In this video I'll be making a pair of door handles using old spanners and bolts. I've had this bucket of rusty spanners and bolts for as long as I can remember. I picked out a couple of spanners that were about the same size, and 4 bolts to match. After cleaning them up with a wire wheel on the angle grinder I grabbed a piece of wood to use as the backer board, got it cut into two equal lengths and planed them smooth. I marked out where to drill the holes for the bolts and then set the depth stop on the drill press to avoid drilling too deep. I used a drill bit just slightly smaller than the diameter of the threads on the bolt. This allowed me to screw them into the wood. I added some epoxy too just for good measure. After checking they were the correct depth and lined up nicely in the jaws of the spanners, I added some antique pine danish oil to the wooden parts. I used a scrap of leather to protect the wood from getting burnt while I welded the spanners onto the bolts. After letting everything cool down I added some bees wax to all the metal parts to stop them from rusting, and then drilled a hole in each corner ready for mounting them.
