I have just complemented my Canon kit with the GH5. I too was hoping to use my old trusty 10-22 on it with my new ultra speed booster! After seeing your video, I went all in and bought the Olympus 7-14, I was so impressed with that piece of glass that I also bought the 40-150! Warning Olympus pros series lenses are beautiful and addictive especially as they also have that fantastic manual clutch so avoiding fly-by wire manual focussing woes. Even though the 10-22 can easily be converted and the aperture appears as 2.5, the 2.8 Olympus 7-14 is far brighter in the actual viewfinder to focus from. I have also hacked my lee filter system to work on it plus Nisi now make a filter holder for it.

Thanks man! So I really didn't have that lens for a long time so I not sure how it would perform filming people. I primarily shot landscapes with it. I think it all boils down to your budget and being able to get the most out of your lens. I still have not purchased that lens - I was convinced to modify my 10-22 and I have been using it with my Zhiyun crane and it works great. There are a few bugs, but overall I've been happy with it. I hope to do my next vlog on it in the near future.

Hey dude, I have the Canon 17-55mm EF-S (APS-C) lens. That little "gasket" thing there, rip it out and your lens will go onto the Metabones no problem. I've been using my lens like that on the Metabones for 2 years now on the GH4, just don't lose it. It pops out and goes back in easy. It's not the solution everybody wants to do, but it was worth it for me anyway. Here is a video of how to do it vimeo.com/102685947

@Seqhael
7 жыл бұрын
I was worried about damaging my lens too, but if you just take your time it is actually quite simple and totally worth it. No issues at all, it mounts just like an EF lens to the Metabones perfectly secure. Just put the part that you pull out in a safe place as I think I lost mine which lol.
@Seqhael

By the way, if you zoom the lens while you're trying to pull out the little piece, it makes room so you can actually stick your finger inside the lens and hook the piece with your finger to pull it out, which makes it a bit easier

On the EFS lenses simply zoom it out, put your finger in it to grasp the plastic ring/cap and gently pull it out. This works on 10 - 22 and 17-55 which are both amazing with the ultra SB and is works well. They do work

Hey you might want to check the glass element inside your speedbooster. Your attempts to mount the EF-S lens could have caused some smudging on the glass. Also Olympus shares the m4/3 mount with Panasonic so both brands are considered native.

Not being able to use filters on the Olympus 7-14 is a huge deal breaker.
Thanks - I have the 10-22mm and 7-14mm. I am switching from my Canons to Panasonic M43. Was about to adapt the 10-22mm to the G9 - but obviously now I will stick with using the 7-14mm. I'm 4 years late to this little rodeo, but no, you don't need an adaptor to mount an Olympus 7-14mm f2.8 lens on a Panasonic m43 or Olympus m43 camera...or any camera with a m43 mount on it. Now that I'm thinking about it, I don't know about the Black Magic cameras with a m43 mount.

So then the f2.8 and the 7 -14mm are doubled for a 35mm equivalent - f.2.8 x2 = f5.6 (in 35mm format equivalent) doesn't sound too great for low light. Can you do some quick footage in lowlight? The lens looks like it has potential, but this would be the deciding factor for me. Thanks! *Also, that's why the Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 Art + .71 Speedbooster is so popular!

Metabones states on there website that the EFS lenses don’t work. I add to that that they don’t fit/work natively, but you can mod them to work perfectly on a metabones speedbooster. I didn’t do it myself but I know people who did it and they are really happy with it. Just google the the lens that you want to mod together with “mod” and metabones and you’ll find enough info to get you started to mod your lens. I definitely know the Canon 10-22mm has a good mod option cause my buddy did this one. Hope this helps
@buffaloeditguy

Thanks Marc! I should have gone to the Metabones site and read up on it. lol A fellow KZitemr also told me about the MOD tip -- but I'm a little heavy handed and I'm afraid to break it. lol. That's why I decided to create this video, so that other buyers could be aware before they go out and buy an EFS and try to use it with the Metabones SB. Thanks again!
@marclafunk9831
7 жыл бұрын
They/People indeed should be aware of that, I totally agree with you, but luckily it only counts for Canon EFS lenses and not the APS-C lenses of other manufactures. I myself have, for wide angle shots, a sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 that fits natively on the SB. I know it’s not the best lens out there, not by a long shot, but because I shoot mostly with other peoples(production homes) or rented gear professionally I only use it in my spare time and for that it’s sufficient enough, especially with the BMPCC-SB. A buddy of mine also mod the Canon EFS 10-18mm, and I have to say that is probably the best bargain you can get out there in combination with a SB for wide angle shots, but what you said, you need to have the confidence to mod it to suit the SB. PS: I’m not sure if it’s true but what I heard is that the reason why metabones doesn't support EFS has to do with the licensing deal they have with Canon. again, I’m not totally sure about this so don’t hold me to this, but I’ve heard that they only licensed the EF mount and not the EFS.

The problem you describe is EF-S mount lenses, which basically only Canon produce. You cannot mount EF-S because they are made to go back into the camera and the back element would protrude into the Speedbooster element. But eh, you can mount the EF-S lens with a regular adapter and it will just be cropped a bit. Check for EF-S compatibility before you buy, but most regular adapters will probably work great.
@buffaloeditguy

Thanks man! That's great information. I think it's important to let viewers know before they go out to buying the Metabones Speedbooster or Canon lenses and think they are all going to be compatible. Fortunately most of my lenses worked great.

buffaloeditguy yes :) maybe update the video title as it isn't a wide angle lens issue but an EF-S issue. If you play around with EF-S it becomes very obvious how far back they move and how they could be dangerous, that's why Speedbooster isn't built with EF-S support. The product page has some more info and gotch'as: www.metabones.com/products/details/mb_spef-m43-bm1

EF-S lenses are APSC lenses by canon. They wont fit metabones. But all other manufacturers have EF lenses, even if they are designed for APSC, they are probably EF mount. So its only canon with their fucked up logic.
