Honestly these update videos are a perfect example of AAA development cycles tackled from the perspective of an actual player. It always blows my mind how many iterations of concept art go unused in pursuit of the perfect design, but I’m glad that you have the resources available to manifest your dream game that I’m sure everyone will love playing. Keep feeding us these great insights! I’d love to read up all these notes on these character designs.

For the logo I think the "B" still needs work as its a little weird, particularly the top right sharp point. I'd try a slight radius corner here. Not to round it off completely like an earlier version you showed, but just to soften it up. Also the texture you have given it looks cool but I'm not sure it suits the theme of the game. The shiny metal effect along with the sharp points make it feel like the blade of a weapon which seems a little incongruous with the general feel of the game so far. I would try some variations of material to get a feel for something more suitable. Maybe materials used on your game board - Wood, fabric, stone etc...

The artwork of the amulet got me thinking. Since I'm guessing every character has a somewhat unique starter deck, I think it would be cool to have these items be visible on the portrait. So for Vanessa you could make her starter deck be the amulet, the gun, the Saber, the bag of gems and the chest. The objects you buy from there could then also be more neutral, since you have the character identity in the starter deck and build the synergy from their. So let's say you have another character with a gun, maybe a pistol. Buying the "black powder" in the shop does different things depending on the gun the character has in his starter deck. Could be fun to explore. This also ties in monetization, since buying a new character skin could also affect the portraits in your starter deck. Anyway keept it up!

- The top-heavy B is ugly as sin - Logo icon without a circle (B version) is by far the best, it's the most distinctive. - Would be useful for the disabling of toy interaction to be granular, so the One Annoying Thing can be disabled without eliminating all interaction. - First character icon (torso only) looked best on the board. The smaller ones blur the details and facial features too much. I'd 100% encourage the rebranding away from "this is a card game". A lot of players are instantly turned off by it, they just don't want to give it a try - while card game players will play your brainy deck building game anyway no matter what you call it.

My issue is that the top is bigger than the bottom. I get why it’s designed that way, but it just looks off. Also, the roundness of the bottom clashes with all the other hard lines and edges.

What you said about the naming is spot on, I mainly play MOBAs but I used to play MTG as a kid, however since Hearthstone was such a huge disappointment I never even tried another card game again. A friend keeps telling me to try out Gwent but I just can't be bothered because I just keep thinking it's gonna be another generic card game. Now a couple weeks ago a new mobile gacha game came out (Seven Deadly Sins: Grand Cross) and it's plays exactly like a very very dumbed down cardgame but by the time I realized it's just a cardgame I already was playing it and now I'm having a ton of fun with it. And I even have a cardgame background so I can just imagine how appalled FPS and other MOBA players are by that genre.

I am a MOBA player as well. I can´t say i hate cards games or whatever, but i never had that "urge" feeling to go play them. I played HS for 1-2 days then i quit couple years ago, however i have been following many HS youtubers on a daily basis for the longest time, so i like watching people who invested time and effort into the game(That´s why i know Reynad in the first place), but i dont bother playing. When LoR launched the open beta, i played it for 3-4 days straight, really invested in it. Even though i really had a great time playing, but the same thing happened and i didnt open the game ever since. But TFT i´ve been playing A LOT lately, so there´s that. The game is pretty simple, but i feel like i am doing something and this makes me want to go back playing it every day.

Maybe they can do like different styles for different letters to represent how the game is an interdemensional meetup. Like have the B made of vines / nature looking and some other letters alien / robotic and the some runic / ancient. That way nothing looks out of place since each letters design can fit its theme (plants for curved lines on the B)

The new logo looks a bit “scifi” to me. Coupling that with the chevron’s for A’s and it feels like the Bazaar is now a Space Bazaar. Not bad, but just reads a lot differently than mystical/magical

-I like the colors of the original logo more than the new logo. -If you do the toy idea (which I think is a great idea) they should present as toys and be designed to literally look like children's toys. I think that would be super fun and give the game a more comfortable, playful vibe. -I personally like the leftmost design for how cards appear on the board, but only by a small margin. Hard to decide. -I think Vanessa's Amulet definitely needs some blue around it. -As far as music goes, I definitely think every boss (or important NPC) should have their own theme. I've got plenty I'd be willing to send your way; I write my own music.

I think having the player character (Vanessa) be a 3d object on the board and having them be part of the toys would be awesome. You could have her signal a canon to fire and stuff. Have them be an interactive part of the board.

The toys actually sound like a great way to monetize a cardgame, like honestly I never paid a single dollar in hearthstone, gwent, magic etc. but I would have for that kind of feature, but I think it would be cool to unlock 2-3 through regular challenges in the game. Like collecting all the cards or winning 10 ranked games in a row.

Hi Reynad! On the topic of wanting to minimize the amount of input per turn. I think you should consider actively thinking on archetypes or characters who need way more input (something like miracle rouge in HS) because there are a lot of players who love those. Then it won't be mandatory for everyone and it won't scare away casual players, but the option will be there for those of us who enjoy tons of clicking in a turn and racing with the rope.

