I love the way you explains your approach… you didn’t just did it and gave us the result, you took us on the journey not knowing how the results would sound. This is what is so great about art, another person may not see it (hear it) as the artist but as long as there is an emotional response the art has been a success. Thanks a lot.

Love the band pass filter use on the slap delay. A great, focused mid-range sound.

Oh that vocal delay setup is very very nice. It's like in cooking when you nail right amount of spice without losing the umami deliciousness. I reckon I can get something like this happening on a DiGiCo console live as well too. Very cool.

You are so ready for Melda's MXXX! I just posted a video on my channel that I think you'll find interesting... recreating an "Aural Exciter" vocal enhancer was one of my first projects - I've actually taken it much further, but it would have been a bit too much for non MXXX users.

By harmonic generatior do you just mean saturation like even or odd harmonics? Or an actual tone generator? I assume the first option, but I read that the dbx subsynth uses tone generation instead So I just want to make sure I’m understanding what your talking about.
@panorama_mastering
Жыл бұрын
My understanding of that wording is that it's quite literal; a processor that introduces harmonics; 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc even, odd, etc based on the frequency of the input;

Aphex exciter is a wierd unit and the plugins are the only emulations that don't get ANYWHERE near. Like nowhere. I compared the waves and the audiothing type B to an 80's aphex I bought and no matter what I did the plugins couldnt do the aphex sound. Maybe its extremely hard in plugins to do the exciter trick or the devs just aren't good enough but interesting how it's only been attempted twice to my knowledge 🤔

Yeap; I think it's also a case of the fundamentals which are laid out in the patent for the exciter can be implimented / adapted differently from one design to the next; Type B, Type C, C2 etc etc. So the Aphex Exciter is more of a "process" of chain than a "sound" like say the SSL Consoles;

@@panorama_mastering I dunno the ins and outs of it but I remember reading that the type B & type C werent all that different. The cheaper re-release were supposedly very different to the originals though which were loan only if I recall. I would have thought the plugins would have been at least ball park but not even close for whatever reason. And I sat for hours tweaking. What's funniest is that the hardware is now the price of the plugins haha I think I only got like £60-70 when I sold it on so its genuinely like the easiest analog effect to get your hands on these day's. And it was stereo as well if I recall 🤔

Yea; it's very interesting in my research waves documented with another engineer during R&D that they based it off a very old 403/402 model; I think the crux of the way the patent was written; which is the way I'm finding a lot of patents in DSP are written is that it lays out the general foundation / structure so there is flexibility in it's interpretation for companies to manoeuvre around and update their designs accordingly without having to re-write patent after patent; A great example of this is in the IRC patent; iZotope have been able to build various other modes and styles of limiting into subsequent releases since it's first inception without the need to rewrite the specifics of the technology because the framework is there and laid out; I think it's a great lesson in good design for myself at least to understand the principles/building blocks of these tools and learn what aspects of them make them unique; hence the last passage of this video me pushing myself to build my own processor with some learnt fundementals from that patent;

@@panorama_mastering The problem is they file a patent when you are at point A in the design. Now if you continue to tweak the device you can't file for another patent unless you have created another new device and if you are simply making a minor evolution of the original device you patented you can't get another one and don't need another one because you first patent will still work to keep others from using your original idea without your license. This isn't a new problem, it happens with lots of patented things which when they hit the market are not exactly what they where when they were first patented. Patents are a perfect recipe they are more like a description of the first cake the chef made but the chef will continue to tweak that cake recipe.
