honestly don't care if people buy the premium planes as long as they don't go right to tier 6 or 7 Because all tier V jets have their weaknesses and have it hard. Except G.91's their BR and armaments make them OP. They can go die.

In my example I needed CAS for tank RB what made me grind Air and after I got to the MIG-27 by playing Yak-28 which I enjoyed trolling harriers that would chase you for 10 years. I really started liking 11.0 Jet combat but had to realize that I was A bad in it and B the MIG-27 just isn´t a "noob friendly" "fighter". It’s that you can get to top tier with a playstyle that just Rapidly ends there that made me want to buy a premium Jet to just learn without paying 14k for getting sniped by a f14 with 10k battles. And the MIG-27 (In my opinion should be placed after the IL-28) comes from a line of Bombers but is forced to be played as a Fighter in Air RB. So, for people like me who have a 11.0 Jet and want to learn high level Jet combat (not like 8.0 where its basically 6.0 but faster) what premium would you suggest?

I didn't spend a single cent on WT till this year, I'd been playing since before tanks existed and had not a single top tier vehicle in that time (Up to about lvl 45 I had 0 premiums) I ground my ass off one month to get the hitlerbolt from the warbond shop before it changed and that was my SL grinder for 2-3 years I'd made slow progress sitting in the middle tier for brit tanks 5-6 and mid-high tier for planes 7-9, Still love the venom so much The biggest thing was I had to play things I didn't want to play for YEARS before I could get into planes that I wanted to fly Sure the low tier brit planes were great but I didn't want to be grinding jets with a T2 Hurricane, it would be nigh impossible Then even after unlocking new things I'd have to jump back in the old hitlerbolt a few times a year to get that SL flowing again as the repair costs when you're trying to rank up is just another massive delay After the swedish tree came out I decided I wanted the Drakken, I can pin the exact day I decided to go hard on grinding it 25th of april 2020 (Coincidence? kzitem.info/news/bejne/z5Cusahsa2Wrg2U) I think it took about 3-5 months of serious hard grinding, up to 40 matches a day and playing 2-5 days a week to get there but I finally did it, lots of breaks in the hitlerbolt to recover my SL and many disapointments along the way (Looking at you A29b/Ja29) and after 296 P47 matches and a buttload of grinding I finally got myself the J35D Which is still in my top 3 favorite aircraft easily (Although oof in this meta) After that I decided to finally try to get my top tier brits and had ground my way up to the lightning (Flying dorito POWAH) so with a lot of patience I used that to unlock the next 2 jets in the tree for myself, the Harrier GR3 and the Hunter F1, being that the lightning is very limited in potential I decided to ditch that and grab the GR3 only to find a very similar problem although I did have more success in it than the lightning it was more because the meta had changed than anything I think (Flares became near essential if you couldn't turn) At some point in here the first battle pass happened and after watching it carefully I decided to pick it up so I had something to get me climbing in the US tree Trying to grind the brits sent my SL into the floor so I made a post asking about the best cheap SL grinders and bought my first plane the A6M5 Ko, I expected to regret it but boy was I wrong I still intend to spend little to no more money on the game but I enjoy my new plane and it helped me grind my way up to 5.5 mil SL as it perfectly fit my playstyle and printed SL After that I waited for a sale and bought out every plane I had reasearched in the Jap and US tree as well as the brit jets I wanted Now I have the FGR 2 and am about halfway though researching it My SL is down in the 1.4m area and I'm just chilling and enjoying the planes that I want to fly now (I freaking love jets) Feel free to ask any questions thunderskill.com/en/stat/DougStep I have to say though skipping 3 full battle ratings is a MASSIVE deal when it comes to jets I think premiums are fine provided they are well ballanced but that you should have to either buy a low tier jet to start and play that a while before unlocking top tier premiums, force people to play a well made tutorial and some bot matches with your new shiny jet and or top tier jets shouldn't be premium Sure none of these will stop the odd person here or there being braindead but the idea is not to stop them all just cut the numbers down Make it so there are less people who are clueless is the goal not repel people from the game If WT had any kind of reasonable tutorial this would happen so much less it's not even funny

And there is a ton of things that transfer from props Into jets. You're nuts if you think otherwise. From defensive flying/maneuvers, to target prioritization/selection, to energy management in dogfights. List goes on. Props build all the fundamentals you'll need for jets

It all compounds and builds. Just because it all happens faster, doesn't mean all your previous experience is useless. I'll take a level 75 prop player in his first saber, over a level 10 with a premium Saber.

