ngl using nelson mandela as an example for why you shouldnt make snap judgments based on the terrorist designation makes sense i think? hes not making some large comparison between mandela and nasrallah or something lol

It does make sense. The truth is, every paramilitary organization working against the US interests (and by extent, Israel) is either terrorists or rebels. Dictators if they're a country's leading party, and terrorists if they commit any form of guerrilla warfare that unfortunately ends with civilian casualties.

I don’t think the problem is that Nelson Mandela was used as an example for snap judgements regarding the label of “terrorist”, but I think him using that example as a comparison to Hezbollah was the reason for Loner’s indictment. Even without the US designating them as “terrorists”, Hezbollah would be deemed as such through their actions. And Hezbollah’s actions compared to the terrorism caused by Mandela are on a fundamentally different level in terms of proposed objectives and the process for achieving them.

“America falsely labeled one person a terrorist therefore everyone they label a terrorist is a false label,” is, in fact, not what he said. He disagreed with the idea that the US govt calling a person or organization “terrorist” means that that person or organization is something that individual people should dislike. He used one example where that was obviously not true to prove his point. Look, let’s look at this in terms of formal logic. A = “the US govt calls X a terrorist.” B = “a person should dislike X.” C = “X is a terrorist.” The original claim is: A -> B Hasan gives an example where both of the following are true: ~B AND ~C A AND ~B The second of those is used to disprove the original claim, because it creates a contradiction. However, that does not mean that he has proven, or claimed to have proven: A -> ~B And even worse, you say that he has actually claimed: A -> ~C -> ~B This is invalid logic, used to set up a strawman.

While this is all technically correct, I think the problem Loner was getting at was that Hasan genuinely doesn't believe Hezbollah is a terror organization and also throwing Mandela under the bus to protect terror orgs from the accusation of terrorism is fucking gross. We don't need to bust out the first order or symbolic logic to break down every statement like this.

@@xAssailantx Hasan said Luffy from One Piece is a terrorist. I think it's pretty safe to assume he simply doesn't see the label of "terrorist" as an inherently bad one. He is brining up Mandela not to claim Hezbollah shouldn't be classified as a terrorist organization but to claim that being classified as a terrorist doesn't make someone bad automatically.
