Corey, I stumbled across it and it is the perfect counterpart & supplement to the information I presented here at MACNA. There's a sentiment I've seen in many different arenas that asks, basically, "why does the store owner/wholesaler/retailer get most of the money...I did 'all the work'". Sure, the breeder did a tremendous amount of work to produce a fish, but your talk gives incredible perspective on all the work that the store owner DID to get to the point where the store exists, has people walking in, to BUY those fish. I think your idea of "show me what you can produce" has some merit, but my counterpoint would simply be if you can't sell it, who cares how good I am and producing it!

@@mwpfishbreeder I agree, I think honestly each person who wants to make a business out of it has their own challenge. Whether it's producing it, or knowing numbers etc. Most people have say 2 outa 3 things right, and it's that third thing they need to work on personally to become profitable.

That was really interesting. I loved hearing the numbers of how much you can expect to make breeding fish. Great content.

awesome talk, prices seem comparable to what you can expect in tx over the last 10 years.

I love knowing people’s background but damn 10 minutes of it was way more than enough. You can skip to minute 10 if you want to get to the meat and potatoes

Fair critique LOL! I'd say it really starts around 5:35 or so though, at least from the standpoint of explaining the perspective that I come from when doling out the advice and business perspectives.

What species does everyone suggest? The market is saturated with clownfish

I've often speculated about someone becoming a high-end goby specialist owing to their short lifespans and the predominance of smaller reefs. If you're doing things for fun, then it doesn't really matter, but if you're doing things for profit, then you really need to consider doing things that others aren't doing, but have good demand behind them. One of the best ways to get ahead right now might be to focus on Centropyge, because they can be done at home-scale settings, and if you can recreate one of the more desirable and expensive natural hybrids, or come up with something new, then you'll not have price pressure from wild-caught versions and you'll have a relatively captive market.