I have only spent 15 dollars on this game only got a premium zero and a kei 61 honestly don't regret it I tried to grind America completely free and I gave up on the thunder bolt that is 63k research points because per game with American all I got was 800 research points with rank IV planes it honestly frustrating how much you need to grind for a plane you don't care about but need to get just to be able to get the planes you want

I'm a trucker...I simply don't have time to grind through a bajillion vehicles to get toys I want to play with. I HAVE found that WT is a good enough game, I can enjoy myself just playing and not worrying about the grind so much. But, again....there are vehicles I want. So? I Wallet Warrior. Either to get something I want, or to get a grinder good enough to get there somewhat quickly. And jets? Jets I do decent in. The real eye-opener was buying a top-tier tank. Jebuz that was, and still is, a painful experience. I haven't played tanks enough to have memorized every position on every map, and that just kills you in high-tier tanks. Literally.

I bought the AV8A when I first saw it as a premium because someone I know who is like an older brother to me worked on them when I was like 9 in 2001. I grinded my way through the tech tree on german first till I got to the BF109 Trop. I first bought the G91 and reliably so decided I needed work. Then went to the American tech and grinded with props. Then after boredom I bought the AV8A... then grinded with the f2h and the Sabres. Every jet proposed a new learning curve. I still pull out the premi AV when I need lions... the f100 and F4C almost made me quit till now... THE F4E... that's going to make me quit lol.

Regarding your last point, my grandfather flew on romanian mig 21s and i've always wanted to play the jet, i don't want to just buy the 21, i feel it's just a waste of money. Any tips for the grind/getting better at the game and enjoying it more

Ive played military flight Sims for several years. I'm playing as Germany in WT. Right now I'm at rank 4 soon to be rank 5 pilot. I do have the ta 154 and Fw 190 d 13. However the reason I got those two premiums is to grind more efficiently to get the next ranks due to the bonuses. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to buy(for example) the premium mig 21. However, I need practice using missiles against other players. Not sure if other people agree with how I'm using premiums, but that's how I see it. Baby steps.

I sort of agree. I’d say if you’re buying your way into jets then get an earlier jet rather than a later one. Don’t go straight for top tier because you will absolutely be deleted. Go into the 7.0-8.0 bracket where you’re going to be facing more players who don’t know what they’re doing with jets rather than 10.0-11.0 where more people do. Knowing how to manage your energy in a jet is very important and it’s something you really learn with the earlier jets.

While your right that a lot of the skills and concepts do not transfer over 1-1 from props to jets, there is a HUGE difference between familiarizing them in hundreds of hours in bottom and mid tiers from jumping into an entire unfamiliar not only vehicle but video game in general. Even if combat in jets is vastly different from props most of the game mechanics youve already been introduced to before and a lot of the jets in the tech tree you've already looked at. New players dumped into here may not know how to play the game in the slightest and its not something you can get the hang of with a couple matches.

I wanted to play jets, tryed props till rank4 with a premium us prop. still grinding was not a good xp as a new player. Then i watched a lot of videos for premium jets and bought the f4s. Had so much fun grinding out the us tree. Some tuts watched for radar missiles and go. Its like always, the personal experience raises with your interest and effort. Still using the f4s for sl grind

The experience you get from props does not matter when it comes to jet battles. if you are new to game and all you want to do is play jet battles, buying a premium jet and skipping props will not affect your experience. I was shocked when I realized I grinded propellers for years just to become a noob in jet battles

I’ve not spent any money on this game, I am rank 3 on America and British tech trees on aircraft. I’ve been playing for half a year and I’m still enjoying this game. I have thought abt spending money on this game bc I’m kinda experienced but still haven’t. I probably won’t and just to grind out the game until jets :D. I defo recommend playing the game and get experienced with the game before you do spend money :D
