Great video guys I saw somewhere that said to clean your solar panels in a straight line rather than a circular motion as it can cause a problem. Have you heard that? Cheers We’re on track to leave Cairns for the cape on 31 August. We might catch you up there somewhere👍

Hi Ant. Came across you channel recently and enjoying your content. My tip is to check out the Bluetti gear. I took delivery of a Bluetti AC200 Max (LiFePO4 battery) paired with Bluetti 3 x SP200 (600W) portable solar panels about a month ago as my alternative solution to a permanently installed dual battery system in my tourer and can confirm that the gear is absolutely top notch!! The AC200 Max has an in-built 2000W inverter and MPPT solar regulator so no need for anything further to access 240V (plus all the other power outlets you can think of) offgrid. The great thing about the system is that is has a 'pass-through power' ability meaning that you can charge the 2048Wh battery (with solar panels) whilst simultaneously utilising the power. I have been using the system at home to power my kitchen fridges & appliances, washing machine and even clothes dryer and has halved my household power bill as a result!! I have also taken it camping once so far and it worked an absolute treat. I believe that with careful management to prolong battery life (i.e. using the AC200 Max in a 25deg max environment; maintaining the state of charge between 25-75%; and not charging or discharging it too quickly), the system can theoretically last a person's lifetime (advertised by Bluetti as being capable of 3500+ cycles from flat to full charge). Time will tell of course but thus far, I couldn't be happier with the setup. Also, when you compare the AC200 Max with other similar products like the Redarc GoBlock (no inverter not to mention the outright cost), it doesn't take a genius to realise where the value for money is. Acknowledge that the gear is manufactured in China but the quality to right up there and the many reviews by prominent KZitemrs out there (Will Prowse, HoboTech etc.) convinced me to lay down my hard earned and I haven't regretted it in the least!!

The path most expensive initially, is usually the cheapest in the long run!

if your redarc has solar input I would rig up an Anderson for that as well and feed direct. it will be more efficient than running through solar Portable reg.

Yeah agree mate. I reckon I’m going to completely redo the car with a 3000W inverter, 50A DCDC and 2x120aH batteries when we get home

@@empty_nestadventures just be careful adding that weight, keep an eye on your GCM. 40amp dcdc is plenty.
@maingey1

Yes, the Redarc 40amp will be ample, and also more efficient as it has mppt charge profile compared to the pwm regulator that came will your solar blanket.

is 200 watt the only option? Can you use a larger portable panel assuming 1 you can afford the cost and 2 being larger you have the storage available to carry it. or does it depend on you setup? Are we limited by the amount of input the controler can handle? Great vid, easily understood! Can't wait to see the Gibb vid!

There are larger capacity panels available. Comes down to weight, space and cost. 200W is generally available commercially. Decent 12V chargers will handle the extra input

There are input limits on the DCDC too. If you already have 400w on the roof then you probably won't be able to plug in much more than 200w and get value out of it. I have same Enerdrive gear and Enerdrive advised that the DCDC will only take about 500w from 20voc panels (800w from 40voc panels). I don't know what happens when the solar input goes over 500w - just waste the extra power or shut down the DCDC??@@empty_nestadventures

Did you not consider plugging unregulated solar panel into the Redarc DCDC in the tub rather than insert an inline regulator connect separately to the aux battery?

Great video. Confirms what I ws thinking. We are getting an Iridium 13s in a month which comes with 300 w solar. I've been thinking of getting a 200w solar blanket from iteck which works in partial shade. We have 200ah enerdrive lithium, 2000 w inverter and Dc to Dc charger. We will be running a 75ltr fridge/ freezer in the Van. I also have a 40ltr fridge in the tow vehicle and a 120w solar blanket for it. I'm hoping for at least a week off grid and maybe longer. The only 240 appliance we may use is a Kmart Induction cooker for morning coffee or soup for lunch if the weather is really ugly outside and charging a laptop.. It is just for a back up emergency. Please reply with any advice or comments.

Hey guys, love the vids. How have you found the 340Ah battery. I've been looking at the Enerdrive btec 300, and didn't realise giant had a lithium option. They look to be almost 1/2 the price. Cheers Henk

I find that 95L Everkool pulls a fair bit of juice even running both sides of fridge. You guys don't seem stressed by it?

Yeah it is thirsty, but pretty normal for that sized fridge. I’ve adapted a bit even since this video- rather than running the freezer, cryovac all meat and even fresh veggies (blanch or coat with olive oil. We just did 2 weeks on the Gibb River Rd and first week was wet and overcast. Must say I was a little stressed, but came out with the battery SOC at 60% and never dropped below 40%

Yeah mate. We ended up swapping our 340 Giant out for an Enerdrive 300 after some issues. In the end, you kinda get what you pay for