Closest zoom for hero portrait, farthest for monsters. Although both should just be an animated 3d sprite if you're moving away from the card game aesthetic. I really like the new direction you're going though. Ditch the stationary look and feel altogether. Heroes and monsters should just be animated 3d sprites. This makes your hero actually a toy as well, albeit a free one that connects the toy mechanic into the actual gameplay. Items be actual 3d assets that get thrown down onto the board. Your 'deck' can be another toy like a treasure chest or a dragon's nest. Also for cameos, I nominate Day9's laugh. Thanks for the updates!

Long post inc. First of I just wanna say - Awesome design for Vanessa! Can't wait for the video with the world building/lore guy. :P For the monster portraits I think I'd either do 1 (where it's zoomed in to be more of a profile thing) or 4 (where you get to see the full body of the character) The first one has the advantage of it being pretty clear what we're looking at -> It's zoomed in so we get to see the details of the character (for example it's really easy to notice that she's doing a ''smug smile'' kind of thing on 1, if you look at 4 you can't really see the facial expressions or other things like scars or details on clothing of the character as well) The 4th one doesn't allow us to see facial features or details nearly as well, BUT it does let us see the full character - If I looked at 1 without knowing anything about her prior, my first thought would be something along the lines of ''chinese/japanese gunslinger'', but when I get to see the full artwork with her holding a bag with treasure spilling out of it and stepping on a chest I instantly know that she's something along the lines of a corsair or pirate. Personally think that 2 and 3 are just kind of meh, 2 has the same good thing as 1 except you can see the details less clearly and 3 has the same good thing as 4 except it doesn't show the full artwork. (they kinda just feels like inferior versions of 1 and 4 tbh) Other option: You could have 1 be how they look on the board when we're not interacting with them, letting us see the facial details of the characters and then have it slowly zoom out to show the full artwork IF we hover them for some time (say like 5 sec)? (don't know if this would be hard to make, but it sounds kinda cool and would get the best of both worlds) Also I don't remember if you were planning to do premium or animated cards (I would assume so if cosmetic's is how you plan on making cash? :P), but people would probably wanna see the full artwork if it's something that we buy (like imagine if Vanessa's full artwork was her standing on a ship with cannons firing in the background or something like that - the no-interaction picture would just show her profile with a moving sea behind her and then when you hover over her it would zoom out to let us see the cannons firing and the gold treasure bag she's holding) I feel like for hero pictures doing profile is just the way to go - Being able to see the facial feature's of your main heroes is pretty much essential to making us feel connected to the them and it's part of what gives them a personality. (I'd maybe even zoom a bit more to be honest) The item also looks really good - I fcking love how the artwork for the item is actually a picture of it being worn by it's main user.

I thought of a good toy, I think tic tac toe game, as one. Have it playable between the two people. I think it's good because it creates a smaller secondary level of engagement. And the winner gets like an emote to use for the match. And it resets after use to play again.

As far as the text logo, I think it might be a tiny bit too thin. I like the idea of referring to The Bazaar as a strategy game. For the character / monster design in-game I like the more full art option, like you showed of Vanessa. Overall, I'm just glad to be a part of this and I'm excited to play it in the future.

I see I'm not the only one who is not a fan of the new logo. For me, the issue with the new logo seems to be that there is too much "unfilled space" in there. I think it would look better either if the letters were closer together (leading to a narrower logo), or if the letters were more bolded, to fill some of that space.

I liked the old logo better, lemme try to explain why 1. The top and bottom of the Z are almost the same length. 2. The B looks more like a B. 3. Having bigger "holes" in the B and the R, (especially the R) gives the logo more character as a whole. I just really like how that R looks. 4. It's simpler without the little protruding tips on the B and R If I had to try and make the B better, maybe take the sharp angles at the top-left of the B and switch it with the curved part at the bottom-right of the B. This would make it more symmetrical with the R. Game as a whole is looking great so far, can't wait to play it.

The logo should definitely be thicker, what you decided on is very thin. It should be thicker to contrast "the" at the top as well as occupy the empty space in between letters.

I might be wrong but it looks like Vanessa's amulet item isn't raised at its borders like it is in her full picture. Like in the item, the outside edges of it are at level with the rest of it. I think it looks much better in her full artwork with the raised borders.

As long as this game has a competitive ladder of some kind I'll be all over it. General I would say that people who play card games love competition. Also, very valid point about calling it a strategy game. Not myself, but some people just assume all card games are designed to rinse you on card packs. From what I understand reynad is not going for that model. Great work keeping the community up to date with development. I feel loyal already and the game is a long way off!

I must say I think the first attempt at BAZAAR was still the best. This metal look from the last revision is something that's been overused in computer game ads and magazine titles from the 90s.

The B appears much smaller than the R because the top part of the R overlaps... just seems a bit off. Additionaly i personally like a smaller spacing between the letters more because it appears to loose for me. Hope the feedback is useful

Nitpicking the little details of the Bazaar title more, the bottom of the Z double A and R (the cornor) all line up on a line but the bottom of the B does not. General idea, i think that the b should try to mimic the R's top round part , rather than trying to mimic the leg sticking. That way you can get rid of the awkward leg sticking out of B.

