Both lovely guitars. Wish Martin would live a little and untangle their panties and offer alternate fret inlays and different finishes like Gibson.

Hi Jonathan, as usual that was a fantastic video, full of information and extremely beautiful playing. I have a 2001 D28, which I love, and would appreciate some more info on the liquid metal pins. May I also enquire as to what your string preference is, on your dreadnought? Keep posting, I love to see your notifications. 👍

Hi Lucky, if you don’t mind another option I’ve been very impressed with my friends mid priced Tanglewood acoustic around €450. Beautiful sound and lovely to play. It stood up very well to my own guitar worth 3 times the price. But if that’s too dear the Harley Benton’s are great too I have a HB nylon acoustic and it’s a nice guitar too.

I believe the bracing is 5/16 the same as on a triple 000 actually. That's why the top really responds!... I'm no where near the expert as you J.K. but I've been watching videos on the HD and I happen to hear that about the bracing. Just now in fact =0) I hope I didn't put my foot in my mouth brother!😎

What do you think of the HD-35 vs your D-35 from a playing perspective and feel? Any pronounced differences that weren't mentioned in the video? Would you recommend one over the other? For fingerpicking, which one performs better? Great video!

Hi Jonathan, fully agree with your comparison, that's what I heard. May be the HD35 is too new to deliver more lows. I thought that scalloped bracing would deliver more lows than non-scalloped, so ? Anyway I prefer the tones of you D35, richer, more balanced. Thanks for demo.

This was a great review! I have this exact model HD-35. Mine is from 2017. I mainly finger-pick and don’t do any recording. Do you think that, if you also owned this guitar, would you change to the new liquid metal pins? Do you think the liquid metal pins would enhance the sound in combination with the scalloped bracing? I have heard some complaints about the HD-35 that it is a “boomy” guitar. Do you agree? Do you think the 3 piece back on the HD-35 has any effect on sound? Also, what strings would you recommend for this guitar? I saw that Martin has some new strings with a coating of some kind. Thanks for this review!

Jonathan Koh - thanks, I just watched this video again, as well as your review of the liquid metal pins. I’ll be buying those soon! I really like the look of the unique 3 piece back on the 35s. It’s interesting that Martin originally created the D-35 because they found that they had a lot of good Rosewood in smaller pieces that were not big enough to use in the 2-piece back of a D-28, and so they created the D-35 so that those smaller pieces would not be wasted. Hence, the D-35 and HD-35 could be considered a very green, eco-friendly guitar!
