Awesome! The Cicadas really add to the piece. Once, when I first started playing, I had a Canyon Wren fly up to me and join me in a duet. That little bird taught me alot.

Thanks! The summer air in Korea is so alive with insect sounds, isn't it? It's such a great aural backdrop for the NAF. Bruce

Thank you SO much for the wonderful comments! It's always a pleasure to get such feedback because I know the music has touched someone, and that is the intention. As for music, I have LOTS of it available. I released two albums in CD format: Under Watchful Skies (2010) and Elegant Simplicity (2011). ES is in fact a double CD. I have also released another nine albums for digital download only, and again, one of those is the equivalent of a double CD. Most of those are comprised of the audio extracted from my KZitem videos and cleaned up a bit. A few of those may see a future CD release as well (as soon as I have enough disposable income for that!) Look here: allenbruceray.bandcamp.com/

Yes, I agree with you about how it sounds. I wish I still had daily access to this marvelous tunnel. Recently I've actually been trying to make more videos like this in other places, but the wind and the traffic have not been cooperative so far. Rest assured, more videos are forthcoming!

Why thank you for your very kind comments about my playing! Yes, I LOVE this tunnel. There's actually another one in my neighborhood which is bigger and better-sounding than this one, so I recorded a few of these short improvisations there as well. The drawback is that occasional local traffic runs through the big tunnel, whereas this one sees no traffic as it's in a field under a small highway... but it's a 30-minute + hike to get there from my apartment. Oh well, I need the exercise. Cheers!

+Harry Chisholm Thank you, Harry, and good luck to you on your journey as you develop your flute playing skills. I have no doubt you'll be able to play this one. There's not really a lot to it once you learn how to do bends, pops, and a few other ornaments, and those are not at all hard to master. The hardest thing for most folks is getting a good vibrato. For some people, it can take a while to get the right feel while others can produce it pretty much straight away. All in all, this is a very easy, and therefore rewarding instrument to play, so have FUN! Peace ~ Bruce

One of the things that I found with my flute (High Spirits G) is that it depends a lot of where you play it as well as how you play. That tunnel is just right for that sound. I play at work in a large atrium with a glass ceiling. Far better than my living room with thick carpet dampening the sound.

Definitely true, and the environment completely influences HOW the flute gets played. That said, I still enjoy hearing the flute from time to time in an intimate setting. Nothing beats the inspiration provided by these lively spaces, though!

This is in South Korea, where I live and work as a teacher. It's just a little access tunnel underneath a minor highway. I think farmers use it to go between their fields. It's actually at the end of a dead-end road in a part of the city of Chuncheon called Dong-myeon. It's roughly 1 hour northeast of Seoul by car.

Very hard to find Native American flutes in the uk but they have 1 stockist here. My first was a walnut cm bass flute. Thanks to some of your videos :) think I'll have to order a gm soon aswell

Sorry my videos have had an adverse effect on your wallet...he-he... but glad to know that these flutes have enriched your life! They most certainly have enriched mine. High Spirits makes some superb flutes, so you really cannot do wrong with any purchase from them. Their newer designs are even better than what they had previously. Better get yourself a new Redtail Hawk!

+Allen Bruce Ray I'm so impressed with mine. Tho I'm currently torn between Gm and F#m and I kinda fancy a Am aswell haha this is starting to get expencive. Looked into laughing crow and there one off peices, wow there nice but the import tax on a $1200 flute would be astronomic haha Keep up the good work Allen

@yasm92008 So true! Odell makes some great flutes & does indeed stand behind them. I recently had my triple flute repaired by Odell's shop after it had gotten smashed in my luggage while traveling, and his repair cost was VERY reasonable. They do high-quality work.

Thank YOU, sir, for your kind and generous reply, and for subscribing! This was done in 2008. I really miss that tunnel. There's now a golf practice range immediately behind the opening where I'm standing in this video, and there is constant traffic in and out from very early in the morning until about 11 p.m. I think it was built in 2011 or 2012. Someday I may bring some kind of cheap lighting rig out there and play after midnight just to see if it would work out...

Hey, thanks much for the great comment and subscription! I'm in India now so I can't really watch many videos, but I'll give yours some time soon. Vibrato is somethng that is very individual; you have to develop it in your own way. Mine comes as a pulse from the diaphram, but some people use their throat muscles. Both work well. Try using your singing voice vibrato (that's what I do). Keep on posting your videos, and enjoy your flute journey. There is much in store for you. Peace ~ Bruce
