I absolutely love how waves defines concepts like eqs and harmonic exciters in their videos. I feel like it's really important to set a clear first impression for a viewer/student who is learning these things for the first time and waves is nailing it. Thanks for being great waves :).

funny enough, I think the "Exciter War" is the next big thing after the loudness war. Major news broadcasters sound like they started cranking up the settings when learning to "fix" audio from interviews with people wearing masks, but then left the settings in place. You couldn't speak as spitty, chirpy, hissy and punchy as these people sound after the audio has been mangled if you tried.

I use it on the Mixbus before compression, specially because i like mixing in the most organic way, not overprocessing sounds. What i find is that the whole mix suddenly have a floor to step on, everything kind of gets it's place. Tell me if this happens to you.

@@levondarratt787 Yes, there were plugins in 1997. My first set was DSP-FX from Power Technology, and I was running it through Windows '95 on a 486. The audio program was called Cool Edit; a program created by Syntrillium Software which was acquired by Adobe and renamed Adobe Audition.

Cool, but basically it's what I've been using the Waves Vitamin for, except this isn't multiband nor does it have the spread feature.
@roflolmayopter

Very different tonal quality to vitamin. I understand what you're getting at, but very different use cases for both these plugins. Vitamin is fantastic for enhancing the harmonic content of a soundsource, for example adding a bit more sparkle and brilliance to the high end of a synth or overhead mics. Aphex can achieve this too but like you said, with a much broader stroke. The big difference is that Aphex can literally create and add frequencies and harmonics that weren't there to begin with in a really natural way. I could straight up lowpass a kick drum, completely killing everything above 300hz, slap Aphex on and get a nice usable crispy high-end back. Do the same thing with vitamin and no matter how high you slam those top end faders, nothing is gonna happen because vitamin can't work on frequencies that aren't there. That's the difference, vitamin is basically multiband distortion, and Aphex is an exciter

can't really tell the difference because the Before and After are not both starting at the same time frame in each of the samples. They should be identical audio starts, not in the middle. The brain does not see much contrast when the information is changing, so best to start the Before and After at time 0, for each sample track, to hear the difference.
