'who cares about the team give him HIS money'. without the team he is NOTHING!! he wanted a good deal for him AND the team so they can keep the weapons around him and keep the team competitive (and keep the D just above average). too many teams have been the 'we are always close but never quite get there' team because the pay some huge salary to one or two players who demand "their money" and thus can't get/keep the additional players to round out the team to make it a championship team. Mahomes didn't want that. He is smart enough to know he NEEDS those other players to get the team to more SB's.

You also have to pay the other weapons surrounding Mahomes. This is a team friendly contract. I am surprised they are discussing only his contract and why it is or isn't a good deal for ONLY Mahomes and not the bigger picture as a TEAM. If those weapons end up leaving, you can for sure say it might be more challenging to get to the SB. Prime example is Brady last year with the Patriots. Brady didn't have the weapons surrounding him as he used to have. I applaud the contract Mahomes took as it might have allowed cap space for his other teamates to still get paid if/when they renew.

@@cityhawk I am an American and money is always important to everyone as everyone has bills to pay. No matter what, Mahomes is set for life, he doesn't have to worry as much for money now if he doesn't live beyond his means. He needs to only worry about staying healthy, continue having the player weapons surrounding him, and have decent coaches supporting him. This is a TEAM sport and Mahomes can't get to the big game by himself. So, yes money is important, but so is building a dynasty and legacy to his name. To do this, he has to have elite players surrounding him as well. Once Salary Cap increases, it allows more room and hopefully enough space to hold some key players. I doubt it will secure all elite players active now when their contract expires, but we shall see once those players are also looking for a big $ contract.

Time will tell how this deal will hash-out. Has anyone considered how far his dollars would go in KC as opposed to some other larger market? What is $63 million comparable in $$$ in NY, LA, or San Fran (if those cities survive a year).

Going to the chiropractor for an adjustment, after shaking my head so hard listening to these two clowns. Neither did squat in the league, and they criticize a guy it seems the biggest contract in American pro sports history, while at the same time NOT breaking the financial back of his team. The ridiculous statement that this contract doesn’t give him financial security is the most outlandish thought. Let’s just forget the extension for a moment. His rookie contract is worth six times the lifetime earning of the average American. The minimum he can earn with the extension is 21 times lifetime earning of the average American. I don’t think he’s going to go hungry. Really pathetic analysis, guys.

Mahomes had team in mind when signing this deal. People had been saying he should take a team friendly deal before this, now that he he has, he is still criticized. Regardeless, it's the biggest contract in all of sports history. What is the issue exactly?

I believe mahomes wanted to allow the team to bring in talent (he trusts Reid and Veach to actually surround him with talent unlike Brady with Bill). This also allows him to grab headlines with a record breaking deal even if it is short lived. Smart all around. It’s an L if you are only concerned with mahomes getting paid more than everyone else year to year. It’s a huge W if you concerned with Super Bowl runs moving forward which is clearly mahomes number 1 priority. And it’s still half a bill deal. He not going for want anytime soon.

Being in KC, this is contract is awesome. Patrick Mahomes always said he wanted to stay here and build a dynasty. He got everything he wanted and more. He will have a greater say in the organization with the amount of money that is due to him. What’s interesting about his contract are the 2 year rolling guarantees and the over 150 mil injury guarantees.

Glad he pointed out that despite all the "we have to protect the quarterback" talk and rule changes they put in, the QB position really had the least amount of injuries out of all the positions outside of the kickers. And it was really about keeping the more marketable players that the NFL wanted to protect on the filed as much as they could. Marcellus also makes a good point about his former agent. But as pointed out in other comments, Mahomes could be putting more weight on the ability for the team to sign other players to maintain the talent base for them to keep winning championships. Because it's inevitable that after you win a championship, it gets more expensive. Many teams in the past have made the mistake that after winning, they dump all the money on the QB because the qB gets all the advertisement, everyone thinks it's the hardest position to play, and if a team wins it's all because of the qb and if they lose then it's because of everyone else. But they let everything else about the team decline and have trouble building it back up because they either can't get anybody or can't entice anybody to come to the team.

These two have not understood how a real business is run and I am talking about a business is successful for a long term in history. Marcellus still spewing jealous garbage out towards Patrick Mahomes. He has a mini me to throw up nonsense from his mouth, as well. Instead of propping people up, you tear them down. Between his analysis and Mangini I don't know how these two jokers have jobs. No contract ever lasts it's entire length. Almost every player gets greedy and see's the numbers get higher and they "have to get theirs" So it will be restructured before it's over anyway, because of the other greedy players. He has said from the start that he wants to do what's best for everyone involved. Which thankfully for us Chiefs fans isn't what you guys say is "smart"

Im sorry but lets just lay this out here Emmanuel Acho Career NFL statistics (3 seasons) Total tackles: 33 Sacks: 0.0 Forced fumbles: 0 Fumble recoveries: 0 Interceptions: 0 Career Highlights: NONE Marcellus Wiley (10 Seasons) Career NFL statistics Tackles: 324 Sacks: 44 Interceptions: 2 Forced fumbles: 14 Career Highlights: Pro Bowl (2001) , Second-team All-Pro (2001) Patrick Mahomes Career NFL statistics as of 2019 (3 seasons in) TD-INT: 76-18 Passing yards: 9,412 Completion percentage: 65.9 Passer rating: 108.9 Career Highlights: Super Bowl champion (LIV) Super Bowl MVP (LIV) 2× Pro Bowl (2018, 2019) First-team All-Pro (2018) NFL Most Valuable Player (2018) NFL Offensive Player of the Year (2018) NFL passing touchdowns leader (2018) Bert Bell Award (2018) Sammy Baugh Trophy (2016) Second-team All-Big 12 (2016) FBS passing yards leader (2016) MaxPreps Male Athlete of the Year (2013) So my point here is Mahomes has accomplished more in 3 season than these 2 have in combined 13 seasons. He understands winning. And he understands to continue winning he doesnt need to be greedy for every penny he can get so that the Chiefs can still have money to spend on other players. What good is making $55 - $60 million a year if your team is going 3-13 because you have no help around you.
