Ok I want to start off with that active track video was INCREDIBLE, loved the scenery. Second thank you for this video, I caught a tree in wind yesterday, and sadly will be replacing the vibration plate, and the ribbon cable. Your video is much better break down on releasing the gimbal I appreciate it. Now to find a video of the actual threading of that ribbon cable.

So the active tracking crashed the drone? Or did your manual maneuvering cause the crash?

Active track worked well. Totally my fault for moving the drone sideways trying to get out from behind the iceberg.

It seems as though I have this exact same problem and my plate has broken in the exact same spot. The ribbon still looks in tact and in place, just like yours. If I try to turn on the Mavic, the gimbal still moves (but obviously gets obstructed because of the broken mount piece), and I can still see video through to the app. However, in the app, it says 'Motor Overload'. Is that an indication that the ribbon is also damaged? Or is my gimbal okay because I can see live video? How exactly can I be sure that the ribbon isn't damaged?
@MikeCriss
7 жыл бұрын
Try to stabilize the plate and let it go through the power up sequence. You should not be getting a motor overload if just the plate is broken. The ribbon cable is for the gimbal, the silver cable is for video.

Thanks for the video Mike. My mounting plate and ribbon need replacing. Can the silver cable be replaced too or does that require a new gimbal assembly? I'm adept at micro electronic repair, but wanted to ask before ordering.
@MikeCriss

Rob, yes the silver cable can be replaced, it just takes further breakdown. You will need to take it apart all the way to the camera. I have done it myself. Not hard, but tedious.

I was in Hong Kong during the Christmas season, so I decided to stop by the DJI Store in the causeway Bay Area. Spoke to a Mavic pro expert. The gimbal will rotate left and right. What? How? All you need to do is purchase the DJI googles. Link the googles to your mavic pro, and as you turn your head with the googles on, the camera gimble will turn also. Here’s the problem I see, The FAA states that you should alway have the UAD in your sight . With the googles on, that’s impossible.

I have the same exact break and ordered the plate. But do i have to take the gimbal apart to replace the plate? Why cant i just take off the 2 screws and replace the plate the plate from the outside. Only the rubber bands are holding plate right?
@MikeCriss
7 жыл бұрын
I thought the same thing, but there is a cable that runs through the plate and needs to be disconnected.
@tapmad
6 жыл бұрын
So if I cut a slot between the gimbal mounting holes, so that the cable could be fed into its place, would that reduce the need to disassemble the drone? (yes I know that would weaken the mounting but it seems weak anyways, and they are cheap to buy)

Given the damage, I think you have more than just the gimbal plate broke. Before I started working on the gimbal, I tested it to make sure it would be worth my time. If it had not worked, I would have been forced to send it back to DJI.

You live in the REAL ALASKA. I was stationed in Kodiak in 69. But lissen, you seem to know yer way around a Mavic. I misjudged the distance over a tree or something. I remember seeing infrared sensor not working or somesuch. Any way..my Mav came to earth thru the branches of a leaveless oak tree, 68 ft. Nothing seemed to be broke, but I got the vibration msg. I pushed the gimbal back in place under all those places Msg went away. But my videos look all shimmery like. As tho you are seeing it thru a bad pair of glasses Very pixelated. Like watching a TV from inches away. Things like foilage and gravel are really bad. WHAT CAN IT BE?. Thanx for a great video anyway.

This excruciatingly painful video is a great advertisement for buying the $100 replacement plan from DJI. You make it seem so easy and intuitive - yet it's not. Even analyzing the problem would require an expert. Nevertheless, glad you could fix it yourself at minimal cost. Perhaps DJI should hire you. Tks.

Analyzing the problem took 2 seconds. Easy to see that the gimbal plate snapped. Very common break and by fixing it myself I was flying by the next weekend. That was the biggest issue for me, downtime waiting for DJI repairs.
