One of the most innovated, original thinking writer/directors today. Unique in style and substance. M Night's endings always have a uniquely satisfying unpredictable twist at the end ..intelligent plots, original, the characters enthralling. But that's me. Then take a look at his book - I've Been Schooled. Genius. Who today thinks outside the box like this man?

I'm a big Mel Gibson fan. I thought he was excellent as usual in "Signs". There was an eerie unsettling tone throughout the whole movie, and it had some genuine scare scenes. I personally loved the the strong bond the brother and sister shared. Altogether, it worked for me.

I have a theory that Shyamalan was all alone in his basement about 10 years ago when a sledgehammer fell on his head. He didn't know what happened at all, noticed there was a sledgehammer on the floor, picked it up, put it away, and never could say what really happened.

idk...why do you think that? To me, he knows precisely what he's doing. Making movies that he wants to make. He's not a sell-out filmmaker. Nolan makes films he wants to make, and Shyamalan is no exception, regardless of what the majority thinks of his films. Personally, like Nolan's films, I like all of Night's work. I got no problem with even the worst received by critics like The Last Airbender, Lady in the Water, and The Happening.

***** That might be true, but no artist of any sort can improve without constructive criticism and from what I've seen from interviews of this guy, all he does is resort to the "they just don't understand my work, it's too deep for them" argument. It's great that you like his films, but as a director, he's not a good one because he lets his arrogance get in the way which recently has led to him making films that are less than stellar compared to what he's truly capable of. He doesn't seem so bad in this video, but others like that one where he blames the failure of TLA on American critics hating him was just ridiculous.
@mazardeus
10 жыл бұрын
punkgrl325 I totally agree that artists need constructive criticism. Regarding Night, I do not think what he says proves him to be arrogant. He's simply being honest to a likely reality. What people say about his movies actually prove misunderstanding & bias. When those guys review his movies, most of them do not directly reflect the film itself accurately. That is not constructive criticism of his movies.

you cannot watch the Avatar cartoon series, without realizing it is a great show with incredibly profound subliminal messages that teach kids to do good. and then watch his interpretation and think he's a credible director. you dont get worse at your job with the more experience. you just got lucky in the past. plus he has large amounts of money to basically fund any thing he wants which is what he did. in order to direct you really have to love the story. and this guy loved nothing but profit.

This guy is nowhere near as bad as Michael Bay. Signs, The Village, The Happening were fine movies that were critically panned. I don't care what anyone says. He very skillfully created an ambiance of realistic fear. Clint Eastwood made several flops in a row during the early stages in his directing career after initial success. Can this guy write a script like Tarantino or PT Anderson? Hell no. Has he started aiming for box office numbers? Maybe. But I have no doubt this guy has talent.

Bullshit. There is nothing objective about your opinion. The Village was an entertaining and surprising film, but Signs was a masterful movie. You're just off when it comes to those two. Most people will disagree with you on Signs, but many will agree with you on The Village, because of the heavier requirement on the audience to suspend disbelief in that film (like how those people would go unnoticed for years, etc)

Theres a difference between crucifying him and disliking his movies & if it wasn't for his biggest blunder The last airbender I'd feel bad for him...but he just needs to stop making bad movies, & if that means he needs to stop directing, so be it.
