EJS2024 Interview with Marvin of @flexrocksrollovers We've interviewed Marvin in the past but this was the first time meeting him in person. #jeeptalkshow #jeep #jeeplife #jtschicchat Hey, Tony here with the Jeep Talk Show. We're out here at EGS 2024 and I was out here doing another interview and Marvin from Flex Rocks and Rollovers pulled up alongside me and went, "I know that guy."(...) He kind of waved and started working on his Jeep because,(...) tell us real quick, you had a trail repair and now you have to actually get a true four-wheel drive to get the front axle working. You actually make a mechanical modification. Correct. So, I busted the front. You joined on a trip to Cedar City right before East Jeep Safari and I was in a really, really gnarly spot and couldn't, like there was no way to really change a full driveshaft, but I had a spare. So, I just took the front part of the driveshaft out and replaced it with my spare and, well, that never got balanced together. So, now I have a vibration when I drive it down the road and I don't have locking hubs. I just have drive slots.(...) You told me you were having problems with locking hubs. Yeah, exactly. I busted two sets of locking hubs in the last couple of years. Have you thought about any driving lessons so you don't break parts?
(...)
You know, sometimes it's rough. It's usually in situations where the entire weight of the vehicle is on one tire and you kind of got to drive through something and then it just, they can't take that. The first time it was fine, it just broke the hub and it was okay. Second time around, it messed up my whole stub shaft from my RCVs and I had to get a new one. So, and that was... You're doing something. Well, of course, you're all hardcore. You guys do a special video every year and basically that's what you're trying to do is break shit. Yeah, 24 Hellenbeck is what we're kind of known for and that kind of wheeling, we do that style of wheeling all year round, but 24 Hellenbeck is like where we do it for 24 hours straight and we invited a bunch of really awesome people that are popular on KZitem and just good dudes from the industry in general and get all together and then tackle a trail that has never been climbed before by full bodied vehicles and then do it for 24 hours straight. And of course, you can watch this on KZitem. Flex Rocks and Rollovers on KZitem. On the Flex Rocks and Rollovers channel, but also if you type in 24 Hellenbeck, you'll see a lot of action. Tell us some of the people like this last, the 2023, who was on there? The last one was full celebrity. So, the last one was Rory from Trailmator, the Fabrats, Peg Brothers, Rudy's Adventure and Design, Matt Offred Recovery's son,

Ian Johnson,(...) who else? We had a wild card, so somebody just from our followers that we invited out. We have a sign up sheet on our website if anybody's interested. You can go on flexrocksrollovers.com and then hit the wild card button and send an application and maybe you'll be invited to the next one. Okay, so folks, some folks that are just learning about you, there's something very unique about your Jeep because it's not your standard JK, JOU, it's not a flat fender, it's not from the 40s. It's got flat fenders, I would say, but yeah, that's about it. What is the Jeep? It's a 1973 Jeepster commando, but fully modified. Everything. Oh, I just saw it for the first time because there's nothing on there, I think maybe, than the body that's a commando. It's beautiful, wonderful modification. Yeah, you guys can see that also on Flex Rocks and Rollovers. We put this thing through a lot of crazy adventures I've had it for. This is the sixth anniversary of this build,(...) so we unveiled it at EJS years ago and it's still kicking, a couple of renditions later. So other than it breaking, are you done? Got all the modifications done? Are you done modifying the Jeep?(...) That's a trick question. They're never done. You can tell they're real Jeepers. Yeah, my next project is a full redo of the suspension. I'm not really happy how it handles suspension-wise. We can definitely get a lot more out of it. I think the linkage and the geometry is fine. It's more about the shock setup, the call-over setup.(...) It's just, it doesn't ride the way I want it to and it has a couple of limitations that I would like to get rid of. When I do things that are extremely steep and way longer than my wheelbase is, it starts bouncing. It grabs, if I hit it really hard, it's like this, it grabs and it does well. Well, that's part of the fun though, figuring all that stuff out, but then getting it working right. There are certain obstacles that are really on my bucket list that I really want to do, but I know the Jeep won't do it without getting really sketchy because the rear starts bouncing like a leaf sprung vehicle almost and like that can't be. Well, that breaks stuff. Exactly. So you're on 42s? 42s, yeah.
