Great video. Digital pressure probes or stubby gauges are the best way to check subcooling or superheat if you are trying to avoid using hoses (for all their pitfalls) It would definitely take less time, anyway. I like your suggestion of manufacturers updating designs to add ports to check temperature at the middle of the coils.

That would only cause more leaks on these cheap pieces of shit. that we already see too much.

@@snakecat586 You must not like servicing units. Connecting gauges doesn't cause leaks unless you have a bad schrader and those are easily swapped.

I don't do HVAC professionally, but have done my own service and install work for 30 years as I've owned many properties both commercial and residential and do a ton of work myself to save money, electrical as well. Anyhow, I can basically tell if an AC system is okay by the temps on suction, liquid and factor in the ambient. Has worked for me. Its close enough.

Good video mr Craig I ran into a package heat pump a few weeks ago where both the indoor and outdoor unit were inside and the other MT and I noticed there wasn’t a service port for the liquid line to check for subcool and it was a txv unit and I thought to myself there has to be way to check to the subcool for this system. Our senior advisor told us not to worry about it 🤦🏾♂️ but I really appreciate this video this is great information I appreciate what you do 💯👍🏾.

If you are going to put guages on the unit don't use your manifold guages. Use just the guage with a refrigerant hose connection with a short ball valve hose connection. Minimum refrigerant lost and easy oil drain from very short hose and clean if need be.

I believe I have seen one unit with the side panel you speak of that allows you to do this but it is rare and that tubing idea is a good one some engineer needs to get on this. I’m trying to go to school so I can do it

How does measuring pressure at the port translate to temperature in the condenser? Why is it not the temperature at the location of the port? Are the P-T charts adjusted for this?

While a manufacturer could bring a line out to where it would be easier to measure the temperature, it would probably be be more cost effective to permanently mount a thermocouple and and bring the wires out to test point where a meter could be easily connected.

Yep. That’s what the fancy modern VRF ductless split systems have. A brazed-on sensor(s) that feeds data to the control algorithms. The only problem is that they don’t open an API for us to use that data. 🙄

si solo por mantenimiento quieres saber si el sistema tiene buena carga de refrigerante, eso se puede saber solo con superheat o subcooling con un medidor de temperatura doble o sencillo. y con eso es suficiente para saber si tienen buena carga de refrigerante !

@throttlebottle5906
2 жыл бұрын
take the evaporator coil model number and look it up, it may or may not be rated for 2.5 to 3 ton condensers. you may have to change the piston(orifice) or txv on indoor coil also. just swapping a compressor only is a no-no, although it "may" work, if you modify more of the system. but that is engineering level work and not recommended at all.

Infrared thermometer readings on Copper will not be accurate. I don't think pointing it on the fins of the coil when you shoot it would be accurate, either, as there is heat dissipation.

MICRO CHANNEL condensers or Microchannel Evaporators ? since they are becoming the new main stream. I have not researched where exactly other than guessing to correctly take the temperature in a multi channel multipass microchannel condenser or evaporator ?
