Hi Jennifer, All I can say is Wow. I have watched perhaps 5 or so of your videos now and not only are they amazing in regard to teaching, instruction, and production values but I've realized that there is something bigger to you. You remind me of some titanic figures: Richard Proennecke, Sir David Attenborough, Bob Ross, Julia Child, and of course Mr. Rogers. All of these people brought their viewers on journeys of discovery and learning. When I watched each one of them, I felt as though he or she were talking directly to me and that I was special, that there was nothing else in the world that I should be doing but listening and learning at that moment and for however long I watched. You also achieve this with a genuine thoughtful approach and a kindness that makes it through the KZitem screen. Jennifer Maker comes at very important moment in our time. During this time of uncertainty with parents stretched so thinly, stressed, concerned and afraid, and with families suffering the effects of school lock down, so many children have been left adrift in a sea of instability. I wonder if you would ever consider creating some short videos for Children? I remember when I would watch Mr. Rogers as a child. I was held captivated by his kind demeanor and the short adventures that he would bring me on to meet new people and characters on his show. Tying my sneakers was monumental but Mr. Rogers helped me. Mr. Rogers provided a safe haven for children. Mr. Rogers was on my side. I think that you could do the same. He had his icon red sweater and blue sneakers, you have your wonderful aprons - I have noticed them! Anyway, what do I know, but I think that if you made a craft video for children (something as simple as cutting out paper figures with little girl/boy scissors), with your kind hearted narration.... well, I think that you would become as important as Mr. Rogers. And I think that you would break the Internet. I wish you all the success in the world and I will be watching more of your videos. Thank you for all you do!

Jamie, I am humbled by your comment! What a sweet and thoughtful thing to write to me. THANK YOU! I also adored Mister Rogers and when I first began making videos here on KZitem a little over three years ago, he was the first thought in my head and I looked to his own programs for inspiration. He was likely the first person who taught me in this way as a child (ie, a broadcast video), which is why I thought of him when it was my turn to teach others in a similar way. KZitem is today's PBS in many ways. :) And while I have thought many times of specifically teaching children, I continue to choose to primarily teach adults instead. But I try to teach and guide the INNER CHILD in adults. I don't say this out loud, but this indeed is my focus. Adults are just big kids, after all, and in many ways I am just as careful in how I teach adults as I would be with how I teach kids -- using intentional, non-confusing words and techniques that are clear and easy to understand and learn, and full of positive messages. And as it turns out, children also watch my videos and I love that. I've met many children who watch my channel -- I met one just the other day and it was such a treat! And because I am already talking to the inner child in adults in my videos, I also think this makes me able to talk to children like I would talk to an adult and give them the same respect they deserve. Thank you again, Jamie, for the wonderful note! And thank you for watching my videos! It brings me great joy to know I am helping others do more, be more, and craft a life they love.

I am going to be painting on hardboard paneling and then once it is dry adding the stenciled embellishment over the solid color. Is the process you highlight limited to just small stencils? Hi, I really like your videos and will Watch a lot more of them. I tried making the stencil last night with craft plastic you recommended. I tried with the 4X setting and most of the stencil did not cut out. So i tried it with 6X. The 6X cut out alot more of the stencil and onto the mat in a lot places. But there were still places that did not cut out completely. I used the Fine point blade on my brand new Maker 3 (have only cut out a few cardstock pieces before this). So i dont think the blade could be dull yet. I was not using your files, I used design space with an image i had. Would the quality of the image make this difference? Would appreciate any feedback. Great video! Thank you! Two quick questions: 1) I watched the single use vinyl stencil video also. In that one, you seemed to paint the modpoge on the open spaces that would eventually get my paint. In this one, it looked like you started the same way, but on the big M in the middle and maybe some other leaves, maybe you only did the perimeter of the open spaces? Or it might be an illusion as modpodge was drying. 2) I'm going to use the stencil on one of those wood slice ornaments (over and over for party favors) not the kind with bark edges, just the simpler ones. Will I need to apply that tacky spray every time? Any other tips for doing a whole bunch of something? TIA!!

