Dickens had the first verse tucked away in his guitar case and Haggard encouraged him to pull it out and share. Dickens told Haggard, he hadn't finished it. Merle, the good ol' boy that he was, "Jimmy, I think I can finish it for you"...and he did! Merle's version is on the Going Where the Lonely Go album. When Merle sings it, I think of his marriages and that he finally found the right lady with Theresa and together for 30 years!
