That is a short truck compared to what some states allow. A quad in Georgia is worth 80,000 but,.. ,depending on spacing, Florida may give you much less. I ran 13 and 19 axle traffic. We hauled mostly drill rigs and 600# plus excavators. We had several trailers, some low boys for transformers, construction equipment, and large but not that large stuff. My favourite was a 100 ton Siebert with a 10 foot deck, although we had 11 axle Lidells, and Fontaines, The Siebert was a tank, you could load a 100 ton object and not worry about weight distribution. I was in a 367 Pete, the only one Pete has that has a 22,500 front axle. I had a 4:11 final drive ratio but could drop into 5:66 which pulls like a grizzly bear, but I got old..Im dropping this note from a beach in Thailand where Thai twins are giving me massages, one does head, shoulders, face, and back. and the other does feet, legs, and butt. The lobster dumplings are on the way. There is life after trucks.

I still got a few years to go before my retirement but it sounds like you’re making the best of it 👍 This is a good sized company with a couple hundred trailers to choose from so they (usually lol) have just the right trailer for the job. We use the smallest configuration we can get away with depending on the states we are operating in. The the same load in the deep south we would’ve used a trailer with a booster in stead of the quad. Enjoy your time off ✌️

I glad to see you used protectors in the appropriate places. Thanks again, Doug, for showing the setup. All of the little tricks make a huge difference in keeping your sanity! Also, thanks for showing the weight, you don't always so I figure you aren't allowed to share.
@luckybananaheavyhaul3407
Жыл бұрын
So the way the machine is loaded it’s hard to show you the chain from the back. I only used a shackle because my hook was too small for the hook point on the machine. This chain goes from the machine down to the trailer and back up to the opposite side of the machine with a binder in the middle. Personally I count it as a full chain. However if you get some DOT officer who wants to go by the book word for word the law states “from the trailer, over the load, to the opposite side of the trailer”. I know this but I would love to hear from an engineer about the difference between trailer to load or load to trailer.

I’m not a fan of automatics, mostly because I’m a young guy and I find them boring to drive. It takes some getting used to but it seems to work. The biggest difference I found so far is when you’re doing something technical like trying to attach a gooseneck to a trailer. With a clutch you can feel how much pressure you’re putting without spinning a wheel. The first time I hooked a gooseneck with this truck I dug holes lol

I try to run at minimum height just high enough that they don’t touch when hitting bumps on the highway. When you get on uneven ground such as parking lots or entrance ways it is inevitable that they touch a little bit. At slow speed the loader tires turn when they touch.

Hello- That was different. In my time all wheel loaders were built in Aurora. Took me a minute to figure which lot you loaded in. I never loaded in that lot. I don't remember that yard man but he was damn good. Didn't even bring the L/S fork down onto the neck frame. The fenders kept you from picking the dolly from underneath on the air bag mount? We had the same problem at Keen. They were to short also. But I was surprised to see how much shim you installed at the back of the beam. With my 2007 Trail King with the same deck length as yours was, my closed 4 never needed more than 1/4 inch shim hauling anything and still got a tighter weight difference between the two groups. Have you been happy with your trans. and the freight that you haul? As always, a great video. Thanks for recording it. Brought back some memories. Have a good day.
@luckybananaheavyhaul3407
Жыл бұрын
Sadly I loaded one of the last ones to come out of Aurora. The big loaders are all Decatur now. We only need half as much shim in the newer trailers but these old ones flex a lot. I’m not a fan of the auto trans but it seems to be the way the world is going.
@johnwiesner6534
Жыл бұрын
@@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 I just saw a typo on my part. I meant to say that I never needed more than a 1/4 inch. Bit if we had to insert a deck extension into any trailer, we were shimming fools. Thanks. I was going to introduce the truck in a different video but this one got posted first. The truck is 6 months old. It had 30,000 km on when I got it. I’m not a fan of the automatic but it seems to be the way the world is going. The only thing I noticed about the automatic is if you are trying to be very easy on the fuel doing something technical like hooking up a gooseneck to a trailer there is less feeling to the automatic. With a clutch you can feel the friction and put just enough pressure without spinning a wheel. The first time I hooked a gooseneck with this truck I dug holes 🤣 They bought 5 of these Peterbilts and they are set up just a little bit heavier with the thought that these trucks will have priority on the bigger loads. You could say I chose more the work this truck will get than the actual truck itself.

When setting up the trailer can your do it on your own or is the forklift needed? There’s no Blaster or other lube sprayed on the pilot points or pins,is that intentional not to attract dirt ?

Things like flipping the rear axle can be done using the truck but it is hard on the equipment and there is a good chance for causing damage. I don’t like doing it. It’s much more gentle on the equipment to use a machine. If there is no forklift available we often use the same loader or excavator we are transporting to assemble or disassemble the trailer. Any oil would just build up dirt and eventually make it harder