This is what I found out in the internet. Dip a cotton swab into an acetone-based nail polish remover. Rub the cotton swab over the adhesive until the adhesive disappears. Change cotton swabs frequently as the acetone pulls the adhesive off the painted wood surface. Test it on a very small section first to see if it works without damaging anything.

@@JenniferMaker Hi. It is towards the end of the video when you are in the Cricut Design space. You are on the number 0 in the Established section and you made a little cut? Does that help?

Awesome idea I was working with the vinyl but it's time-consuming and I need something a bit straightforward on the garment. Now, I am going to trial and error with a drawing design I converted to an svg. Thank you!

If you are painting, yes!! The stencils will work on any surface that they can adhere to.

I ordered al the supplies just as you listed and set the custom cutting to your settings. I'm using the Explorer Air 2. I'm using a brand new green sticky mat. The plastic adheres very well and tight. 350 is the maximum cut pressure. Your setting has multi-cut set to 4. The blade will not cut completely through the plastic making it impossible to punch out. I tried upping the multi-cut to 6. I've tried setting pressure to "more," still with no difference in results. Not sure what else to do???!!!! Suggestions?

Hi wbd1213! Keep in mind, the settings I use are the settings that work for my machine and blade condition. Try going up a setting or two and cut out a 1-inch diameter circle till you get the setting that works for your machine.

Will the craft plastic work with cricut explore?

As long as it is thin enough for what the Cricut can cut I would think it will work.

I don’t have the option for custom material

All the new Cricut’s have that option. If you have the Air 2 put your dial on custom to have many more cutting options.

any tips for stenciling on paper? i’ve had issues with bleeding and am worried to use the adhesive on paper because i don’t want the paper to rip. any ideas?
@JenniferMaker

Try a dome shaped brush because less of the brush will touch the paper to help stop bleeding. Use acrylic paint not watered down with a dry brush.

Hi Jennifer, I adore you and really appreciate your content! I encountered two challenges with this project that I'm hoping you or one of your followers can help me to resolve. #1. I ordered all of the supplies you recommended and adjusted my material settings but the stencil wasn't a clean cut. Some letters stuck the mat and others wouldn't which resulted in tears and fraying. I tried swapping out the blade and running it through the machine twice. The double run-through helped but it still wasn't great. #2. The spray adhesive left a residue on the wood I'm using. What's the best way to remove? Thanks again!

Try a test cut first and use more pressure. See what works best for your machine which they all can slightly vary. This is what I got off of the internet for the residue. There should be something helpful there. Gently Scrape: Use a plastic or wooden scraper to gently scrape off as much of the adhesive residue as possible. Be careful not to scratch the wood's surface. Heat and Peel: If the residue is still sticky, you can try using heat to soften it. Use a hair dryer or a heat gun on low heat to warm up the residue. Once it's soft, try peeling it off using your fingernail or a plastic scraper. Rubbing Alcohol: Dampen a clean cloth or cotton ball with isopropyl rubbing alcohol (preferably 70% or higher) and gently rub the adhesive residue. Test this method on a small, inconspicuous area of the wood first to make sure it doesn't damage the finish. Mineral Spirits or Acetone: If the adhesive is particularly stubborn, you can try using mineral spirits or acetone. Apply a small amount of the solvent to a clean cloth and gently rub the residue. Again, test this method on a hidden area first to avoid damaging the wood's finish. Commercial Adhesive Removers: There are adhesive removers available in the market that are specifically designed to remove sticky residues. Read and follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully. Soap and Water: For water-based adhesives, you can try using a mixture of mild dish soap and warm water. Dampen a cloth with the soapy water and gently rub the residue. Always perform a spot test!

You will not be able to get a good seal with this as glassware is curved. Permanent vinyl works great to get a good seal for your image. jennifermaker.com/how-to-etch-glass-vinyl-cricut/

Hi Jennifer, just wondering can I cut cricut acetate sheet and use it as a stencil? Have you tried this before, have you had any success? 2) Also just to confirm is Cricut stencil roll not reusable? So is it like removable vinyl, once the painting is done, we peel the stencil and discard it, correct? Thank you ♥️
@JenniferMaker

Yes, you can use acetate as a stencil. Cricut Stencil Vinyl is repositionable and reusable, too providing that you are carful with it.
