Thanks for the tutorial. It helped me learned exactly what I needed to know to make tire treads.

The trick with the features on a circular pattern is awesome. Didn't know that was possible.

I recommend putting a slight V profile in your rims, and the inverse of that profile in your tires. Your current design slowly walk itself off, while with a V-profile the tires will always be nudged back to the center. I have some pictures if you like. They do require a fair bit of force to pull the tire over the rim. I should revisit printed tires, I wrote them off some time ago because they kept slipping, but that's probably because I tried putting a lot of power through a very unagressive tread.

Good idea on the V profile. I didn't show it on the video but I do have a ridge in the middle of the tire that goes into a groove on the wheel to lock it in place. I'll see how well this works and if it still slips off I may try your V profile idea.

Your first shown updated design project had a lot more steps! Looks like you have a band in the middle inside, and a couple more filets 😀

Good eye Dave. Yes, the design does have a band in the middle that goes into a groove on the wheel to lock it in place. I wanted to keep the video short so I kept the focus just on the design of the treads.

I would think a slick tire would give you better traction on a smooth surface. By adding the treads you are decreasing the contact patch with the floor. BTW, I love your teaching style and all your F360 videos, I've learned so much from them.

Funny, as I tried to reproduce this on my first attempt, I had to sketch all sides ( fully enclose) the tread pattern on the projected plane before I could select it to extrude-to-object. The next time I made the offset it worked. Gah! If not at first....eventually will do I suppose. Will print one in PLA just for fun. Thanks my friend. Looking forward to the Robot under 1 lb

When you project the body into the sketch it should have projected the sides. I'm guessing this is where something went wrong for you.

you might want to try them with no fillets on the tread, I think you will get much better traction, I know on a dirt bike as soon as the tire looses that sharp edge the traction goes away quickly.

Yes very true, same with 4x4 offroading