At some point you talk about the "money" aspect in the game, that each card in the stores would be the same "cost". Would you completely remove money from the game? From a flavor standpoint that doesn't really seem to fit the theme of the Bazaar in my opinion. Also, if there is no money, can you just pick anything to put into your deck from the presented cards? How many will that be? Money in the game is also a great way of letting these kinds of things settle itself. Really excited for more info and the next updates. Really interested to see how this problem(?) will be tackled.

Funny how creating a uniform cost for cards really gives that Battlegrounds autochess feel. I never thought about how that could help some players approach the game (eye-opening), but it’s interesting looking at it compared to other deckbuilders. It almost becomes a drafting game then (not sure if you are guaranteed purchasing power each turn).

I don't think this is a big deal, and it may just be me, but the B in the new Bazaar logo looks like a very curly/fancy Z to me (looks like Zazaar), I think in general that may not be a problem, but if someone just takes a quick glance title and tries googling it later they may not be able to find it. Aside from that though it looks AMAZING! Can't wait for the beta/release!

For the B of the full logo, did you guys try doing like an angularized Beta symbol? with disconnected attachment points similar to how the R is drawn? It would allow you to extend the tail down to the same level as the R and have a more symmetrical style on the logo imo. If a sketch of what i'm trying to convey would be helpful, lemme know. I'm liking the design so far. I'm a big fan of fantasy and sci fi mash-ups. The logo looks cool, but it's extremely unreadable. If you hadn't told me the chevrons are "A"s, I'd have assumed the game was called BZR. It's unnatural to have two letters under each other in a left-to-right sign. It's even harder if the two letters in question are written in an untypical way. As it stands, it just looks like BZR with some cool graphics around it :/

I'm really looking forward to this game. It looks like a lot of time and extreme effort is being out into it.

Toy Idea: When people make covers of your game music, you put that in the game. Sell it in the form of toys. You interact with the toy to change the music. After 5 years of HS, I get tired of the music and just have podcasts on the entire time. Being able to change the music would be cool, and a way to bring the community into the game.

The squelch feature that disables enemy toy interaction or seeing the enemy's toy interaction should be tied to the regular squelch function. And I assume the squelch function is on a game-by-game basis, right? Because otherwise what if it turns out that 75% of players just have the squelch option permanently on. Then aren't players less incentivised to buy the animation heavy toys if much less people see those animations/interactions. I think it kind of squanders what you want to do with toys if half of their functionality can just be disabled client-wide, rather than animations at least being on by default at the start of each game/match.

Reynad has spent his entire hearthstone existence asking to be able to squelch all his opponent in the settings menu, I am 100% certain this game will have in settings auto-squelch lol

If you put in a squelch option, it's going to lower the value of toys. I'd say you should make the toy not spammable instead (e.g. include an animation for loading the TREBUCHET).

Getting devs into content creation is a really high priority in my mind, Byron got me really excited about Everland just because when his devs are ingame in the showcases I see they're enjoying themselves and you see they're adding stuff to the game they love and their additions have charm. If we see your devs excited about making the game and loving the game they're making it'll be way easier to get excited about the end product, maybe even a 20min "making of" documentary thats released around launch could be very beneficial to the hype. Cuphead had an excellent 12min video done behind the scenes with RedBull you should check it out for direction, really gives charm.

I totally agree, while the game wasn't great (and they monetized it super poorly) I was so hyped for Evolve before it came out because of all the content and developer videos they had.

I understand how you talked about design space, so i am exited to see how it turns out. Hearthstone for me lives from these special effects of some cards, but at the same time, Auto chess games don't have that many unique effects and still are more exiting to me. So i hope you hit the mark there. For the Model of Vanessa, i liked the first one with only hip upwards the most. It allows me to see a little more detail, which is getting more and more lost with the others, and considering that the board will have all these "toys" to interact with as well, it might be better to just pick out a smaller part of the "card" (or however you end up calling it), which is unique to that card and makes you instantly recognize it without beeing to busy.

I think the B in the logo looks out of place, i would try sharp triangles - for example if you rotate the A 90 deg. and stack 2 of them on top of each other. Eternal has both clickable, changeable toys and you can see when your opp uses a toy. also it came out after HS.

it might be beneficial to take a more hands-off approach to the logo and graphic design elements of the game. don't get me wrong, i think you have a good eye for good art and gameplay elements, but traditional design is a slightly different thing that often ends up being washed-out, uninspired, and misunderstood when it becomes committee-based. Another way to think about it: could you come up with the best gameplay mechanics possible if another group of people were constantly looking over your shoulder and had final vote?

Love a lot of these changes! However, not a big fan of how the character looks with the portal. I much prefer the oval/rectangle on the board, instead of the perspective and portal. I know that makes it more "card-gamey", but it looks much cleaner imo.
