You forgot to mention that this MV was like a love letter to Thailand by incorporating the country’s current aesthetic and prioritizing the inclusion of her Thai peers in the involvement of the MV creation.

" 'Lisa, can you teach me Japanese?' I said 'Hai,hai' " 2:03 Imo is an ironic verse depicts how non-Asian people (because this song is categorized as pop instead of K-pop) think that all Asians are just Japanese or Chinese and when they talk to her they ask her to teach them some Japanese rather than Thai. "Hai, hai" is also a mocking yeah yeah, as it is extremely informal and used when people want to do something unwillingly or after someone insists a lot. I saw this on reddit and thought it makes a lot of sense as an Asian so I shared it here :)

i absolutely love your videos and this analysis is just the cherry on top. it's so interesting to me, as a fan of blackpink and the girls individually, how each one of them are crafting their own artistry and searching for their own sound. i feel like lisa and her team did a great great job at highlighting her persona and it shows in "Rockstar" really well. from the sound and the lyrics, you can tell she was the focus, as in reinforcing her brand and showing us once again her impact. also, the switch from k-pop to pop in the charts, tell us a lot about what she's aiming for, and it's pretty interesting to see. it reminds me a lot of the topic being brought by blackpink's producer and composer, about what's k-pop really. not to mention that this is like a way of erasing that label, but it's like the doors are opening for foreign artists to also have representation in a more commercial, global market and that's what lisa does. thank you so much for the video and the analysis!!!

i can't watch the video rn bc i have no headphones w me, ill watch later. here are some opinions, sorry that it's long. im super hyped for her comeback, im a long time fan of lisa and blackpink and think they're a really admirable k-pop act. i do get sad when they go for a long time without a comeback. yada yada, the usual blink experience. imo i think lisa has had black music and style on her moodboard for a long time and we've seen... unfortunate results like "you gon finna catch me" (that's my favourite blackpink song 😭) and personally, i did not like lalisa, as catchy of a chorus as it has. the rap is just not it. ive heard rockstar and think it's an AWESOME song, she fits the concept, it's fun, it's cool. i like the concept a lot too. my issue with lisa isn't her embracing her tan skin or her making her own art, it never has been. it's just this idolization and almost desire that certain idols, especially rappers have to copy black american and african style. im african myself. i like that there's amapiano and afrobeats in k-pop, two genres i almost IGNORED in the past and didn't know much about. what i don't like is the way accents are copied, dances are almost simplified or "gentrified" and most of these idols have never listened to afrobeats or interacted with african americans outside of popular media. they don't know where their inspiration is coming from. that cultural blindness is the problem we face in kpop, jpop and even in europe where i live now. there's no consideration for who you're copying: their struggles and their culture. i hope we'll see some more respectful and genuine renditions of black and african art. i wish lisa the absolute best!!

one more thing, i adore the fact that she used thai instruments in lalisa. (can't remember if she did in any other song) that was such a beautiful sort of tribute to her roots. she's an amazing artist

I mean some accents help with the rapping much better, plus lisa always had that exotic Thai accent which made her voice really like that in English, you will also see she says "like" like 109 times in one sentence. But is it wrong to be inspired by black music? Yeah lots of knetz are racist, but they are even racist to other non - south Asian Asians. Plus lisa is like friends with tyla, Smith family, and God knows who other.

@@GigiM_winx okay, i understand what you're saying but there are flaws in this that every black person has heard before. firstly, you're absolutely right, some accents sound better in rap than others but kpop idols who rap in an african american accent (im not talking about her thai one here, that's her accent) rap that way bc african americans literally invented rap music. of course it sounds *more authentic* but is it necessary? second, inspiration is good, whether it's music or a painting. my issue is that in kpop, it's not always inspiration. sometimes it's a mockery or blatant copying (not accusing blackpink here). most idols don't know much about the genres they replicate and many have inexperienced creative teams *feeding them concepts*. i don't think that's always the case for lisa but there can be cases of it here and there. (see: "you gon finna catch me" and her use of a black accent in tons of songs. that's not how she sounds). it's so apparent. finally, being friends with black people does not make you immune to your own racist behaviour.

@crashh-course I get what you mean. I mean atleast yg has always said that they are grateful to the black artists that invented hip hop, domt know about others. I get the want to be represented and to be respected and be recognized. And honestly.... maybe not in Korea, but black artists are really well respected recognized in rap industry to be honest, so that's deserved. But also in the last paragraph.... when has lisa ever been like clearly racist tho? She hasn't been

I also love that she embraces tan skin in the cover here esp since theres a lot of colourism in SEA and as a SEA person its so cool ro see someone embrace something against the beauty standard so stylistically and stylishly and i love the aesthetic and style of the whole comeback and her embrace of thai aesthetic and thai influencers and thai peers to show off the diversity of Thailand.

Ok ~OPINION DUMP~ Personally I LOVED Rockstar call me biased. Lisa didn't play it safe at all, she could've been between vocal kpop performance and full hyperpop and given average of nothing. But she dared and went the cyberpunk route which was PERFECT This gave be Brat By Charlie XCX vibes (it's good 👀) and cyberpunk and I LOVED IT the chorus was finally complete and not just catchy. The verses were cool. People hate autotube, but lisa used it in the BEST way, the rap was sick and the final beat synth fusion was everything. In my opinion i loves this song. Lalisa felt missing yet it felt like 10 songs, this feels like a COMPLETE good good song, though a bit short

I'm having trouble picking up on this song. Generally I'm not a BP fan but I love each of them individually, especially Lisa, for her immense talent (mainly dancing - just second to none!), the girl has something about her that catches the eye. But the song is... lame. The dancing, the dynamics, the colours and the whole emotion in the video do more than the lyrics themselves. Lisa is not a rockstar - a popstar definitely is! And if it had been framed that way, maybe they would have made more of an impression? I don't know.
