It depends on the scoring system, is judged only the hit, not all the dinamic, in kendo the refrees are the only who ghive or not points, what fighters (or "seconds") have to say are irrelevant, that's because the scoring system are much more complex so just feeling of hit or not are not enough Over that are a demonstration of good spirit, instead of the poor show we see in olympic fencing

Phylotoffer maybe slightly lighter, but still within what you'd see historically. Weight isn't really a huge constraint for a longsword since you have so much leverage. It would be a bigger issue for broadsword or especially rapier, where weight can really start to cause issues due to being one handed. A lot of tournaments don't even segregate men and women. The women are at a bit of a disadvantage, due to being weaker, but strength rarely is the most important factor in a swordfight, so some women often get fairly far.

What legendary is there to this. The guy didn't actually block the attack and followed up with a hittrade (head for thighs). The block itself wasn't proper and it's easier to do than you think. Look, HEMA guys are certainly amazing but giving them credit where it's not due isn't too good
@Alpha.Phenix

Our understanding of what thighs are, must be diffrent then. And he didn't get hit, the blade just bounced of his head *with the flat* , meaning the ''block'' was proper enough.

Unfortunately the scoring is too subjective to make it as an Olympic sport (for now). Strict, objective scoring (likely electronic) would be required... gather top practitioners around the world with fame, money, and their country's pride on the line and I doubt you'd see such honorable actions.
@gt4lex
6 жыл бұрын
Artistic skating ? Think that's way more subjective, yet it is still in olympics.
@Darkrender
6 жыл бұрын
We have only to look at modern Olympic fencing to see how the sport would invariably turn out if it were added to the olympics unfortunately. With such high stakes on the line, no one would ever call out hits against themselves, or their own bad hits, in the name of honor when a lot of money, and as Shiroto said, their nations pride is on the line. No matter how you look at it, the sport would just devolve into current olympic fencing, and then what would the purpose be of it even being in the olympics? its technically already there
@Tarooo89
6 жыл бұрын
Darkrender Actually thanks to electronic scoring, Olympic fencing is a highly accurate game of tag, down to the millisecond ;-)
@Darkrender
6 жыл бұрын
Im not saying its not highly accurate, im saying HEMA would just devolve into exactly what modern olympic fencing is if it were added to the olympics. And then you'd just have two of the exact same sport.

Legend 171 There's no way to know for certain how often they were actually used, but you can find many techniques involving grappling, throws, or even grabbing the enemy's weapon in a lot of HEMA manuals.
