I inherited a model 60 {oak leaf}, the bolt was locked back, got to looking and saw the ejector lifter spring was on top of the bolt {like it was supposed to be} and thought AH I see the problem this spring has got the bolt jammed...so I proceeded to disassemble the rifle clipped about a quarter of an inch of spring got the ole girl put back together and started the refinishing process!!! MAN she was beautiful, so I decided to do a functional test...NO EJECTION OF ROUNDS !!!! Well, learned a valuable lesson {dont cut/alter anything until you know exactly what you are doing} !!!! I know my Father in law was looking down and laughing his butt off at my rookie mistake !!!!

Very good, to the point and not a 20 minute video. I also note that you are rare in that you say to lock the bolt back before putting the trigger action back on. That is in the directions and is missed by almost everyone. This way, your extractor never gets compressed and always works.

Looks upon reassembly that you pressed bolt all the way down to the spring-enclosed guide rod, is that correct? Is that the trick? I already kinked my spring doing it the first time and without the benefit of this video. Update: Just did it your way. Worked well and easily, thanks so much! I believe your way is the best way and certainly differs from the manual and other videos.

+brentfoto yes, exactly. This traps and protects the spring.

+arrowdodger luvs marlins Thanks, again, man! Got the link to your video from a thread on rimfire central...! I would have found it better if the title were changed to 'Marlin recoil spring assembly/disassembly-avoid kinking' or similar, e.g., 'How to remove and install Marlin recoil spring without it ruining your day' haha True it is this involves removal/installation of the bolt but the overwhelming problem is that people, many it seems, end up kinking or ruining their recoil spring in the process. And that is a PITA and aggravating- happens way too often! Your video is the 'cure'..Cheers,

It does. If you remove the action assembly, you can see da groove.

If the spring in the guide rod are bent does that stop it from firing

. Certainly, having a straight and lively recoil spring and true guide rod are very important to the operation among other wear items. Recoil springs are relativity cheap to replace, so swap it out with a fresh new one, in your process of troubleshooting the problem. The guide rod can be easily straightened.

A cleaning rod and the ejector spring/wire are at odds for sure if you are too aggressive. I feel a bore snake is the way to go. Love mine, quick and easy and simple. There is no way to snag the wire if you go from the chamber on out.

Thank you for making replacement of the Marlin 60 recoil spring installation process so simple and clear. IF I would have reviewed this before I tried the first time ⏲️ 😅 I would have saved damage 💔, time and money 💰
