Sharply written and very well acted, especially by Jack Smethurst, but one of the delights of the program was that it gave leading roles to two of the most attractive people on British TV circa 1972; Nina Baden-Semper was stunningly lovely, and Rudolph Walker could have taken over from Richard Roundtree as Shaft with nothing but a little dialect coaching.

I always watched this as a kid and it was hilarious. This is the first time I've seen a whole episode since they must have last aired it I think. I could tell back then, as a kid, that Jack was like another Alf Garnett. An idiot that spoke before thinking first, but that's what makes it funny, the joke is on him all the time. But there was never any racial hatred between Jack and Rudolfs characters. Like others have said, these days the leftie PC brigade wouldn't allow it on TV. It's interesting to note too, that at 12:00 they start becoming really friendly together. That's why the clues in the title, Love Thy Neighbour.

Every comment about the PC brigade is right. This show would not be broadcast now. Comedy Gold. But do you know why characters like Eddie Booth, Alf Garnett and Rigsby were so good ? These well written comedy characters were not truly racist. They were stupid men that came out with stupid, ignorant comments, that was the comedy gold mine. But they were not violent, dangerous individuals. There are two sides to racism, the ignorant, ridiculous and totally stupid . That makes for comedy. Then the nasty, vicious side of racism, which does lead to violence. What Love Thy Neighbour, Till Death Do Us Part and Rising Damp displayed was the funny, stupid side of racism. An intelligent person would completely understand that. Ultimately, racism is not funny. But many racist remarks are so foolish, it makes the remarks funny. How stupid and ridiculous to be racist. That's what the writers sought to convey. Remember the title of this comedy series. Love Thy Neighbour !!! ❤️
