With Vintage watches this often matters more. Watches used to be really a lot smaller and what would have obviously been a men's watch say in the 1960's, really looks dainty on a guy of today unless on say a bundt strap or something to make it wider.

I'm a woman with a small 5.25 wrist. To be honest anytime you review a watch that's over 38mm , I think "never mind, I'm out". I will absolutely wear and have plenty of "men's" watches that are up to 38mm. It's the watch and the size that matters... not "who" it's designed for.

Imagine how many smaller G-shocks Casio could sell if they’d stop putting “Baby-G” on the case or stopped making the smaller sizes pink & cream colored with sparkly hour markers. Just make a smaller watch in various colors without too much “bling” & they’ll sell themselves.

This irrirates me to no end. I don't understand why they don't just make normal ass watches but smaller, "women's" watches have to have fake diamonds and gold tone and goofy fake pearlescent material. Yes hello, I am a woman. My daily driver Is a full metal casio square and I adore It. Watches are watches, good to see folks here and wearing what they love too. I could wax poetic about the reliability, the ease of use, the beautiful caseback, tell you all about the tech, and at the end of the day… It don’t bloody matter, because you value a watch based on the memories you made with It. Watches remind of us time not just as a concept, but the time we spent wearing them, the sacrifices we made or the agonizing wait to get what our heart desires. Right now, my eyes are set on a washi dial chronomaster. Why? Becuase the exact texture of the dial Is a pin-point exact image of how I remember snow looking like when I was a baby, in my childhood home. That’s my dream watch because of the *memory* It brought back when I saw It for the first time.

Also, as a side note, the entire concept of gendered accessories or clothing Isn’t a concept I don’t really get much enjoyment out of. I’m a woman because it’s who I am, not what I decide to adorn myself In. I’ve owned the rose gold version of this watch and I absolutely adored It, the GM-S5600-PG4. The watch looks stunning on anyone’s wrist, let alone mine.

I'm one of your 2.2% and I'm new to this world. Obviously I discovered early on that a lot of the watches I thought were rather fetching would unfortunately look like ginormous flying saucers on my wrist. Most of the brand sites don't seem to allow you to search by case diameter so I've been a little at sea. This branding may help some of us to find the casioak mini for example but I suppose it's all about audience capture. Women are a wee bit excluded so it's difficult to say that they should change the parameters making it more difficult for me to find watches that suit my wrist but I get your point.
@CherylRomig-h6s

Women repeatedly have to pay high prices for quartz watches "because." It is very clear the watch community and makers do not want women in the hobby. I agree that dial size is no longer strickly men or women, but often women do favor a band smaller than the case. I think men are put off wearing a "woman's watch" but I think women would feel seen and included to be included on any marketing.

I also hate it when i find a perfect watch in the perfect size but it only comes in pink or teal with diamond indexes and no minute track. Looking good there, chief!😊 Watches that I (a big woman with 5½ inch right and 5⅝ inch left wrists) find most comfortable are my 2014 Seamaster 300 pro - like the one that the late Diana, Princess of Wales wore and as inherited by the Prince with the big teeth and the smooth head - because I love replacing bezel check springs every three years, my blue dual, blue bezel Casio "Duro" on a bracelet made by Marc's Long Island Watch that cost me £8 more than the watch and my bright yellow G-Shock with the Bluetooth connectivity and solar fuelled. The G is the "men's" size, nothing to do with the case size but my close eyesight isn't the best and I got bored with carrying my loupe everywhere in order to see the dial! Of my remaining 42ish watch collection; everything from my Red Star chronograph - the 40mm one - to my hot pink F91W sees some use. Interestingly, the pink F91 was described on the Casio UK site as being for the men? Yet the German maker MWC has the right idea, its description on WMC's Amazon store emphasises that the field type is intended for unisex use, my flieger is however marked as being for men. Gotta love a VH31. My most worn piece this month is also a VH31 equipped little joy; it's the PD1731 that you telepathically made me buy earlier this year. I would have gone for that one if its diameter were 50mm, love it and see it as the least gender specific piece I own. Sorry for the word count, but as some brave men dare to tell us: women can't stop blethering.😅

“Lady’s” watches are small, boring, quartz, and usually pink, pale blue, some other pastel colour. “Men’s” watches are sporty, elegant, exciting and lots of great colours, and more legible. The only thing limiting me wearing them is size when they go over 40mm diameter.
@tangolettuce3538

The whole gendering game has its positives and negatives. The thing is, G-Shocks are so large that "women's" versions are about the size of a typical "men's" watch that isn't a G-Shock. I think if Casio didn't specifically call this or similar offerings a "women's" watch, a lot of women would just assume it was a "men's." And though it is a calculated move, I appreciate the "unisex"-ifying that is taking place. The space is a male-dominated hobby, so much of the watches that could go either way tend to end up captured by masculinity. I was rather struck by Tudor's recent marketing of the Pelagos 39. It seemed to really plant a flag in the ground and say "this is a women's watch too." Even though we definitely don't need a watch company's permission, it's a significant push to change how we think about these things at large. As a trans woman, I don't want to have to think about how something might be gendered, but I kind of end up having to to some degree, and it's nice to potentially have more options!

