A great, great video. Well done. My father JOE HULL became a Grenadier Guardsman in 1937 as part of the third Batt. & served for 7yrs & 109 days. Before going to war in Sept 1939 where he lost his left leg above the knee, one of his duties was guarding the royal family at Windsor Castle which was of course HOME for Elizabeth. He witnessed & had to protect Elizabeth & her younger sister when they were playing in the grounds sometimes riding around on their bikes. After being involved in at least 5 actions with the B.E.F. he spent over 3 & a half years as a P.O.W. mainly in Stalag 8B Poland.

He served I believe in the 5th Batt Grenadier Guards. His name was Grenville and in the UK he also patrolled Windsor Castle and at night in plimsolls. I recall that for a time he was in charge of a Sergeant's R & R hotel in Italy. All honour to your father and all the best to you!

So many things could have gone wrong and didn't. Although the funeral was planned decades ago, the many participants had 10 or fewer days to finalise plans, drop everything and rehearse so that the choreography and timings would perfect. How on earth are they able to synchronise the individual cannon shots in the royal parks some distance away with the tolling of the muffled Big Ben so they happen at the same instant, for example? It makes you wonder why the country can't be governed with the same precision. You couldn't get much more of a contrast between this outstanding recent public event and the universally acknowledged current parliamentary chaos.

I am republican but it is precisely why I mourned with the rest Canada the loss of our Elizabeth II. She was benign but deeply engaged in thoughts about us. When in my mid twenties I stopped in a walk to interview someone in the Prime Minister’s Office to watch the changing of guard. Michel Rochon from the PMO’s, French Canadian variant of myself, came along and surprised me with the assertion he was a never able pass up such beautiful music. I have recalled that statement whenever I ask myself why there is so much French spoken in Ottawa at events involving the Ceremonial Band. I hope Mr. Sam one day will fulfill his dream and play for the Ottawa group or the band of the 22 that presides over the changing at the Citadel in Quebec.

There is not much to be happy about this year in 2022 after loosing our beloved sovereign Queen Elizabeth 2nd but i must say this was a superb performance from ALL our great armed forces and their marching bands. I wish to congratulate the whole lot of them and all the participants from all regiments. You did your late Queen proud! I do not have a favourite band as my father was a simple commissioned officer in 8th Army in 1940-45 in North Africa/Italy and had no preference BUT i must say i rather like HM Royal Marines Portsmouth & Plymouth but have only ever been to Pompey to catch a ferry but I did live close to Plymouth for 15 years on Dartmoor. However they were all fantastic bands and made me proud of you all and I wished i had joined the services 60 years ago. Well done all!

So proud of these men and women. I know they were glad to be able to play more lively tunes, after playing a dirge for hours. They all deserve medals for their participation.
