Hope to see some more of these types of hunts! GL & HH

Nice one ! it reminded me of when i was a kid, and my friend and I would magnet fish his Dad's gravel driveway , every nail we found he gave us 5 pence , it was all good until he caught us increasing our chances of finding one by adding a few from his garage.

The first thing you caught looked like a double edged weed cutter, I keep one in my fishing kit. If you had fixed a magnet on both sides of the steel bar you would not need the flotation device, one on top one on the bottom, doesn't matter which way up it lands. Obviously with 2 spread out you stand a better chance of " catching " something, but you could get another 2 magnets and fix them on the underneath. The bottle is going to split as you keep throwing it out.

+Jack Spratt thanks for your comment, if the magnets land upside down they don't pick up as effectively as face down, the bottle might split but it's cheap and easy to replace all the best Paul

I don't see an answer to the question. What would you do if your magnet stuck on something too big for you to pull up? I know things are pretty weightless underwater, but can you actually pull up something big?

The best spot to fish would be anywhere there's a bend in the river, the outside bank towards the end is where metal will begin to stack up.

Great video Paul and the first magnet fishing video I have ever watched. That's a great idea with adding some buoyancy to keep the magnets in the correct position , and there were some interesting finds. I hope you upload some more videos. Regards Bob

Thanks Bob, I watched a few peoples builds and thought they weren't quite right as the catching area on a single magnet is about 10cm whereas mine covers over a foot so fingers crossed next time I'm out I'll get something decent. It's good fun, you should try it all the best Paul

The sides of our freeways are nasty too. I was watching Deep Digger Dan he went to Scotland and lived there a month camping. He was showing all the trash on the sides of the roads, and there is nothing but beauty all around except the garbage.