To the extent the hobby is dominated by men, marketing to women makes sense: men are already buying G-Shocks, so they need an entry point for women Like the SAK companion, I love the look of the Sydney and the New York is easily unisex, but they’re marketed to women because they don’t have trouble getting men to buy knives But, be the change you want to see in the world! If you’re a man, buy and wear “women’s” products! Women buy things marketed to men all the time, often because there’s not much other option

As a woman with a small wrist, I can say that I actually tend to stray away from watches marketed towards women. I want a watch for it's specs and features. It is frustrating to have to avoid the fantastic 40+mm watches (especially divers!), but marketing towards women with specific color choices, frills, or- my biggest pet peeve- a "dumbed down" version with fewer features is the perfect way to get me turned off a watch.

I don't care about labels or categorizations. I once had a Certina with a mother of pearl dial and I loved wearing it. I had some people come up to me and tell me that I was wearing a lady's watch. If not what makes a male or female watch?

I generally now wear a Kamasu, an Invicta Prodiver (I know, I know cringe... 😁) as well as my G-Shock GW5000. Thank you for a great video.

Jody, having just disagreed with you about the Tissot PRX digital, I'm delighted to be able to say that I couldn’t agree more on the matter of gendered watches. I put my money where my mouth is when the first G-Shock I bought for my collection was the “ladies” Analog-Digital GMA-S2100-1AER. It fits my 6.5” wrist perfectly, while the majority of “men’s” models would look ungainly and ridiculous. Still, I might consider getting one if the Bluetooth feature ever trickles down to the lower price ranges.

I think the GMD-5600BA-1JF which is also a "womens" watch might be a bit better than this one Jody. The GMD is 40mm and looks more like the OG, in every respect, not sure if the module is the same or not, I couldn't find anything in the CASIO website. However, the markings on the bezel and screen/dial are just like the OG. Anyway, great vid as always and say "Hi to the lovely lady in the thumbmail" 😅

I find my tastes have shrunk a bit over the years. I used to basically only wear 40-43mm divers, but over the last few years, a 35mm PRX, a 33 (or whatever)mm F91 and a 36mm Baltany Dirty Dozen have gotten a ton of wrist time. Granted I'll still rock a bigger watch from time to time (right now is a GWM5610 square G), but I have begun gravitating to smaller/lighter/less showy.

Casio "Baby" G-Shock. Remember, if you don't want a 50+mm diameter watch, we'll call it the "Baby" version and have "BABY-G" emblazoned across the forehead. Just make it the smaller size and create a variety of colors. Blacks, pastels, primary colors, etc.

I don't pay attention to the sex-specific labels of watches for my purchasing interest, but first and foremost is the design. Is it attractive to my style? Then the movement. If it's a garbage movement, I'm out. And I don't mean "quartz", just garbage. Next, is SIZE. There are SO MANY great watches that I love and would buy, but they're made for Frost Giants apparently. I'm a 6.5~7 inch wrist, so 40mm is the sweet spot, + or - a mm or 2. But anything over 42mm is just out, except for my CasiOak, because it's awesome. Smaller than 38 also is out because it just doesn't match my style. I work with several women who have positively tiny wrists, so "unisex" or not, a 40+mm watch looks like a wall clock hanging off their delicate wrist. They NEED a 36 or smaller watch to look comfortable, as well as for the weight to be agreeable with them. I let one co-worker try on my Planet Ocean with the bracelet and she said it felt like she had a barbell strapped on. I think the case size is more important than anything else in the debate, because tastelessness aside, a dainty 5 or so inch wrist is going to look absolutely ridiculous with a Invicta abomination Wrist tumor on.

Visually, I think this watch looks lovely. I think it's probably a very attractive size on my 6.5" wrists. But I'm definitely inclined to agree that I'd prefer a standard display - as such, I think if I got this, I'd try to mod it to swap polarizers. I can't speak on the band - again, I think it's visually attractive, but I've never owned a G-Shock, so I don't know what the various materials actually feel like. I just have an F91W (and A700W). Anyway, as a trans woman, I also very much agree with your points at the start of the video, especially on these watches that are just... very unisex in appearance, IMO. Most G-Shocks look very utilitarian or sporty, so I really don't see them as a gendered product. Like of course, I appreciate the diversity of models, to show that they're for women, too. But like you suggest from your poll results, it's just... missing the mark, and probably ends up ostracizing more customers than it attracts. (Tbf, I also think that's silly on behalf of those that said they'd be turned off by such marketing. Fashion is about wearing what looks good for your style and body. Who cares who it's marketed to, as long as it's comfortable.)

It is all about proportions and harmony between items/clothes we wear, style we have and size of our body. What makes body beautiful? Proportions and harmony. Same with items. Big watch on small wrist looks off. Fragile and tiny watch mixed with masculine style looks off. Gold watch with sweat suit and sneakers looks off. etc. etc. Most people nowadays doesn't care about style anymore. Most people have no idea how to design, how to join things together. That is why they are mixing random clothes with random items. *** I don't like this watch for two reasons: 1) negative display 2) no typical for Casio writings on "dial" 3) bad strap 4) shiny bezel/case Too masculine for most women. Too feminine for most men.

Yes! When I was in the market for a Rolex DateJust, I was offered a 36mm and I had 2-3 people tell me to go for the 41mm and the 36mm were for women. I appreciated the classic size of a 36mm. And I was a big fan of Anthony Bourdain and knew he wore a 36mm. I have a 6.75” wrist and I thought the 36mm actually looked better on me. So I went with that. I also got a GMAS2100 even though it was targeted towards women, I liked the black and rose gold. So I picked that one up as well.

My wifes watches end at 38mm, my watches start at 39,5mm. Not 39, but 39 POINT FIVE 😎. So we there have a strikt border between us. Btw: On my 8,5 inch wrist, with smaller watches I always feel like a clown on a childs birthday 🤡.
