Great video. On backlighting - you might try starting with a much thicker and highly domed lid, run it thru the same process as what you did, then (using the CNC) reduce the thickness of the lid so the epoxy is thin enough to transmit light. Put a battery operated LED light inside the carved out area and enclose it with an inner lid. Conversely, you could simply add a second 'ring' to the lid bottom to give you the added thickness needed for adding a light. This 'ring' could be made of black acrylic (or another contrasting color) which would allow the light to show thru the sides of the lid as well.

Steve: I work in a high end kitchen cabinet shop. We install LEDs inside our cabinets to illuminate them. Contact Hafele to see the options they have for this purpose. Good luck. You’ve done a beautiful job so far.

Thank you David. I used to have a Hafele account but closed it when I turned in my resale tax certificate. Good idea to check them for hardware. Steve

Last some let's in the lid prior to epoxy maybe. May need apod on underside for battery. Maybe use a remote to avoid a switch, or not.

Hi Jeff. I was thinking that as well. Just need to find a suitable product to try. Steve

Perhaps a thinner more transparent epoxy over a mirrored surface. It would not "transmit" light but it would catch and reflect it.

Thank you Phil. I have some translucent dyes but have proven to be much more transparent than I would prefer. I hadn't thought of the mirrored surface. I wonder if a metal reflective paint would work in the bottom of the cavities. Steve

@@extremewoodworker I doubt a paint would be reflective enough, I was thinking something like a mylar film or acrylic mirror?
