This is gr8!!!!! No, I’m not a fantasy gamer. No, I’m not a cosplayer. No, I’m not looking for Halloween costume ideas. I am a mom trying to help her ‘little angel’ with a school project. Each kid picks a character and the more details, including dressing like said character, the more points they can earn. My little darling chose the goddess of war Athena. In addition to weapons, apparently she has a ‘kick-a’ helmet. IMO, yours is the closest-in-design DIY version that a non-artist person like myself can try and not feel like an idiot just tracing the templates you provided. And, it doesn’t lock the user in designing and applying the same decorations or colors. Thank you. Now, if I can just get her to ‘lock in’ on 2 colors for it, since rainbow colors were ‘not the norm’ for war helmets.

@@MuchProps I will do that. BTW….. Before I have my 1st of probably many ‘senior moments’ that that are bound to occur while I attempt this, I have a few ?’s. 1. Is there a way for making the curves/rounded bits without buying a heat gun that I would only be using on this 1 project? 2. Have you made a spear and a shield from the same era and do you have a templates for the spear blade/shield? I’ve been searching for, and found a few spear and shield vids that seem adequate, but there doesn’t seem to be enough ‘detail’ shown in those vids like yours. They mention things that could be helpful, but they don’t show it. Also, even if I were so inclined to ‘burn in’ some of their ‘overtly detailed designs’, no1else bothered to mention the dangers about the toxic odors like you did.
@MuchProps
2 жыл бұрын
@@ChelleD22 I will try to help: 1. The heat gun does help a lot but you should be able to do it without. You may notice the seamlines pull apart a little. The good thing about these types of helmets, you can cover any rough spots on the base helmet with details. 2. I have never made a spear or shield from that Era but there are lot of guys out there that have. Check Odin Makes, SKS, Punished Props, Lost Wax, Evil Ted and Cosplay Apprentice. All are super knowledgeable and might have something that would work. And an alternative to burning in, you could glue on stuff instead. You can buy precut letters at the hobby store or fill fondant molds with hot glue for details. I hate that others don't point out the safety issues

@@MuchProps I traced the templates for the helmet and I already see a way to ‘tweak’ the ‘mohawk’. I caught on that the pattern, once traced onto the foam, has to be cut inside the boarder line. @@aaron527 i responded to your question 2 days ago when you asked. Here it is again: Once you download the PDF and open it up, there will be the option to print. If you go to more settings, you will see an option titled "Scale", click the drop down menu beside it and select custom. Then you can reduce the size of all the parts at one time. My head is 24 inches around, which is what the helmet is built for. Measure the biggest part of your kid's head to find the comparison of size. My friend Cosplay Apprentice has this nifty little calculator on his website, www.cosplayapprentice.com/Cosplay%20Calculators/cosplay-pattern-scaling-calculator , that you can plug my number and your number in to get the scale %. I would add 1 or 2 percent to whatever it shoots out to be safe.

Have you heard any feedback about the pattern for the plume being a little too large to fit in the holder. I’m at that point and I chopped about 3/4 of an inch off the end of the plume to get it to fit and one side still seems to pop out of place once I get the other end in. So far, though it’s working out real well. My problem is probably just user error though. Thanks for making it available.

did the paint harden the foam or what did you use so it isnt so flimsy
@MuchProps
4 ай бұрын
No, the paint doesn't harden the foam. An EVA foam helmet is a bit flimsy. If you want to stiffen it up on the edges, you could always glue a support wire on the inside and then add some thin EVA to cover it up. You could also add a few layers of Mod Podge before you spray paint to stiffen it a little. Another option if you want it super rigid is to add Worbla to the outside surfaces. Or get denser EVA. There are lots of options. Hope this helps

All of my templates are built to accommodate my head. I have a relatively large noggin, at about 24 inches around. You might have to make adjustments due to the different material. Don't know how well my template will work when making it out of steel. Would love to see it when you are don't though.

Hi, great vid. Great result! You can use a pop screen for your mic using nylon leggings and a knitting ring. Keep up the great work!

thanks. Got one and it really has helped. Doesn't sound like I am about to bust out my speakers now when I hit those Ps and Ts.

I really want to make this for Halloween this year, I'm just worried because I have a massive head. Like no hats will fit me. Any advice on how I could make this but bigger?

My head is 24 inches around at it widest, which is pretty large. If you need bigger than that you can just resize the template when you print it. I have a video on how to do that. kzitem.info/news/bejne/05yNuWyAh6uUZG0

GREAT VIDEO!! I’m now a new sub! I have never made anything like this - and now I am! Do you have this plan available to be cut on a laser cutter? I’ve seen a few others but I like this one the best. I may have to see if I can possibly get it into LightBurn.

I do not have it on a laser cutter but you are more than welcome to attempt to convert it. The plans are in the description below the video. Let me know how it goes.

@@MuchProps do you have a how to for making the spartan shield using the same material? Other videos use cardboard and look a little cheap while other use metal which I don't have the tools to make... these props you make look amazing and the material looks sturdy and easy to paint...

@@MuchProps did you do angle cuts on the plume and the piece the plume goes on top of? It seems like it when I watch you glue it together but I can't tell... also what was the brand of glue you used?

Can you make it with cardboard or does it have to be foam?
@MuchProps

You could try. The pattern is made for a flexible material that can be heat formed. Cardboard, in order to make it more round, would need more darts in the pattern to make it more curved. Dali Lomo here on KZitem has some pretty awesome free cardboard builds, and you could probably use one of his to modify to make this helmet. He might even have this helmet somewhere

This looks amazing and I am hopin to give this build a try... can i just ask how big a head this is made for? I have a stupidly large noggin and will be very sad if i don't make a mess of this and then find it doesn'y fit :(
