In this video, I wanted to give a reflection on what it's really like living with a Mental Illness from a real sufferer point of view. I am not medically qualified; I am simply sharing my experience. If you have any health issues physical or mental please seek the help of a trained professional.
I personally suffer from Severe Agoraphobia and Non-Severe OCD, which I've previously described as Travel Anxiety. I also tend to suffer from depression as a result of the symptoms caused. This leads me to have severe panic attacks before and during travel or being exposed to any situation that I feel I do not have control. Commuting in London, for example, can only exacerbate the condition further due to how full the trains and public transport can be. It is the reason you won't see me at any conventions or fan meetups.
I have personally gone to my Doctor many times throughout my life about my issues. I have tried CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy), spoken to a Psychiatrist and tried Hypnotherapy.
No one who is born with a mental illness asked for it, and the amount of suffering it causes can be immense. It can also go hand in hand with exacerbating depression. Even if you are not born with one, events in your life can cause them to appear. It can be forever present, affect what you do on a daily basis, the choices you make, who you interact with and can easily lead to a suppressed quality of life.
For me, there is most likely no cure, but there are different options and therapies available. The first step is to seek help from your Doctor, who can then help manage your issue, ensure it's recognised on your health record, and point you towards the appropriate treatment.
If all this video achieves is helping a single person seek help from a trained professional who needs it, then it would have accomplished its goal.
