Something I do with my Red Mage but I wish I had trained myself with my healers is to put all spells with cast times on the dpad, since you have to lift your thumb off the left stick (movement) to press the dpad (as you can't move while casting) Also, idk how useful this is but I have a shared hotbar for all of the healer rez actions and role actions, as well as rarely used spells like sleep. Declutters my hotbars quite a bit

I forgot to mention where you could put your rez, even grouping them by how frequently you would use said spells would help! Thanks for this one:D

You can create focus target macros and bind them to L3 and R3. I have L3 to assign my target to focus target and R3 to switch target to focus target. At the start of a duty, I’ll L3 my tank. And at any time in the duty, I can just R3 to target them. Really convenient because no matter where I’m looking, I can easily target my tank.

wow all this time i never knew trigger + bumpers exclusively scrolled through enemies and always assumed i had to use left/right on dpad. thank you for not making me dread playing healer in raids anymore on a controller

I feel it's also worth noting that controller makes it absurdly easy to "soft target" everyone. If you're attacking an enemy and you highlight a player and don't hit X/A, but instead just cast your heal, you'll stay targeted to the enemy. The same applies if your tank pulls an extra large group, heal them, soft target an enemy for a single aoe and you're immediately right back to healing.

I don't get it, could you explain more? How do I keep my enemy targeted but heal my tank?

@@dinohobbyKoS898 On controller, while you're targeting the enemy, use up and down on the D-Pad to highlight your tank in the party menu, but do not hit the "select/action" button (X on PS5), just use your heal. For me that's R2 + triangle. You should cast your heal on your tank, but maintain your targeting on your enemy. so you can get right back into DPS-ing. :) You can see me do this here. At around 2:24 I put a fairy regen on the tank but never drop my target on the boss: kzitem.info/news/bejne/km2Pp6CbfKeSlYYsi=95acBnagV7xpmjCI&t=140

I wish targeting worked based on character line of sight not on camera... with legacy you can flick stick your character instantly in any direction, but you keep a sane camera control

Who needs targeting enemies... Although I kind of like the idea

One optimization I was thinking for myself but I could see it working for you as well is this: The way movement works, the left stick is important,so left thumb needs to be as much as possible on top of the LS. At the same time though, healers have a couple of hard casts where, movement is naturally not necessery. So I feel like putting hard cast spells on either LB or RB + D-pad makes sense cause its that times that you dont need your left thumb to move. Ofc that also leaves the right thumb (for buttons ABXY) available for spells that are instant and they can be performed while moving!

Been thinking about trying this on my ps5. should i just buy base game or buy endwalkers as well. I played on pc about 2 years ago and I was tanking and enjoyed it but ive had the desire to heal for a while now.
