Appreciate your attention to detail. Strange your Fairchild bears few mangos. I remember marveling at how many mangos were on a Fairchild in south florida. I don't know if that's the case every year.

You’re welcome. Some pina coladas we got this year were as big as a regular Carrie mango but most were smaller, similar to Fairchild mango size.

I need your recommendation. If you were to plant 3 mangos, what would they be? Thanks

Assuming you are in FL, based on disease resistance, productivity and tree size(compact preferred), i would plant M-4, Pickering (or Little Gem) and Orange Sherbet. If taste is the only criterion then Sugarloaf, Lemon Zest and Sweet tart would be the ones. But they all have either disease or productivity constraints. They all have super close contenders, that's why i have 50 varieties growing :)

Pina Colada and Little gem are both compact trees right?
@growpuravida
3 жыл бұрын
Both can be kept compact. Little gem gives vertical branches so it is not like Julie mango or NDM#4. If left unpruned Little gem can be a tall tree easily but it is very productive so fruits' weight will hold the branches down and keep tree compact. Pina colada for us needed at least 3 yrs in ground to start producing so in the beginning you will need some pruning to keep it compact. Also, Pina colada seems less vigorous compared to Little gem.

Just bought a home in browsed can you direct me to some good mangos vendors as well as where I can get some 15+ gallon trees to plant

All the good mango vendors we buy mangoes from are mentioned in the descriptions under each video, so depending on the variety you can select where to go, watch all the videos and decide which flavor profiles sound and look good to you. All the addresses are googlable as long as they're selling to the public. As for 15-gal trees, in our experience they're not the most resilient ones. The first couple years in ground your 3-gal will grow to be almost the same size but will have a much healthier root system and you can trim it to your desires/requirements.

You have to prune your trees every year and you will get much better fruit set. I keep my trees at 10 feet and get very good fruitset i am vero beach

Yes, thank you. That is what we plan to do as well. 10ft is ideal. I am letting some trees like Cac and Dot planted on south side get a bit big for giving shade to our veggie garden.

In India and Israel ultra high density mango trees are kept at 6-7 feet. That’s over 1000 trees per acre.

thanks for the info! Always interesting to know how growers manage their trees around the world.
