Marie Howe's poem "Once or Twice or Three Times, I Saw Something" is in the voice of Mary, the mother of Jesus. From her book The Kingdom of Ordinary Time, this poem chronicles the visions that Mary had, of spirit made manifest.
Howe, the former New York poet laureate, attended Sacred Heart Convent School, and later wrote for newspapers, taught in classrooms, and then began writing poetry. She now teaches, writes, and edits anthologies.
