Being honest, am not a techi so can't comment about what kind of fule... But really hope to be there someday soon to see these beautiful yachts for myself... You guys are all amazing...

A Feadship sports boat sounds like an excellent idea. It might even pave the way for Feadship to make some slightly smaller boats that I can afford.

Hi mister Fisher, we actually have built slightly smaller Feadships the last few years. Check out recent 49,65 mtr project 706, 58 mtr Najiba, 34,65 mtr Letani etc.

I have a question for Feadship, what is the maximum length you could go for given your facilities’ capacity? I’m talking about building a serious, all-out explorer yacht, so bearing in mind not only the length but the beam as well.

The limit is the amount of manhours going in, over a reasonable amount of time. Also, proper seakeeping and behaviour. For argument's sake, let us say 120 metres long and 16 wide.

henkdrie Thanks for the answer, but not really what I’m asking about. Every shipyard has a range (length & beam) that can be built within its facilities. Amels for example has a range from 55-80 meters. Lurssen for ultra long yachts (upto 180 meters such as Azzam). Feadship usually occupies the space of 50-80 meters but then they did create up to 110 meters yachts. I read a while ago that they established a big facility for ultra long yachts, but I wanted to know the maximum length x width their facilities are comfortable with.

kolokolok 2016 thank you for specifying the question. Our facilities in Makkum and Amsterdam have the ability to build upto 160 mtr with a beam of upto 25 mtr if necessary!

Proud to see your devotion and commitment to be an electric propulsion leader. Keep up the good work. PS: Used to live on the Oostenderweg years ago. Mom still lives there.

How does one commision a yacht with you guys ? Can a serious committed individual just casually walk in during a boat show and meet Henk de Vries and start the process or do people who already know the yard have to make introductions, etc

Electric drive. Variable generators and battery bank in the bow or keel with give the yacht an ecological profile, more room below decks, increased fuel economy and the ability for silent running on battery storage. Great video thanks.

Could a supercavitation system be integrated to make the ship even faster and more efficiënt?
@henkdrie

Ideally, we like to build boats that are efficient. Taking into account electric drive, light weight and sleek hull forms are the best (and the prettiest); supercavitation could be interesting.. any shipbuilding students looking for a nice thesis?

As to your question, I believe I have an invention, or rather one main invention as well as a a few inventions supporting the main one which could help you with fuel economy and speed, much faster boats at a fraction of the energy costs. I think even so much so we could build an all electric boat which has a range and cruise speed comparable to a boat with diesel or diesel electric system. The system would work with all types of displacement yet be most efficient with full displacement. If you sign an NDA I would love to discuss it with you.

No reply from Feadship¿? That's not very polite or adventurous. They could potentially be missing out on something useful and valuable for their business ... ...... ......... 369

I think the focused now must be aimed at the future, so starting today we need to focus 100% on zero emission/fossil fuel free yachts, i believe fusion power is the most clean and in the future the most safe energy.

If you go the PC route, then you open a can of worms not just about fuel but also capitalism. You can never make the PC police happy because goal posts will keep shifting. Do it for the right reasons: technological innovation and cost saving. If you want to score points, make improvements on yachts trickle over the other industries. I know Feadship has been a trendsetter for yachts, including on the tech level. Some out of the box thinking: Considering we will end up with fusion power in the future, and batteries on boats are still problematic for range, maybe you can look at future proofing your diesel engines to be converted to hydrogen or find an artificial diesel replacement.

Having spent several weeks at Kaag Island over several visits many years ago, I continue to be impressed with the approach to innovation and collaboration that flows through Feadship. As mentioned by others, I also suggest a hybrid Diesel Electric / Battery system with Azipods. Kongsberg are well known for their control systems (think back to the RVL project 798) and with those controls and the ability to supplement the installed power with stored energy, you get great power for 'burst speed' AND very quiet energy for loitering about. And, a much more compact engine room....

Great design, yet 63 meters and only one inside lounge area, that certainly would not have been for me. On a yacht that size I would won't an owners deck. Yet then I suppose it could not be called a sport yacht. Good thing is, that's not my taste. I totally love your boats though, most of them anyway, yet I always wondered why you would make them so slim given the fact that an extra meter to the width of the beam contributes to the volume of the yacht to a far greater degree then an extra meter to the length of the boat. (PS. Are you using ark dimensions?)
