I enjoyed this video immensely! As a hobbyist I’m always eager to learn and you explain everything so well! I always use midi notes in Ableton so it was very interesting seeing you use samples for all the percussion sounds.

Thanks so much! I switch back and forth between audio samples and midi. I find putting the samples on the grid for house music easier for my workflow.

Thanks! I usually use Splice and sometimes Loopcloud. You can find some really good stuff on Splice if you dig through some of the lesser known packs 🙂

You can remove the automaic fade in the preferences, unless you like it like that. Anyway great tut.

So i have seen so many house tutorials.. and some people use samples and others use just the drum sampler.. is there a reason to use one over the other? Or is it just preference. Great video btw :)

Hey, thanks! It's mainly preference...I sometimes prefer to use the samples when I'm doing something like house music that's more "on the grid." It can sometimes be easier to see the actual waveform and tweak it more quickly than having to open up simpler and do it there. Try both and see which style you like best :)

Ooh, I downloaded that one a long time ago... the file in Ableton says dmh_kick_ena_g. It's one of my favorites for house music.

You can turn off Ableton automatically adding fades to clips. Preferences > Record Warp Launch > Create Fades on Clip Edges => OFF

Yes, good tip! I usually like to leave it on, though, except in a few instances like above.
