I love the commentary Chris. It adds so much to the videos when we are given insight into why you do things a certain way, what the issues are and how you overcome them. You'll have bred a bunch of armchair operators over the years. I can't see an excavator in my travels without telling my wife stuff like 'That's the wrong bucket for that job' or saying how much the excavator probably cost.

Preacher! I'm SW Houston and they are widening Kegans Glenn canal over my back fence. 2 Hyundai 3300's excavators, a dozer, a loader and a compactor. EVERY day they march down from their rally point to continue work (just under a mile, so far). Back to rally for lunch, work, back to rally for quitting time. Last week I saw a 3300 slicking 15' from the water line for an hour that would have taken the doser 3 minutes. I may not be well...

Wow that 25 minute sycamore stump was a beauty. Only 5 flies - ever heard of the Aussie wave :) - they or even one is a proverbial pain. Don't always realize how many trees have been removed until the brush and stumps are in evidence. Loving this project LetsDig18.

Trivia.... We are in central indiana. We were talking one day about no poplar to speak of West of the wabash river. But cottonwood all the way to the Rockies.. It turns out its was the prairie fires.. Cotton wood is fire resistant and poplar not so. The Wabash was a naturall fire break.... Also more trees are bring planted today than are being harvested East of the Mississippi. Mostly because states give tree farms a propert tax break. And non tillable is not used as Much for pasture. Indy is the 4th largest hardwood producing state. Big business today growing trees. Most tree tops now here are chipped. Right at harvest time. For mulch and for the chip board plants making chipboard. And dome to pellet mills making pellets for heating. Very little waste any more. Use sawdust at the mill to heat and in kilns to dry lumber. I really enjoy these videos.

Man, the feeder roots on some of those stumps are really long. I am sure some of that is vines, but it is amazing what a bog with red clay underneath will allow some really big trees to anchor and spread. The really big stumps will make great fish habitats.

The joys of stump removal. My old +35 yr old Hitachi EX120- 2 struggles with the large pine stumps here in low country SC. It is not uncommon to take 30 min per stump and then I have a 10-12ft long stump that I can barely lift. However It sure does beat a pick and shovel!! Really like the stumping attachment. Definitely the best tool for the job.

This logging-operation looks so foreign to my Scandinavian eyes. Probably works just as well but it's... different. By no means am I any forrest-worker, but we have a lot of woods in Sweden and the way we clear large areas of forrest is quite efficient using a harvester and a forwarder. When done only the stumps are left as limbs and such is gathered in and chipped. The area is then re-forrested by planting new fir/pine-trees to replace the old... 70-80 years later the process repeats.
