Nice build-I like the trigger set up. One thing I did was cover the metal plate with thin plywood. I started catching more stuff then. Thanks for taking the time to make a video.

Great trap, and like your truck too! I made a smaller version of the trap with a 1/4" thick steel door which I drilled a lot of holes in to get it to the correct weight for trigger sensitivity. Caught a chipmunk with it and released him elsewhere. Other traps I tried did not work. This one is reliable! You get one chance - & if the trap failes - the critters get wary of it and you must go to plan "B". Best one I've seen.

May be a good idea to round off the corners of the sheet metal door so they do not cut into the PVC should the door drop unevenly repeatedly and cut into the PVC causing binding.

I was just wondering what stops a raccoon from scratching the door to get out. It seems that if they go at it they may get the door up to get out. Perhaps a latch or something at the top of the door that falls went tripped. Just an idea. And I do like truck and it's color. I wish my Chevy Suburban 4x4 was that color of red. Forest green makes me look like a Forest Ranger on patrol. Keep the vids coming. Well done.

It was a nice build but i just seen a video of the same build and the racoon blew right out and through the door. The PVC pipe maybe smooth for the door but not strong enough. When I build mine I'm going to support it with a strip of that decking board behind the PVC.

I think he said it was for squirrels and smaller animals. I can't see it surviving a raccoon. The trip wire would probably need to be replaced every time you had one in the trap and I don't think the door would keep the average raccoon in there for long.

Looks like a nice sturdy trap. My only concern would be with the door. That metal isn't very thick and a raccoon might be able to bend it or hit it hard enough to break the PVC guides (I have had raccoons tear apart the doors and back walls of expensive live catch traps). I would recommend that you put 2 small strips of wood on either side of the bottom of the door so that the animal can't get under the door and open it (could use the same system for guides), and something a little thicker might be a little more secure.

Raccoon will work the door and lift it and get out. Need a latch on top. Half round pvc is too weak. Trap will be really bloody if it actually holds an animal and you get to dispatch it. Poor trap.
