Why would someone feel the need to judge a random persons life and say "this lifestyle is unattainable for most people" especially when you live an extremely simple, very easily attainable life lmao

please don't beat yourself up too much about little things like negative comments and wet wipes! All that matters is that we try, and I love the way you make minimal-waste seem so casual- not a huge lifestyle change, just simple swaps and logical solutions :) it's so inspiring! on a side note- have you used your safety razor? how did it go? those things are scary man!

Love this topic and totally agree that food prep at home not only makes camping more fun cause it cuts down on the work you have to do at camp but it also sets you up for success in making less waste. Other things I always bring camping is when you use reusables you've got to pack cleaning supplies like a dish towel, scrub brush and some biodegradable soup are musts and I also love having our big 7 gallon reusable jug of water we can have right in our campsite to wash dishes, faces/hands and fill up our reusable water bottles with. Loved this video Alli! :)

Dominique Janine our town has a community compost. They provided 5 gallon buckets that you lined with a paper bag. This meant that we had to use paper bags at the grocery store instead of plastic (we always forget the reusable bags but I don't want to use plastic). The community compost came door to door (on bikes with child trailers) to pick up the full buckets and give a clean bucket. A few times a year, a bucket of soil is given. The fee was $11 a month. Perhaps your community could start a shared compost!

I truly appreciate your candor. I feel as though this lifestyle can seem un-achievable for some but because you are so open and honest about your journey, it makes me feel as though it is attainable because I don't have to be perfect. As long as I am trying to live in a more sustainable way, its ok to make mistakes because I will learn new, more efficient ways for the future. It feels a b it strange to say but I am glad that you showed us the trash you created and reflected on the experience. Loved this video and camping at Yosemite is now on my travel list!

Love hearing your thoughts on this! I've been a big camper all my life and have really struggled trying to decrease the amount of waste we create when camping. About your kale salad - are you able to tolerate Bragg's Liquid Aminos? I avoid it because it's derived from soy and I have a lot of food intolerances myself.

You might be able to find chips in a bulk food store- our bulk food has vegetable chips which I treat myself to once in a while. Obviously you can make your own hummus- depends what you can find at the bulk store. I honestly don't mind hummus that is basically just blended chickpeas with water and lemon. I find I make a lot of 'breakfast' bars up before- thy look like they're the same as yours, just peanut butter (natural, from the machine into my jar), banana, chocolate (I want to switch this to cacao nibs but I'm struggling to find a source), and oats. Plus I sometimes add pea protein which I can also get at the bulk store. I have a sore shoulder so struggle to carry lots of stuff but I'm going hiking for 1 week soon and I'm trying to think of the lightest weight food and equipment I can take. I don't want to end up having to drag my bag because I can't carry it.

Have you ever made your own homemade reusable wipes? Sounds like it would have been a wonderful asset for your trip. You can probably find some KZitem clips on how to, often under something related with kids, but hey us adults can benefit from such things as well. :)

We just got this market in my town that sells trail mix, pretzels, spices, dried foods, etc. in bulk and grinders that fresh grind peanut butter. The containers they have are plastic which are then weighed at the register to calculate cost. This is the first store of this magnitude locally (in my life time). How do I bring my own containers and not pay for their weight? Could I pitch bringing small mason jars and ask the store to deduct the weight? Or am I stuck using plastic or paying for product I'm not receiving?

loved this camping vlog! i really really want to visit Yosemite. don't worry too much about the wipes. i think as long as we do our best to keep waste to a minimum it's not a big deal when stuff comes up. interesting that you can reuse those wipes!! in college I visited a facility that makes nonwoven fabrics for medical and industrial purposes as well as tea bags and it was so interesting and also SO WEIRD!! I think people don't give those wipes another thought but they're filled with bleach and mixes of synthetic fiber waste that you really don't want to be putting on your face/a baby/near you at all.

Thanks for sharing the trash you made! I like the restaurant idea, but you could try to bring your own container or cloth bag or something to a restaurant, or bring some "junkier" snacks from the bulk section in cloth? chip bag - in Canada, we have a bulk store that allows us to use our own jars and containers. Bulk Barn is a chain store that carries big snack brands. maybe there's some health food stores that might have this option around you. I know it's easier to find plantain chips in bulk if you're craving something salty. You can also make your own tortilla chips!

My guess is that some viewers are trying to bring up systemic issues of socio-economic class. (I don't know. I haven't read the specific comments.) I do know racism and residential discrimination, for example, create food deserts. Not everyone lives near natural food stores. And unfortunately, sometimes fast food is cheaper, in the short-term. It means that striving for zero waste should include a broader perspective about economic and racial justice. Maybe you could address these systemic issues too? I'm writing to explain of points someone might be making. I still enjoy your videos for their message and aesthetics. I think you make the topics and methods pretty accessible.

I absolutely agree and I know that there are deep-rooted issues around this topic that aren't being discussed in most forums. I admittedly don't have all the answers.
