they glue together different pieces to form different patterns. the end result being the end grain pieces are all going in different directions. this causes the board to be stronger.

Thats mad, it's only a matter of time before he ends up cutting his fingers. It only takes a slight lapse in concentration. In the UK and EU we have regulations to make it safer for workers. All saws have to have a riving knife and top guard I believe. Plus you'd be expected to use a push stick rather than your fingers.

It actually does smell really nice! And different woods, different smells... Some smell sweet, and some smell spicy (like black pepper, for example)... And working with your hands (no matter what medium you're using) is so amazing and relaxing!!! I think you'd love working with wood!

the soft rubber feet also help to reduce noise when you are using a meat cleaver. it reduces the chopping noise/impulse passing through the board to the tabel and floor.

"Larch, sometimes known as Tamarack, also known as Juniper". Larches are conifers in the genus Larix, in the family Pinaceae. Junipers are coniferous plants in the genus Juniperus of the cypress family Cupressaceae. Sorry, I know I'm being a pedant, but I'm just saying... whatever, they are certainly nice boards.

yes - Juniper is different - somehow it became the local colloquial name for Larix in Cape Breton, actually 'dirty juniper'. Possibly from the early Scottish settlers.

We own a large cutting board from Larchwood. It sits like an island and is in the middle of our kitchen. It's used everyday for everything and is as beautiful as the day it was purchased. Absolutely love it!

sounds like she is the marketing/non-technical person, but I believe she's correct in that laminated blocks (strips), alternated in that fashion, are going to be less likely to warp than a solid sheet of weed

I made an end grain cutting board back in 1971 and I'm still using it. No more for cutting but placing hot food dishes on. I resurfaced it after her in doors decided she wanted to tenderise meat on it with a meat mallet. Anyway it came back great. Yep they last for years, decades.

Burning the logo in the CENTER of the back? What if, for some unknown reason the front of the board got damaged, (someone left it on the range where it got burned, etc.) then using the back would be. a problem. That does not make sense to me. Please, someone explain. Am I missing something?

I own such a board and a good knife and I really like it! I even keep bringing it with me to cook for other people. My knife stays sharp much more longer and the surface stays as new. It's possible to see cuts but these get smaller over time and blend in. Mine is made out of pear wood and has been made in south germany. The one side has a faerly deep juice rim carved into it and it really helps keeping the counter clean. It doesn't have any rubber feed so I put a damp towel between the counter and my board. It does the job :-)

Four important rules were broken there, I cringed! Wood is in between fence and blade, hand too close, no riving knife or splitter, and he's standing directly behind the blade. I know very powerful saws actually get away with that usually but damn you never know! I guess you don't learn that until you have piece shoot back at you...

Such an impractical cutting board just for the end grain. If it were me I'd have the block supported with an internal spline, and the rubber feet would be much shorter. This seems like a nightmare for dry climates.

Why are the blocks made in lots of pieces? Why not just one solid block of wood? Is it aesthetics, or something to do with function? I can only think of negatives - such as all the glue that would find its way to the surface to combine with the meat (to be eaten). Sure they are lovely to look at, but do they justify all that industrial energy use (and potential glue consumption)?

heres what i think. if the end grain sucks in oil... would food juices not get sucked in as well ? or is that when the properties of your grain magically change ? also how much glue is in those boards ... it seems like a crazy product for people who are lead to believe it is better even tho it requires more maintenance and is alot more expensive

when you did the 1st glue process then cleaned it up why did you cut them all down, glue and clamp when you could have glued all the planks together once and cut it into loads of boards? # justsaying

larch is a beautiful and very rot resistant wood but when i tried milling some it gummed up my blade in a matter of minutes. Is your blade running through some sort of water bath, i noticed something dripping off the blade

Managed forests with new trees replacing the cut ones, which in turn scrub CO2 to oxygen for us. Watch to the end, there is almost no waste product, everything is used in some way. It's a product that will far outlast a plastic chopping board. Can't see how you think this is bad for the environment.
