This video is the first of a two part series and shows how I make a hexagonal compound miter box with 15 degree splayed sides. 3D printed fixtures are used to facilitate the dovetail joinery. The sides are Sapele left over from a previous furniture build. The inside faces of the box sides are finished prior to cutting miters. This avoids application of finish in difficult to access areas and aides in glue cleanup. The box bottoms are pre-made on the CNC in batch (no video) using 3mm Baltic birch ply and then covered with velour fabric using spray contact adhesive. The plastic wrap is added for fabric protection during construction.
Tools and machinery used in this build are:
MiniMax FS41 Elite S jointer/planer
Aggazani B24 bandsaw
Format 4 Profil 45Z shaper with adjustable groover and Byrd Shelix cutterhead
Martin T60C sliding tablesaw with MitreX and Airtight Clamps
Hoffmann MU3PD dovetail machine with W-0 keys
