Thanks so much Victor. The film was written by a 15 year old girl in Cleveland OH who was inspired to write it when she saw a classmate climb on the school bus the day after his father died. When she asked him why he was coming to school his only response was "Nothin. I could do about it."

When you fear someone you allow them to have power over you. A real man knows respect is earned even from his children, you have to earn their respect as well by being there when they need you. You have to show affection show them that you care or they'll end up angry at you angry at the world. Fathers don't run your household by fear run it by love.
@angelcharms7297
6 жыл бұрын
Wow. What his father did to him was abuse. Respect is earned not demanded. Having someone fear u is not the same as respecting u. There's nothing wrong with a man crying. It can be a great release. Sometimes a person needs another to lean on,even the strongest person. Crying is not a sign of weakness. It takes inner strength to cry. Being a man is not "being hard". Part of being a man is to be the support system for another and sometimes, the man,needs the support of another. Crying is not weakness. Crying is freeing! Even for a man. Glad he freed himself of the abuse cycle.

He being taken through this so that he can break down…he needs to release that pain… in tears. I hope he does break down and cry so that he can get better and heal, the rest he gone have to talk about with a counselor or therapist. His dad was probably a carbon copy of someone in his family, he learned to be angry and nasty and he put it on his son.

I cried not because of the story but because of the similarities between the character here and me. No I never was aggressive and such but I had similar living conditions in the end. I’ve recovered from a lot of trauma and I too rarely cry. Can I just say no matter what it’s fine to cry if someone makes your feel worse after tears it’s not normal and not meant to be. I’ve already seen enough to realize this despite being so young. I hope I’m able to help other people now

Freytag's Pyramid Exposition : Eliyah Howard raised by his abusive father and he thought that's what a real man do (not cry, not feel feelings, must be tough, etc). Initial incident : Eliyah's father pissed off so he raised his voice and threw a plate so it is broken. Rising Action : 1. Eliyah's father stepped on his toy, locked him in his father's closet, not allowed to cry, and hit him for many times since Eliyah was a kid. 2. Eliyah rejected Corey (his little brother) when he wanted to hug him before he goes to school and said that now he is a big boy. 3. When Eliyah's female friend said hat she loves him but instead he laughed and wasn't sure of his own feelings. The hurt feelings made her keeps a distance from him. Climax : 1. Eliyah's mother had stroke in ICU and have to stay in hospital for weeks but Eliyah fall on denial with himself. He is still on his principle : not to feel sad or even cry but he hates himself for being weak and think he is not a "man" which his father could be laugh at him. 2. When he was down his knees and crying, his female friend approach him and ask about his feelings. Falling Action : 1. Since his mother at hospital, Eliyah takes care of his mother and Corey everyday. He also get a part time job on a restaurant. 2. Eliyah's principal make sure that he will be there anytime for Eliyah if he needs help. 3. Eliyah hugs her mother and she apologized to him for everything in the past. Resolution : Eliyah meets his female friend and apologized to her for the way he acted. She calms Eliyah down and hug him while he is crying.

Amazing film! That can't be overstated! The music was great; it was so well-written... And Devon's performance was exceptionally stellar!!! I hope to see him go on to do even more great things. The amount talent, skill & hard work that went into this is remarkable... And the topic is such an important & poignant one! This absurd notion that emotions (ANY emotions) are a sign of weakness or a lack of masculinity is silly and ridiculous! Attempting to deny/supress emotions is rejecting one of the most precious and integral aspect of our humanity (along with our sentience & critical mind)! It makes absolutely no sense (and doesnt actually work anyway!); and it typically leads to a number of unhealthy, unsatisfying and even violent behaviors. It is a man's actions (not emotions) that define his manhood & masculinity (or lack thereof); it is our emotions that defines our humanity and reminds us that we are alive! No one should ever feel ashamed, guilty or weak because of the emotions s/he experiences... Emotions are a precious gift! USE them as a guide and as feedback; let them be a part of your process to measure and gauge the quality and effectiveness of your decisions.
