One thing that really struck me while listening to Lee's poetry is what he said about metaphors being a connection between one thing in reality and a psychic idea. I think this is a very apt and poignant way of describing Lee's poetry as a whole: he takes very real, raw, and vulnerable experiences from his past and connects them to larger themes and motifs that his audience can relate to, even if these themes are somewhat obscure.

he ransoms his breath, not for our appreciation, but for sharing his wonderment at true forms found further up the divided line - realities and silences that most will never see on our cave flat screens

I heard this guy read in 1994. It was the same schtick. The nice thing about poetry is that anyone that gives a damn about the poet has no business being at a poetry reading. More matter, less art, therefore, has at least two meanings.

I am fascinated by Li-Young Lee’s thoughts on our dying breath creates a speaker or life. At first I found this very paradoxical, however, I realized that death brings upon life. It would be very interesting if Li-Young were able to fully conceptualize this thought and explore its significance.

Very interesting, his writing style is definitely something that I haven't experienced before. I think it might just be me, but I feel like most all poets talk in the manner that Lee does hahaha.

Bob, the introducer, was funny. He looked apprehensive and did not seem well prepared. Mainly, his introduction consisted of lines from Lee’s poems. The introduction itself was a little long, at least 7 minutes. It was like Bob was trying to sum who Lee’s life and personality without fully introducing Lee, the poet.

The introduction was long and didn’t really hook me so it lost my attention. When Lee came to speak I noticed his attire was dark just like some of the poems he shared. I thought it was very interesting how he said poets all speech is done by exhaling and sees why are they obsessed with death because the medium is the dying breath.

Lee is a great poet. However, I was disappointed with the reading. His manner was too frigid, tone was so mournful, and his demure was too nervous. I just wished that he had read his poems with more vigor, enthusiasm, and life like Maya Angelou’s poetry readings. That would’ve gotten my attention more. Although, I did sense that Lee was a humble poet through his gratitude of applause, this made him likable.

While I liked the work of Lee, I did not find the introducer engaging or enticing. He only confused me about what to expect and I got lost in his muddy explanations. Instead of becoming excited to hear Lee, I only became lost trying to figure out what the man was saying about the poet. His introduction did not offer a clear point. In my eyes, this was a highly unsuccessful introduction and only urged me exit the youtube box. If not for an assignment, I would not have continued watching.
