When you mentioned aircraft and city sounds I thought about my place. I hired the best company in the country to build this little corner of mine where I work, and I'm living right under the ILS of runway 34R of Tokyo Haneda International airport. From 3pm to 7 pm planes cross right above my place at 1000 feet and I can't hear a single noise. As for gear I use Genelec Moniors, UA610mk2, Solid State Logic Alpha VDH pre, HD OMNI, HD I/O 16 in 16 out (analog and digital), a Distressor, Neumann, Sennheiser, AT, Sure mics, my old friend Yahama O1V96 that servers as a controller and as 8 extra ADAT if I need to, I have couple of old friends of mine I've been using forever, live a Yamaha REV500 Rev unit (it's really amazing, for reals), a Motif Keyboard, extra EQs, and probably an 1174 just because I saw you had one so I just feel the urge... My outlets are all hospital grade, the power grid runs independently from the house, the general isolation transceiver is located somewhere else, and I have 3 types of outlets (white ones for 100V 60Hz, red ones for 117V 60Hz and a another that's just for non-audio equipment). I tend to mix hybrid whenever I can, and the client is not the type of guy who would ask you for 2000 recalls... It's great to see a channel like yours. I tend to like people with less followers, or at least when they begin, because it feels more real. It's like I want this channel to grow but on the other side I want to keep it like a little secret... So you just got a new subscriber. Greetings from Tokyo! (I hate Tokyo, I just moved 5 years ago after 18 years living in Osaka. Osaka really rocks, but saying you live in Tokyo gives you some kind of stupid empty status. lol)

Nice Video. Here in Brazil the equipments are veeery expensive. So, you have to dancing according the music and try doing the best using everything in the box. of course some analog gears have a "spice" different. But when you realize that the price these gears is higher than what you earn making soundtrack, you just give up investing. I think that knowledge is more important than gears. on other hand is so pleasant touch real knobs....

I’m mainly an in the box guy. As for my guitars I used to be all mic and cab, and then moved to the Captor X, and now I’m actually using a fractal and it’s been great! Can I hear a difference?… yes… but it’s so minuscule that most people wouldn’t be able to tell, so I’ve been sticking with it to make my workflow super easy. Cool to hear you mention Tommee, he’s a good friend of mine!

@jordanfinn1123 thanks for the comment. I agree of course there is a difference but it is more a color to me. Sure there is a little more “air” or “space” to a dry tone mic’ed but once you start mixing and adding effects one would be hard pressed to tell the difference in sound. Now feel for the player for me is totally different. Difference is much larger there in my opinion but again workflow is also important. It something works and you are productive that is a major factor. Man Tommee is so talented! Seems like an amazing guy as well! My wife and I went to “The Birth Of A King” show at the Opry and WOW what a show!

Yes, I fully agree with that. And yes, Tommee and I went to college together back in Michigan. He went the production route and I went like like gigging route, but I’m working on trying to go more of the production route now to be home more with my wife and son. But he and I get together a few times a year to catch up. And yea, that’s a great concert!

The only outboard gear I have is a Studiolive 32 channel mixer. I also have a bunch of mics but for guitar sounds, I use a Headrush 100 percent of the time! I don’t have the space or money for lots of amps. I also have a Roland TD17 drum kit that I use with ez drummer. Most of the stuff you see in videos is just nonsense for cork sniffers! KZitemrs need to make videos, so they tend to make big deals out of little things. When I release my music, no one ever says “oh, that sounds like an amp modeller” or, “oh, I hear you used electric drums”. Nope, that’s because 99 percent of the music consuming public wouldn’t know the difference and don’t care! The important thing is the song and the talent, it doesn’t matter what you use to make it. Just make it!

Thanks for watching! I agree that 100% great results can be had in the hands of a capable user with all in the box and or modelers. I do however use a few pieces of particular outboard gear and real amps because for me it is quicker and more creative. At the end of the day that is most important and to yourpoint not how you got there. Everyone's path is different. Continue to be creative with what you have and grow your talent. Only add gear as you prefer and can afford. Song and talent will always be the most important. Thanks again for commenting! 👍

I agree 100% about flow and vibe. If I can't get a vibe going for a song I lose interest. If I am interrupted while writing, I lose the vibe and it is a nightmare to get back. As for your questions. I am all in the box. Have been since 2016. I would like some preamps, reactive load boxes, outboard compressors but, No space and really not in the budget. So, in the box works just fine for now. Keep the great videos coming!

I ran into your channel thanks to that Avid being sold video you posted recently and subscribed ever since. Nowadays is so difficult to determine what is being pro vs what isn’t and I think that’s a good think cause it makes us work harder and smarter to get to a much better position if we really want to. As far as what I’m using is all in the box, using Pro Tools Studio and a MacBook Pro 16” M1 Max and for now it’s been plenty for my audio needs. I don’t have the volume of work I’d love to have but I’m working my way through it. Thank you for sharing your perspective on this matter as I personally believe it truly is important to do so.

Thanks for watching, your comment and subscribing! Pro Tools Studio and a laptop with a handful of plugins is all you need to get results. I really might do another video on the importance of practice and challenging yourself to continually get better. Finding a fun and rewarding way to challenge yourself. Making music should be fun first and foremost.

"Pro" doesn´t mean so much in my book. I care about what comes out of our work. Big studios produce trash everyday and someone at their little bedroom can make a great record. They still try to use money to create a false idea of status, but the truth is that all the money and gear in the world can´t make a real special thing without the heart. The bigger things can grow in the littlest places.

Great video! Nice to hear that the room doesn’t have to be amazing to get pro results. I just play guitar through a Suhr Reactive Load into plugins at the moment, but I’m currently working on getting my first 4x12 cab and running that through some mic pres, an 1176, and some kind of Pultec-ish EQ. Do you like tracking a guitar cab through your 1176, or nah?
@ChrisJustice
Жыл бұрын
Thanks! The room plays a factor in some things but there are ways to minimize them. That might be some good content! hmmm. I do run the cab mic through the 1176 sometimes and not compress or just a bit if it is a cleaner sound. I am really impressed with the Warm audio compared to my real Neve. I would recommend them. Heritage Audio also makes great Neve clones. I love Pultec's. Honestly that is next for me. Thanks for watching and your comment!

What do you think about the Kaotica Eyeball for your vocal mic. Scam or real?
@ChrisJustice
Жыл бұрын
Hmmm I have never tried one or seen one in person. Just looked it up. Very interesting! I might have to buy and try. Maybe do a video on it? I can say that in the past I have generally not been a fan of absorption too close to a vocal mic like 1 foot or closer. I like a little bit of air moving around the mic. I have used a few mic stands and moving blankets before in a pinch even with good results to limit unwanted reflections and room size in a vocal take.
